Her talent is off the charts. There are not many adults who can sing this song this majestically, let alone an 11 year old. She is the prodigy of prodigies. Fame can do horrific things to anyone as well, let alone kids. I pray she takes it in stride, because the world is at her feet.
from what they said when she was doing AGT her parents hired a voice specialist and she had Jacki set up a schedule that included just being a kid and not singing all the time like she had been. so far to date she has kept her innocence and her parents appear to be doing an awesome job of protecting her
Her parents did not hire a vocal coach. She was provided a vocal coach, Yvie Burnett, while she was on AGT and on her first album with SYCO. Yvie was hired by Simon Cowel to coach his acts on his productions. I wish people would stop trying to paint Jackie as some privileged little rich girl who paid money for her voice.
John Doe Millions of kids take voice lessons weekly or even more often, sometimes for years and years, with little to show for it. If lessons mattered much, all of those kids who took all of those lessons would all be professionals.
John Doe Lisa did hire one before Jackie went on AGT but she was terminated because she was taking Jackie's voice in the wrong direction(i.e. away from her Classical sound).
I don't know how to measure it, but Jackie transmits rare depth of meaning and FEELING! One doesn't need to understand the language in which she sings. It's so effusive that we forget about the technique: art at its highest and deepest levels. For her, it seems so unassuming, so natural to be "great" as she advises!!
You just cannot compare Jackie to any other performer, she is unique, her voice is unique and that of an Angel, look after your voice Jackie, we want you around for a long long time, truly astounding.....Then and now......Please tour the UK....
I am the nephew of Beverly Wolff Dwiggins, a mezo-soprano, and dearly loved to hear her sing, Jackie brings me to tears even more than Bev. She's absolutely angelic.
Only one singer can top 11-year-old Jackie's performance of *Nessun Dorma* on BGT - and that's what 15-year-old Jackie did with her performance of *Nessun Dorma* in Malaysia on August 14. Jackie stunned everyone - except perhaps David Foster who accompanied her on piano - by finishing the fourth "Vincero" on a _higher_ note than she did here. The young lady's voice is incredible and just becomes more so every year.
+R. Gold Thank you for this update. I was afraid Jackie's early critics may have been right in their predictions that she would lose something in her voice from her scintillatiing efforts too early on. Since I had not heard her do such a challenging aria since this performance, I was resigned to the idea that her vocal range may have peaked as an eleven year old. We would still be blessed just to have videos of her performances at that time but it is amazing to know her legacy still ascends.
+Vernon France In a recent interview, David Foster said, "Jackie is a true phenomenon. She has the musical mind of a 50-year-old." He also went on to say, "There is no stopping her, and there is no one else like her." Jackie will be giving us goosebumps for many years to come.
+Vernon France ...and here's an update: 9/27/15 - In a concert at the State Theatre in Easton, PA, Jackie sang the full version of _Nessun Dorma_ (with five-semitones-higher endnote) for the first time on American soil. The legend continues...
R. Gold Amazing. She has a concert and performance schedule that never seems to let up and I am very pleased that her talent continues apace. Thanks for the good news.
Jackie, you are the BEST...i listened to many opera singers, their voices are so jarring but listening to your voice and your singing, it's so soothing and and so heavenly
this will go down in history as one of the best ever, I'd think. for an 11 yr old. ya know I listen to her almost daily. like lots more people I bet. soooo soothing.
Rick Haynes Listening to/watching Jackie sing puts my mind in a very good place. I come away with a much more positive attitude. That's what she does to me.
When you consider that only two other women had ever attempted Puccini's masterpiece and both of them were adults in their 30s, to hear an 11 year old child top Sarah Brightman in her prime is almost inconceivable. It boggles the mind.
On her first website which has since been shut down :( there was a thread that was devoted to a waveform analysis of her voice by a professional audio engineer. I believe it was saved before the shutdown but I don't know who has it now, hopefully more than one person because it is a very detailed, professional investigation of her voice.
+Everett Cox Check out "Jackie Central" a website that is a compedium of Jackie fan sites and fan projects. Under the category of Fan Projects you'll see an entry devoted to Jackie's waveform analysis. Fascinating stuff.
Attention, attention - all music composers: If you want to turn your song, however it is written, into a musical masterpiece, just request Jackie to sing it.
US - ( little bit jealous on you ) - but -you can be so PROUD TO HAVE JACKIE EVANCHO and me is a European who has been seen every opera since my child hood..... never heard such a TOTALLY ENJOYABLE VOICE in the opera world.....! and only 11 years .....
Yes, it is the kind of performance that all by itself can make a career. In fact whe Pol Potts performed this on BGT, it did make his whole career, but Jackie did it better than he did. Except in Jackies case, she has about 50 other performances, over 10 yrs, that are just as unforgettable as this one was.
She's the real deal with the voice and emotions to go with it. If you watch her facial expressions she truly feels the music and has that emotional connection to the song. Simply excellent
Robert Dorff Jackie has said that when she hears a playback of herself singing, she really cannot detect anything extraordinary about her voice. However, when she is singing, she personally feels very comfortable and happy. I suppose she, and we, can consider it fortunate that Jackie herself does not succumb to the emotions that she communicates to her audience. Otherwise, she'd never make it through a full concert LOL. :)
Robert Dorff Jackie loves her songs but she is ever the professional when she sings them. Emotion comes from when you have personally experienced the heart ache of life and Jackie is too young to have that experience. I hope she never does.
I love reading the comments even seven years after her performance on BGT she is still blowing the world away with her magnificent talent. I have her Dream with me DVD but I hope you tube last until I pass away because I have to hear her at least two times a week.
I know she prefers more modern songs to opera, and I think she should sing whatever she wants - because she is vocally able to do so - and I'm really happy that she's going to high school and then to university, but sometimes I'm a little sad she's not training for professional opera because she would've been fantastic if she did, but my main point is, she's amazing, and I'm glad that she's found fame, recognition and a chance at a regular life to pursue any interest or career that she wants. A girl with a voice like that deserves the best in life.
+agenttheater5 Normally, I disagree with opera fans because some come across as being snobs and dissing anything that's not of the opera genre but I do agree with you. I have wondered the same thing myself. What if and who knows. I've listened to quite a bit of opera singers BECAUSE there are some wonderful singers out there. And I believe that Jackie would bring a new and exciting voice to the opera arena. She would have that beautiful, bell-like and unique voice. I only fear that if she were to try opera, someone would train her to have that cookie-cutter opera style and sound, negating her uniqueness.
+agenttheater5 I would have never paid any attention to this genre of music or anything opera until Jackie. Since JE, I have gained an appreciation for opera and the music and learned a little bit about voice from all the experts that make ad nauseam comments on JE's techniques or deficiencies Booo!!! I believe JE stated that early on she tried two different vocal coaches and someone in her camp felt that they were changing her voice in ways that were not positive. So my question to the opera experts do opera singers sacrifice beauty for power because they train for singing without amplification. Would the general public like opera more if the voices sounded more like Jackie than the strong vibrato most people associate with opera.
+qwerty123 ! Thats a good point. For all the beauty and skill in real opera, I would actually rather listen to Jackie. On voice coaches, Jackie said she had a few, but she listened to them for voice preservation techniques, and to fix some bad habits, but she and her mother were also careful to not let them train out what made her voice unique, and I am glad they did not. She also stated that she did not get into Broadway for the same reason, the directors wanted to change her voice. Her voice has much of the depth of opera, but it also has a mellow and bell like quality that sounds much more beautiful to me.
I agree with everything you said. They want to take something perfect and rare and remake it into something they can use. I rather listen to Jackie than any singer who ever headlined at the Metropolitan Opera.
Every so often I come back to listen and marvel at this performance. Truly I think its a virtuoso performance. She reaches that high note just effortlessly. It's wonderful to see and hear her. And long may she go on.
Honestly for me this was her best performance, nothing that she's done recently has managed to pass it. I feel like I'm being transported listening to it - heavenly, pure magic.
Yes, jackie Evancho brought us the best of life, dignity, hope and faith; Gifted and blessed children own a deep and natural awareness about light and love. Years after years, what Jackie gave us from ten to twelve, still remain in our heart, as an angel coming in our lives . She deserves to be well known despite of the passing time, listened and teached beyond borders. What a clever and sensitive rendition, much more beneficent and honest than most of professional adults singing. Especialy here, Jackie Evancho owns the treasure of music in her soul. She came from heaven. Christian; from France.
As much as she's improved since this performance i still think this is the most remarkable point in her career. now shes grown into her voice so to speak, but the sound she produced as an 11 year old was out of this world. I hope she does a performance of nessun dorma as an adult that will top this one.
Beekyskeep Agreed. This is I believe the best, most powerful rendition of Nessun Dorma she has ever done. I can't remember which interview it was where Jackie said when she tried to sing certain songs which she didn't go into detail, hurt her throat, and I believe this may have been one of them. I hope your wish comes true and as an adult she someday can top this performance!
Beekyskeep You may be getting your wish granted! There are rumors circulating on the JE blogs and chat rooms that Jackie may be performing ND at some of her upcoming concerts on her Awakening tour!
Beekyskeep Your wish finally came true on 4/23/2015 @ Shippensburg, PA concert when Jackie finally pulled Nessun Dorma out of the closet, dusted it off and killed it!
Jackie is now singing _Nessun Dorma_ on a regular basis at her concerts because, she says, "I like singing it and you [her fans] like hearing me sing it." She now ends the song on a higher note, see the video of her performance at the Festa Italiana in Milwaukee. She really nails it and the quality of the video is very good. I recommend it!
Best version by any female. What control she has when hitting those last three notes. She hit them perfectly with no ease and was pleasant to listen to unlike some others. Unbelievable talent.
I was never into Classical Music before I discovered this Outstanding Singer!! Now I'm hooked & can't get enough of her Sublime Voice!! Truly OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!
She is the voice of an Angel. Oficialy, she is ranked type 1, singer. Music and sound specialist have studied her voice, and compared her with other Pop, folk, and Opera singers. And Jackie, have one of the most purest sounds, ever been recorded. Some others call her the young Maestra Virtuosa. Bless you Jackie.
"Maestra Virtuosa" what a great honorific for Jackie!!! I am sure the Maestro Virtuoso himself, Luciano Pavarotti, would totally agree. It's just a terrible twist of fate he could not have lived just five more years to hear this incredible little girl honor him with this, her greatest performance. :( :(
Is it possible that she's already world-class at age 11 (when this was filmed)? Very few professional, mature sopranos even have Nessun Dorma in their repertoires. I've listened to the very few that do on paid streaming services with gargantuan catalogs, and none of the pros have done this better than she did here in 2011 (IMHO). What's not mere opinion is that none of the divas can hold those three apex notes near the end longer than this little girl could.
Even in her prime, Sarah Brightman, the Queen of Classical Crossover, never sang it this well(IMHO). Yes I wonder if Anna Netrebko, Renee Fleming and the other top sopranos felt a little smaller when they heard this magnificent performance, knowing they can't come near to it. Sarah has passed the CC torch to Jackie but the question is will she light it and run with it? Her last album(all movie tunes)gave no indication which direction she will go in. Her fans hope she will stay in Classical Crossover. Her next album, due out late this year, will tell the tale.
Very difficult to say which version is better, if the one of AGT or BGT, the truth is that both presentations are of another universe! and of a incalculable beauty...
No wonder she shocked the world with her early auditions and subsequent performances. Truly outstanding. If you get the opportunity view her concert at the Ringling Museum of Art produced and directed by David Foster - it was a PBS special done back in 2011 - I was fortunate enough to record it but I am sure it's available on DVD. Again truly outstanding.
Yes, _Dream With Me in Concert_ is a motherlode of musical treasures, it's a must-have DVD for Jackie fans as well as anyone who appreciates the best in music. Jackie is the star, of course, but she is ably assisted by David Foster, Conrad Tao (another young prodigy, on piano and violin), both adult and child choruses (in different performances), an orchestra and the sumptuous surroundings of the Ringling Museum. Also, some behind-the-scenes stuff with Jackie and David.
I have a copy of this and it is absolutely ASTOUNDING, the notes Jackie hits n 'Lovers' never ceases to amaze me and the arrangement is out of this world....Nor have I ever heard such a truly beautiful rendition of 'The Lord's Prayer' and the 'Somewhere' duet with Streisand is fabulous..... I so wish she would tour the UK....This is one of my favourite JE concerts that I watch often. Voice of an Angel then and now, such talent.....Pure and simply beautiful. Thank you Jackie xx
Paula, check out Jackie's performance of The Lords Prayer from the Milwaukee Concert this year. As great as she was on the Dream With Me CD.................This is just unreal.
My most treasured DVD, Jackie at that age was just incredible. It is difficult to imagine that she could improve on that but she has and does constantly. Amazing girl.
esta versión de Nessun Dorma puede competir con cualquier version adulta de par en par y eso Ya es decir mucho, y si tomamos en cuenta que solo tenia 11 años, eso la pone en un nivel extratosferico, mas alla de un simple prodigio,casi... ¡divino!
Every time I watch this girl sing the classics, I cry. Someone once said it's because soul recognises soul, and longs for its own beauty to shine alike. Bless you Jackie, for awakening our souls the way you do!
+James Van Patten Jr well it's not jesus it is god of jesus and god of the worlds allah he is the one and the only god the creater the mercyfull with all my love to jesus peace be upon him but his just a prophet and messenger like mohamed and abraham and moses and yusuf and issac and all the messengers of god allah peace be upon them all jesus is a prophet a man like me and you and all his miracles and the miracles of the others prophets of god were done with the permission of god allah the one and thank to god allah alhamdo lillah
I love the look of bliss and triumph on Jackie's face after successfully rendering such a difficult piece and then absorbing the acclaim of the crowd. How can one not rejoice at the happiness displayed by this child who gives her all? I also think it's cool the way she responds to the question: "I think these acts - (looks right at the camera) - which are AMAZING..."
Having watched/listened to Jackie Evancho sing 'Nessun Dorma' (this video) more than 100 + times, it is impossible not to be brought to tears!! This is the most magnificent and beautiful performance I have ever heard. Totally astonishing, totally amazing. Such a beautiful voice!!!!!!!!! Pavarotti would be so proud! Incredible, absolutely stunning!!!
She's left the stage, her singing done. But for those who heard her sing, it's just begun. Throughout the day you'll hear her singing. From places deep within her voice will keep ringing. You cannot escape, you cannot run away. She's gotten to you, you might as well stay.
I do not know what really what will happen to jackie in the future, just the way things are, but the "little girl Jackie", she's already immortal! ...whatever happens
She is a pleasure to listen to and she is a beautiful child. Not only can you understand her words but her tone and pitch are great. Thank you for such joy.
Most of her fans have this fear. You can rest easy I think. She wanted (and got) a dirt bikr for her 13th birthday. It goes well with her bow and arrows! LOL!!
I know that she is older now, but from the beginning a single thing has been apparent. An ordinary girl enters the stage. She then seems to move aside and allows the music to use her as a conduit. The sound, the presence, the complete raison d'etre of the piece finds a path to us. As the music completes its message it moves away and an ordinary, sweet girl resumes her place. It has nothing to do with God and/or Angels. It is about two entities, that exist for a purpose, coming together at the exact moment they choose to express themselves: each and every time.
Jackie has said, "I'm a normal girl, but I have an extra layer of normal." I think that *extra layer* is the second entity that you have described so well.
I agree. That is the truly amazing thing about her; she can make anyone with ears feel the emotion, even though we can't understand a single word she sings. Jackie makes people enjoy opera (or classical crossover, whichever you prefer). I know I normally can't stand opera, just those people that use too much voice vibrato and do funny things with their hands. I love listening to Jackie though, because of her presence and the sweetness of her voice.
Jackie Evancho is called a prodigy because almost all of the complex dynamics that produces a supreme performance comes naturally to her. No other singer can do what she does. She advises and I concur that her fans listen very closely to what she does to get the most out of it. I believe this was the first time Simon Cowell of SYCO music heard her. Jackie was the first American to sign with the SYCO label. Do not use small media players to listen to audio. I feel the best sounding speakers for use with PCs are the Bose Companion 2. No secondary bass support is needed. Always adjust the sound card/program to produce accurate sound. Buy her stuff.
***** There is no card (AP) dedicated for any speaker. Computers use a built in audio program and/or a more complex sound card that has DSP, equalizer etc.. People over time can develop strange taste when playing music. Sound cards permit enough adjustments to screw the sound up real bad or provide realistic high quality sound. The objective is to adjust the AP(card) so that REALISTIC sound is attained across the entire frequency spectrum. Once set up, use it for a couple of weeks and then experiment to see if it can be improved upon.
I saw a pair of speakers on a Wealth Channel show that stand 10' tall...or they looked that tall. I think the narrator said they were $25,000 apiece. I can't remember who built them but the materials used were the best(as you might expect from their price). I had never seen that many speakers on one tower before.
Everett Cox You can't judge the quality of sound from a speaker by its price. My preferred speaker design are bass reflex 3 way using crossover systems. I don't like the ganging (many speakers) of speakers or towers. For attaining a foundation for judging great sound, use a very good headphone. I recommend the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. Just like with open speakers, the sound signal source needs to be set up for optimum (realistic) results. The Bose I mentioned is the least expensive and best sounding of the three they have on the market for PCs. They can make good reference speakers.
Actually Bianca Ryan, the 11yo winner of AGT season 1 released her 1st Album under the Syco label in 2006 though it only sold about 105K copies. She made a 2nd that didn't even chart. There has only been 1 successful singer from AGT and that is Jackie.
I doubt very seriously if this was the first time Cowell had heard her. AGT was a year before this performance. I'm sure he was told about Jackie when she was on the show and tuned in. You can count on Piers Morgan being on the phone to Cowell right after she sang OMBC.
To all those who come to Jackie's video and claimed that Amira is either equal to or better than Jackie Evancho and hoped that by do so, they increase Amira's status and popularity, they are day dreaming. It will only show that Jackie is a world class musician already and Amira is only a budding amateur. Marketing theory 101 - you never tried to market an inferior product at a place where a superior product is sold. You do the reverse. Find a singer who sung worse than Amira and market her there, you will find better result.
I agree, NSL, and their actions are simply a cry of desperation that goes unheard by Miss Evancho's fans. They are truly wasting their words here. Maybe they should try the same technique on a Justin Bieber video.
holywells Thank you. You always supported me. It is an honor to get supports from a audio professionals like yourself. I am just a normal music consumer with no special training/talent in music. However, we both know what is good music and what is mediocre. We both would not make any statement without evidence to support it. As for Justin Bieber, (I do not like his music) I think he is too good for Amira to challenge.
Berserker Well, "honestly", what "real (?) world" do you happen to reside in?? Perhaps a little simple research will bring you up to speed regarding Miss Evancho's ongoing career. Unless, of course, you are not interested by what happens in the "real world".
holywells I know it's a big ask, but if you can manage to tear yourself away from Jackie Evancho's YT pages at some point in you life, then you too can discover the "real world" in which we all live.
The best voice of ALL times. She has touched my soul. Can't wait to see her in Scottsdale! Her voice brings tears my eyes every time I hear her. She is an angel!
