When your grandmother buy you and your lil Cuzin the same polo shirt for Christmas now y’all gotta fight bc lil cuz said he was fresher and you gotta show him who was here First....... that’s the vibe I got from the whole battle
War and Thunder performs like one solid unit. Their skills will make you Bleed.... JSU is no joke!! Anything they do, they are coming for you.. My band!! Love from your #1 Kentucky fan. 💯❤️
@@tyresesmith2033 they are completely ass my nigga. Talladega don’t hold weight when it comes to drum lines. They were actually WATCHING WT when southern invited them to the botb between Jstate southern and Texas southern
Verdict: Let's address the elephant in the room: Alcorn bit off of Jackson State. That's an automatica "L" in the mind of a lot of people and I agree. However, their new style is here to stay and complaining about it won't change anything, so here is an unbiased view as if I were to have not known anything about it: The biggest difference that I notice is with execution between the two lines. Jackson state is generally crisp and clean. Alcorn State, while having made improvements over the years, is generally loud all around. I also noticed points in their cadences that seemed to lack control before the line found their way back together. The attention to detail with stick heights, balance and overall execution is evident and Jackson State has obviously fine tuned their style to be a well oiled machine. In addition, Jackson State has not only perfected their style but has reached a point of being able to create musically creative cadences that perfectly compliment that style. Alcorn State, having made the change a few years ago sounds good but is probably still working out a few of the kinks that come with that change. Great battle to both lines!
As someone who didn't grow up on lines that follow JSU's style of playing, I used to look at all lines of the Memphis style of playing the same. All of their material sounded the same. The more I hear them, the more I'm getting it. Jackson State sounded much more controlled.
@@Bbaybird21 Help me out. How would you describe Jackson State's playing style? I've always heard that it's Memphis style because that's supposedly where it originated and how most of the schools play around that area. I can't say that I've seen it prevalent any other area and a lot of the schools that use it now (Alcorn, MVSU, AAMU, A LOT of smaller colleges) didn't have that style of playing until recent years.
Being from Memphis you either went to JSU TNSU UAPB AND MAYBE ALCORN. FOR SUM REASON WE JUST LOVE TO GROOVE WHEN WE PLAY I WOULDN’T REALLY CALL IT A STYLE
Its one thing to copy uniforms of W.T but then use W.T style and sound.. Anybody wanna argue this watch alcorns drumsection post murray 2012...alcorn USE to have they own style and sound... #WARandThunder #WTOPbetaChapter
They really did! In the 90s as well. Alcorn had a unique sound. When you try and copy another schools sound because you think they hot and toss yours out the window, you open yourself up for ridicule.
I've studied percussion since 2001. That cadence at 9:06 is one I would put up against any college level drumline. Whoever made that one was thinking on a genius creative level. There are lots of musical things in there that a lot of people probably missed. It's nothing short of next level and WT executed it perfectly.
It's a good cadence for a Swac school, but I can name plenty of "Sudden Impact" Real Challenge cadence's, that will murder that in a heartbeat. So don't say, against ANY COLLEGE LEVEL DRUMLINE, cuz there's plenty of COLLEGIATE DRUMLINE that will eat that for a snack. And yes that's either HBCU's or D1 schools, or bugle corp drumlines.
Give me the cadences from said schools and how they outdo this cadences from balance, phrasing, etc. Until you do that, my take stands. There are many musical elements in that cadence that goes over the common fan's head. Sudden Impact is good. Top tier. But you SI guys are going to stop with all of this hyperbole without any type of defense for what you're saying. Explain why your material has intricacies in its writing beyind this school, use proper terminologies, something. LOL And I'm not even going to mention how Norfolk gave you boys work after the game at the gate. LOL 😆 You do know that their instructor was at Jackson State first right? LOL
@@DrumLuv23 BOY 😳!!!!!....... DON'T DO THAT. 1. BETHUNE-COOKMAN 2. NORFOLK STATE 3. NORTH CAROLINA A&T 4. FAMU 5. MV STATE (TO MAKE IT A CHALLENGE) THE FIRST 3 SCHOOLS YOU'RE NOT COMPETING WITH AT ALL, ON THEY LEVEL. FAMU WILL WAX THAT TOO- DON'T SLEEP IN THE Z💪🏾💯
@@DrumLuv23 you're replying about One good thing Norfolk done. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Cudos for that, my dude. But all Norfolk how many years they been waxed by Cookman? Now you really want to talk about this cadence you're mentioning in this video🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 It's very simple. Nothing complicated shit it. No technicality in it. A middle school band can catch in and learn that in a heartbeat. No dynamics NOWHERE IN ANY SECTION (SNARES, TENORS BASS, ETC. NO ACCENTS. EVERY STRIKE ON THE DRUM IS EXCESSIVE.... FOR WHAT? NO COLOR IN THIS - ATLEAST FROM THIS SECTION. YES WE CAN GET ON TERMINOLOGY, NOTHING DUMB ABOUT THIS KID, EVEN TALKING ABOUT PERCUSSION SECTIONS. SO YES. LET'S CONTINUE. SINCE YOU WANT TO TALK LIKE THIS BASIC CADENCE IS SO GOOD, WHICH IS NOT. NOW LET'S GO TO D1 SCHOOLS THAT WILL WAS THIS MESS : 1. DUKE UNIV 2. FSU 3. PENN STATE. 4. OHIO STATE. 5. MICHIGAN PERCUSSION SECTION WILL WAX THIS MESS IN 1 CADENCE!!!!!!!!! Now Cookman against THAT mess, You want to talk about color, go listen too "Spirit Grove" and learn dynamics and color and ACCENTS. And come back and holla at me, kid💪🏾💯💯💯💯. That's the first thing I would play against that, then kill you with ANY PERCUSSION FEATURE. CUZ ALL THAT MARCHING CADENCE MESS WON'T WORK AGAINST COOKMAN. I'M JUST SAYING, Challenges are about Technicality, PRECISION, Sequences, Dynamics, And most importantly ALL 32 RUDIMENTS ....... NOT 4!
Can someone help me out: I came in through a different style of challenging. I'm used to trading punches. So when a line keeps throwing cadences one after another like WT did in the beginning is it a sign of disrespect like, "We don't care that you're over here. We'll take your turn"?
WT is smooth and controlled, Great Value WT sounds forced and a little cluttered.....I know that whole WT line was like, " this is some twilight zone ish right here" they are looking at and hearing the anti-them 🤣🤣🤣🤣 WT for the win
THEY BOTH SUCK. Alcorn need to go back to their original style. THIS IS FAKE T.O.P. I should know because i am an ORIGINAL T.O.P. section leader(1977/1982)
I dont blame TOP for trying to line their shit up with WT. That's the only you are going to get in the conversation as one of the best. A lot of bands need to line their drum majors up with J5 to at least have a chance of being mentioned in the conversation.
Why Alcon kept playing over JSU like that lol they can’t handle that ass whoopin and why tf they got they got the same uniform as them they wanna be j state so bad🤦🏾♂️😭😂😂
ひFrank You done said a mouthful 🤦🏽♀️😂 JSU is often imitated poor tink tink! Alcorn will NEVER come close to JSU! They can take the band director, marching styles, uniforms, cadences, 5 drum majors (A5 🤣)...they can call themselves dynamite of the south Lol still won’t be on the SONIC BOOM level #theeilove
Alcorn kinda killed it at the end. I was a drum captain for Jeff davis county mississippi in high school, the baby boom of the south. And back then jackson state was untouchable. They got touched here tho.
Yeah.....no. LOL The only line that I've seen consistently give WT headaches is Prairie View. Lane's drumline made me nervous the first 11 minutes before WT ran away with it. Alcorn sounded loud and unfocused. Jackson State's sound was a gourmet pizza made by a chef. Alcorn's sound was kids who just threw the right ingredients on the dough with no type of portion.
Slawcorn could NEVER touch us! Trust Me. I'm W.T. Crab of 95.....Slawcorn Is Pooh. They even named there Percussion Section after our Saxophone Section (T.O.P. Tower of Power) SMDH
As a person that came up in H-Town, attending PV, life member of PV McFunk Box, its disturbing to hear the material of SWAC percussion sections today. This video was a prime example of material, though somewhat technical, gave no feel for an in-pocket dynamic collective presentation. The SWAC percussion sections, as a whole, have serious issues with understanding how to fit rudimentary/complex licks with established grooves that MOVE a band/crowd while captivating the EYE of the onlookers. It's all lost in everybody trying to play louder or faster than the next, while just standing there. Sad evolution of what was the absolute most exciting section of the "Show Marching Band" of the SWAC. #funkboxforever
I thought I was the only one who noticed. SWAC needs to transition to the Bongo style with the corps bass lines like Bethune, NCAT, Howard, all the east coast schools.
@@etgrider77 I feel the Bongo Bros groove, but not for SWAC sections(at least not PV's). Again technique is not the issue to me, its dynamics and pocket grooves that bobb th he heads and movement that captivates the eyes! Feel me?
I agree with you. I have notice the style and Cadence structure have changed drastically over the decades. The old ways of pocket temp and flash and showmanship. To more rudimental style. Every thing sounds the same for the most part. Both Sixers have a great Foundation which to build upon. Change what has already happened it would take great creativity combined with the rudiments and old-style Showmanship.
Lol bro it really is crazy how much they are starting to look alike 😂 uniform and everything like movements and everything. Them niggas even walked up and sat their hats down the same way😂 it’s clear somebody’s copying somebody😂😂
I don't like when college drumline sections play while the other percussion section playing i never march in a college percussion section but i march in junior high school band and high school band
Valley adopted the Memphis style, but I would say that they still remain within the boundaries of their own style. I've said it for years. One year they're going to take the entire conference by surprise.
I've seen HBCU drum lines battle face to face with PWI lines and after they dap up and show each other love. Why can't HBCU's show that love to one another? *don't shoot, its just a question*
J Hunt the real reason is both been trying to do this battle for years, football literally don’t have shit to do with band other than bands playing at the game
I think people should listen to this instead of watching it... youd be surprised. Most people give automatically give jsu the win. I think its a tie. Great job by both sections!!!
There’s no Memphis style. If you come from marching in Memphis you’re going to one of those schools expect for Alabama A&M. Majority of those lines are filled with Memphis product from the crabs to the seniors
@@jerrygowen1604 right. people comment under these videos as if they're not traditional lines.. and when you call them out - then it's "well, they're playing basic material." FOH haha
Both sections both W&T and T.O.P are trash! I read the comments about how crisp JSU was. And I’m like did y’all see the same vid I did. Because those cats were slah af! No control, no wrist, muddy sound. And Alcorn sounded and looked just like them. I don’t know what happen to my T.O.P. They have lost their way. I see my crab brother Steve is their director and all I could think is, how did this happen? We had our own groove and style and now the T.O.P are just a W&T clone! Both sections cadences were garbage, all of it. Nothing flowed, it all sounded like noise. It sounded like two middle school drum sections going at it,
Yeah I saw you Crab brother Steve too, Dont Forgot, Slawcorn been Trash Since Waaaaaay back in 95. We Waxed Dat Ass Non Stop!!! As W.T. Crab of 95, these boys from Slawcorn actually made yall sound good. We Still Waxed Dat Ass Though! It’s good to hear from old heads from that era though. I probably know you if I see you. Do you still chop?!….
