Here's Jackie Wilson (my grandfather) and Shirley Ellis (of The Name Game and The Nitty Gritty fame) singing a rockin' duet together "Gonna Mess Up A Good Thing (Don't Cha Be No Fool)." Included in this video is Dick and Dee Dee singing "Be My Baby."
This is a rare footage of Jackie performing with a woman. Jackie is very playful with her, charming, charismatic, playing up to her, proving he could have chemistry with a partner.

Jackie Wilson makes me swoon. He was the whole package - phenomenal voice, perfect style, best dance moves of any entertainer, great interaction with the audience and with whomever he shared the stage, as stylish as they come, electric personality, and oh, oh, oh ..... that man was the sexiest ever.

Jackie stole this performance. He was charismatic, fun, and sang beautifully.

And......he was rather athletic! He had been a boxer. That is where a lot of his "moves" came from
@paulasuniverse5029

@@debraweaver6308 I wondered about that. His Shindig performance of “Work Out” really shows those boxer moves. 🥊

First time seeing Jackie in a duet. I love his music and his showmanship. He had class and style. I saw him once in person in a small off broadway club in San Francisco. Jackie Wilson was the Greatest!!

He was an electrifying, masterful performer, who embodied the highest standards of old-time showmanship, which preceded him by decades, and he was one of the greatest. There will never, ever be another Jackie Wilson.

James Brown once remarked that he 'wished' he could sing like Jackie Wilson. The problem 'is'...James Brown was a 'screamer'...not a SINGER. I believe EVERYBODY has "secret fantasies". I wonder what ELVIS' secret fantasies were.
@leegarykushner1814
@leegarykushner1814 8 лет назад
That is not true, in his early career, anyway, as Brown was a blues balladeer, with things like Try Me, Please, Please, Please and It's A Man's World

Lets be honest, whoever they put on that stage with your Grand father was going to struggle !!! The most awesome talent who i saw live once myself. Seen some great artists over the yeas but Jackie is the best. Can't think of a modern artist fit to shine Mr Excitements shoes let alone compare to him KTF

I never saw this before. This is absolutely fantastic! Thanks for uploading it. You should be very proud that Jackie Wilson was your grandfather. He definitely was "Mr. Excitement.: He was always one of my favorites and his music is still relevant today. I rememeber when he performed, "Baby, Work Out" on Shindig or maybe it was Hullabalo. "Mr. Excitement" (Jackie Wilson) ended up essentially a "vegetable" in a hospital ward. I remember seeing a lamp 'tip over' and 'hit him' in the head as he lay (helplessly) in that hospital bed. Very sad 'ending' for such a 'dynamic' performer.

Dick and DeDe were great. This is a quartet and not a competition. Jackie Wilson's greatness does not detract from Dick and DeDe other than people hating on them because they were White. Enjoy something integrated at a time of desegregation struggle

I have been trying to get "Sing (And Tell The Blues So Long)" for years. I have it on a 45 (Coral 72453) but would like a scratch-free version that I can transfer to MP3. Most of his records were on Brunswick. My 45 has a "B" side with Linda Hopkins singing "I Found Love", where he is credited as 'Jack' Wilson. Does anyone have "Sing (And Tell The Blues So Long)" that they can upload?

@jackanthony976
@jackanthony976 7 лет назад
I have always liked Dick and Dee Dee. And I don't mean to disrespect Dick and Dee Dee. However, if you notice that whenever it comes time for Dee Dee to sing a line by herself there are background voices singing along with her as if she was unable to carry a line by herself. Sometimes I wonder if Dee Dee is singing at all or if it is only Dick and the Shindig backup singers. I cannot identify Dee Dee's voice at all. And I know this performance is live but it sounds as though in certain sections of the song Dick's voice is double tracked to give the song a fuller sound. One can perform "live" and still sing to a double tracking played in conjunction with one's live voice. Even on record, it sounds as though Dick has double tracked or overdubbed his own voice leaving Dee Dee as an unidentifiable entity. On the other hand, Shirley Ellis holds her own in her duet with Jackie Wilson. Shirley and Jackie each hold their own and seldom do they need background singers to fill in the sound.

JWL Man, oh man, do I agree. JWL has a great perspective on what is and isn't good music and this isn't GOOD music. I grew up with and to the music of the "real" rock and roll, I fail to understand all the stupidity expressed by those who only have hearsay knowledge of the real rock and roll.. Isn't this forum a trubute to the greatest singer of all?

Bull shit. I found Dick's falsetto interludes a great contribution to the integrated quartet. Jackie Wilson was the greatest. No need to hate on Dick and Dee. They were first class pop artists in their own right. DeDe as as cute as cute can be. The bans was also fully integrated. It was a great all around performance and not a competition
