I remembered, that I long time ago had the intention to upload this little nice melody in a Swedish version. The biggest problem is in fact that this melody have been done by so many unexpected artists, so it was quite difficult to choose a version. It have been recorded at 78rpm with such different person as Karl Gerhard, Siw Malmkvist , Lizzy Stein and Greta Wassberg (in two versions, but I have none :( of them)
After some thinking, I choose the one with Gustav Fonandern, a rare recording on a rare small label, ABCcord with Jack Presburg and his orchestra.
Well, the reasons is that I have not presented the great cabaret singer Fonandern before and it's a good German orchestra that I've not uploaded before (more interesting for my abroad viewers) and also that the label is not usual. But no one of the versions, is very common, so I might upload some other versions later .
This session for ABCcord, in Berlin late 1932, seams to be the last commercial recording Fonandern did. The big majority of his recordings are acoustic. Gustav Fonandern (1880-1960)was born in Gävle 1880. His profession was architect, but soon he started to preform as singer. And he worked partly with both works. His first recording was done already in 1908 and there should be over 300. Together with Olle I Skratthult (real name; Hjalmar Pettersson) he toured in US from coast to coast, various times, visiting specially Swedish emigrants and some of his recordings are from the time in USA. He also preformed at broadcasting in US already 1920. He settled down in USA in mid twenties but returned to Sweden after five years and started touring in Sweden again. I don't know exactly when he retired, but he seams to have toured long time after his last recordings. Fonandern is very popular among Swedish 78rpm collectors and his records are therefore hard to find and often costly (for Swedish conditions)
Jack Presburg was one of many Jewish orchestra leader in the early thirties of Germany. In fact, so far, I don't know so much about him, but he recorded a lot and many good records, so I should indeed like to learn more . Editions by Presburg for the Swedish market seams to be limited mainly to this small label with as far as I know only eight editions, with the exception a super extremely rare Pallas disc (and I've never seen a Pallas in Sweden) . But some of his German recordings was of course accessed to buy like for example some at Orchesterola.
