This woman had to be one of the 10 most BEAUTIFUL Female Singers of All Time,. I have her: Jackie DeShannon and Olivia Newton John as the most beautiful female singers EVER!!
She was avid slot racer (for those who remember what slot racing is). I met her at an outdoor slot racing track, hot dog stand, and hobby store called The Kosher Puppy. A truly gracious woman, and great songwriter. I am still thrilled to have met her, when I was a teenager...
Her birth name was Sharon Lee Myers, in Hazel, KY on Aug. 21, 1941. She will then be 76! She was 22 in this video clip. She was one of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock 'n' roll period. She is best known as the singer of "What the World Needs Now Is Love" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart", and as the composer of "When You Walk in the Room" and "Bette Davis Eyes", which were hits for The Searchers and Kim Carnes, respectively.
On this day in 1964 {April 25th} Jackie DeShannon performed "Oh Boy" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... "Oh Boy" was track nine from her 'Breakin' It Up On The Beatles Tour' album; two other tracks from the album made the Top 100, "Needles and Pins" {at #84} and "When You Walk In The room" {at #99}... Her next charted record would be "What The World Needs Need Is Now Love", it would peak at #7 {for 2 weeks}... Ms. DeShannon, born Sharon Lee Myers, will celebrate her 76th birthday this coming August 21st {2017}...
"When do you write your songs?" "Sometimes in the daytime and sometimes in the nighttime" This could be the greatest ever answer to a stupid music-related question! Oh Jackie! How I love you with your flashlight eyes and migraine eyebrows!
I don't think this clip does her justice. I think her talent really came through when she sang "Needles and Pins" outdoors in front of a live audience. in 1963
"[The Beatles' publisher] …sent a telegram to 'please send some material over.'" I'd guess the publisher (Dick James) made that request on his own initiative, in line with the infamous "How Do You Do It" effort, not imagining that Messrs. Lennon and McCartney could be as prolific as they were. (And I'd be curious to know what songs she sent over.)
Nowadays, the men's comments on how lovely she looked would be considered sexual harassment. So crazy! I remember when compliments were welcome. I certainly enjoyed looking & feeling attractive! 😁

This is rather embarrassing. Jackie is being tarted out to perform a Buddy Holley cover when in fact she was one of the most gifted songwriters and performers ever.
She was gifted but should have left this song to Buddy... I suppose that it was okay then to compliment a woman without being charged with making warranted advances and pilloried.
It was even worse in country. On the Opry, didn't matter how good a woman singer was- the presenter would just say she was real pretty, whether she was or not.
@@stewartfenton7660 Oh God please ignore that that was my young corny self that made that comment. I apologize for that when I was younger I attended to make a bunch of corny comments like that.
