I was doing fine, thinking about this being the pairing that first brought Dave into the musical consciousness of so many. Playing one of the songs that really solidified Dave into our frontal lobes. Then I noticed your comment... damn. Doctor, my eyes.... So, what's the name of that quick stuttering inhalation that stops a full-blown sob from starting, anyway? ✌and ❤

@@jacksonbrowne-de2fu "Hello, Jackson," she humbly began. You observe the world very carefully. Yes, the Earth was abused by the men who learned how to forge Her beauty into power; and yet, on sites where lyrics can be found, someone now makes assumptions that you've implied all the jaded humans have destroyed the Earth. It's not especially true and not what you said, just the latest narrative. Lately I'm wondering if those power hungry ones will be confused by the magnitude of Her Fury in the final hour. . . . . .

My favorite artist of all time, he has always spoken directly to my soul. Clyde Jackson Browne is the most prophetic musician I have ever listened to. David Lindley on slide guitar and many other instruments is bonded with JB like a brother and plays with such beauty and intensity. The songs tell storys about life and lost loves that touch you so deeply that you think he was there when she left you and translated your pain with music.

Is there a better songwriter than Jackson Browne? He is unique. Lots of depth, but not overly quirky. Down to earth stuff. And is there a more versatile musician than David Lindley? Give him anything that has strings, and he can play it, even if he has never played it before. What a talent. He and Jackson make a wonderful team. I just participated in one of those Facebook challenges where you are supposed to pick 10 albums that have influenced your musical tastes. "Late For The Sky" was my #1 choice.

Some of them were dreamers And some of them were fools Who were making plans and thinking of the future With the energy of the innocent They were gathering the tools They would need to make their journey back to nature While the sand slipped through the opening And their hands reached for the golden ring With their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge In the troubled years that came before the deluge Some of them knew pleasure And some of them knew pain And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered And on the brave and crazy wings of youth They went flying around in the rain And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered And in the end they traded their tired wings For the resignation that living brings And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow For the glitter and the rouge And in a moment they were swept before the deluge Let the music keep our spirits high Let the buildings keep our children dry Let creation reveal its secrets by and by, by and by When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky Some of them were angry At the way the earth was abused By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power And they struggled to protect her from them Only to be confused By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour And when the sand was gone and the time arrived In the naked dawn only a few survived And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge Let the music keep our spirits high Let the buildings keep our children dry Let creation reveal it's secrets by and by, by and by When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky

I have always loved Jackson Browne, his first few albums are the best. Many road trips with a homemade cassette tape of Jackson made the trip great !

That's for sure..homemade..and miles and miles of his music across this country and back many times..heart open..smiles across those miles of the most prophetic Minstrel of this century..he healed so many of us with this music..and still does..blessings to humanity.. Of all the great songs Jackson Browne created this may be the best. This is a wonderful version, thanks for posting.

I agree most wholeheartedly. I rate this as one of the most lyrically perfect songs ever written. As an aside, try Sturgill Simpson-Turtles All The Way Down.

Why can't people see how close we are to JB's prophetic words today, December 2019. It is not too late, if we could only open the eyes of people so they could see the greed of these rich old men. Our grandchildren deserve better.

great performance. Lindley's guitar work is such a great counter point to Jackson Browne's music. They perform effortlessly in harmony...

David Lindley is arguably one of the most talented, original string musicians of his era.....which is a pretty expansive timeline. He is a true inspiration to any young person or student who wants to study any string instrument. Of course this group of folks are talent personified....Kevin, Mark, Mauricio , JEFF, Chavonne, Alethea......love'em all! Thanks for sharing.

BradVan2008 Thanks for sharing that. I agree with you. This particular song seems very special to me. It's like a spiritual paean to a certain time when seeking was almost like a new pilgrimage for many people. I'm 62, so I remember that time. Very deep song from the soul of Jackson Browne. I think his parents ere missionaries or something like that. .

This truly brilliant masterpiece of words and music was first released in 1974 & sadly has become our shocking world environmental reality. The perfect prediction sends a shiver down my spine every time I hear it. What a brilliant and perfect combination of words & music from Jackson Browne, so brilliantly supported by the truly exceptional and the late great David Lindley, RIP, who will be so sadly missed but never forgotten.
