Just saw him at the Royal Albert Hall, London, June 2017. Great to see him still up there having fun, laughing with himself and the audience, still sharp as a tack despite the loss of those several billion brain cells!
It's 2021 and I just found this cool guy a few minutes ago! Wow! He sings about things we did but didn't sing about! Wonder if he's still around? I hope so, cause now I'm his biggest fan! 🤣
@@vodkaone1053 Thanks so much! Not only for his version of this song but as you probably know, he has other songs that made me happy that you told me about him. 😏It's the last day of January, so Happy New Yea
I love the original. I love cocaine. I love this effing brilliant song. J.B. is an effing exceptional artist, and we're all better for him being here and, when it comes, having been here.
This has been on my bucket list since I was a kid, since the first time I heard cette chanson on my ol-timey yet beloved JVC turntable: I want to shake the hand of the man who wrote the greatest druggie song of all time. (I'm an ex-sinner, myself.) That's it, I just want to shake his hand, then let him get on with his day. Who's the quote in the ol-timey HS yearbook? Why, Jackson Browne, of course. Warren Zevon too.
😝 Did my 1 of my mums favorite musicians just mention "Freeway Rick" in an acoustic "rehab" version of "Cocaine"!!???!!! Lmfaoooooo....the things we didn't know nor understand when we were kids (or even now.....)
@@lowellcalavera6045lol trying to save the dammed are we? It's true thay blow is one of the best feelings AT FIRST. as the night goes on it turns into the worst. It's also awful for long term health for your heart. That's the deal you make with that devil. I do love the new meaning he has made with the song.
I think Jackson Browne and RR could've been really great friends if Jackson wouldn't have been on coke and if Ronald wouldn't have been praying to an invisible man.
This song was written by an old black preacher.. it's an old blues song.. Jackson did his cover of it on his album Running On Empty.. he adds the last 2 verses with his own lyrics.. but now anyone who covers it does Jackson Brownes version.. 😀
Uh apparently you don’t get it… The original is actually an anti drug song. Any song that espouses the fact that a guy that looked 27 and months later looks like hes 45 from doing coke is NOT promotion of the drug
but hey... no worries... know what I found out... ya know how it sorta doesn't do much after a while?... it's a catalyst... the majority of snorting the shit is ==>> all in the mind... it's make believe.. really... but if you look in your heart and mind.. I bet you already knew that 😏
there are other avenues... cannabis.. and the seeds of papaver somniferum... the dreaded opium poppy... big Pharma makes drugs that get people strung out... our Mother the Earth doesn't do that... no worries... seeds are really really good for us.. and these two .. hempseed oil and blue poppy seeds.. have all the nutrients our body require for life... and.. especially.. the neurotransmitters our body uses to bridge the gap between nerve cells... they are not optional... if we don't provide them in our daily diet... we get sick.. and die before our first century... ya know all those guys up in Tibet and the mountains of Asia?.. look 900 years old ?? they are
so... we can feed the World with 2 annual plants... they can be made into all the stuff we need to live... and... they are beautiful in the garden 😍... when you don't have to buy everything you need to live... life... and living.. are FREE
with a little effort... no worries mate... work gives us dignity... laying around telling people what to do... not so much... maybe that's been the problem all along?... I don't know... I ignore most of the horse feathers and lies.. grow my garden... and play my guitar 🎸... no worries mate... no worries at all
for me there was a few yrs of use, then the money ran out,,,,, for sure if I was a person who made a lot of money I probably would have over done it and died,,,, so it was a drug which scared me as i was just a hippy wannabe at age 14 in 1971,, so then I just did pot,,, but somehow in 1988 a friend from childhood who was back in my life was the reason I gave up on the fear,,,,,, next thing ya know it was like an eight ball every two weeks but then like I said the money ran out, so I had to gradually increase the time, to once a month then every two, etc,, until the last three times there was like 6 months in between,, and that was it,,,,,now I can say 23 yrs sober,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but like I said it was due to things like money and but more importantly the new belief that the high is not worth the depression that follows
It's a deal with the devil. We sign on that line and we know what it brings. Be glad you didn't have all the money for it, that's what kills people when they have money. I don't doubt thats exactly what I would do. It's a feeling like no other. Both high and that awful comedown
As a song yeah. I do however like the reflection, and the retrospect he can have for himself. I love blow, but yes you do feel like shit after and it starts fun and just turns into a chase of the tail. Still.. would have been honored to give him some back then 🤣
Damaged the quality of the rock'n'roll? Bullshit. Music was better when everyone was off their faces. The Beatles din't blow it out of the box until they smoked weed and took LSD.
Jackson, it's not the Federal government's job to give kids free lunches. I won't get into the economics of why that's such a bad idea, but read the Constitution and you'll see that it IS the Federal governments job to protect us. And somehow, I think tanks do that. Good song, though, but from the words you should have just said no a few more times in the 70's and 80's too.
Quit being a troll.. Jackson Browne has always been an activist against war.. he protested the Vietnam war too.. as everyone should have.. and I'm pretty sure tanks don't really protect anybody.. tanks kill people and the people inside the tanks a lot of times end up getting killed because they're sitting ducks for missiles... And they've never had to protect anyone on American soil.. the US has always used them on the other side of the world.. never needed them here except when the National Guard uses them to scare protesters and shit... Tanks are the biggest waste of money in a military..
I remember those Day's...The Loss of Friends..... Cocaine. I can never see again. I didn't understand all but there is something there I can feel it. 🏠🌄
Thank you Susan McMillan! I wish I could send you a gift card for some coffee. I saw your comment as the video loaded, and it saved me from hearing that sweet original all tore up. Sorry the guy feels bad about his song. It was a real gem on many levels. Drop me a line if you see this, it would matter to me if I could buy you a cup of jo!
@@mikeotten6797 it wasn't his song.. see dumb asses like you guys have no f ing idea what you are talking about.. he did a version of this old blues song (written by an old black preacher) he added a few lines to it and sang it on his semi live album Running On Empty... The whole album was about the hardship of touring and getting high before, during and after the gigs.. and how they nearly died because of it... It wasn't promoting the use of cocaine it was telling the dark side of it... It doesn't promote using it anymore than the other song called Cocaine does.. I'm talking about a different song that we all know by Eric Clapton...I always preferred Jackson's song though because the Running On Empty cassette was my best friend for most of my youth 😭..still is.. it is one of the greatest masterpieces of the 70s
