12:39 this was the best part for me bc not only did the drum majors start off strong, they finished strong too! Look at the head drum major. That’s the bar for any and every drum major if u ask me💯
Abraham's knees be touching his chest. That's how you know he marching hard. The drum MAJORS always in unison!!! Straight up in-sync all the time!! You gotta love KAYLA!!! So proud of her because her hard work is definitely paying off. SHE was a trooper last year when it was raining. Makaylah looked so bright and gorgeous while she strut walking. It almost looked like she wasn't even gettin rained on.
@@The_Oblivion_Light Look.... lol... I know it's no homo too!!! When something looks good. That's just what it is! His commitment shows how good his performance is!!!!
SHOUT OUT TO THE HEAD DRUM MAJOR FOR BEING A REAL LEADER!!!!! He didnt get flustered and if he did he didnt let it bother him. I was A Drum Major and A Drum Section Leader at one point so I knew exactly what happened when it did. However, they handled it like Champs. The Way He Got them together and called everything on The Fly was A Great example of his leadership and also how they respected him enough to do exactly what he said right in stride too. Great Job Showing Love From Detroit!!!!!
For anyone curious. The reason for the miscommunication is because of the tunnel bouncing the sound off of the walls. Therefore making it no way the drumline could hear the whistle
That front row of trombones should've signalled to the rest of the band what was going on....throw up some fingers or a fist...or have the drummers rim tap until they move out....but that damn Abraham is still on point ...a good ass leader....!!!!! As Ray Charles used to say..."You've got the Right one Baby !!!!!
Yeah,. That's true... I just said that because the trombones are the lead section....they can see since they are in the front....a fist in the air by a couple of section leaders could've helped the rest to "Get Ready"
It wasn't bad, head drum major recovered quickly. Great Job, this dude is on it. The tunnel will throw you off every time. JSU is terrific no matter what circumstance, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. Love J5 and band.
B* FRESH it was a misunderstanding with roll off bc they was in that tunnel and they cant hear them wistles 😐 wo real question (why are u bashing the head drummajor ?)
i dont think he had messed up...it was just a miss communication...but the head drum major “on the fly” count call out was pretty dope...it just shows how much responsibility he has✊🏾
@@j0j0_369 I've March that tournament 2009 and it's kind of hard to hear the whistle when the drum major blows but J5 did a very nice recovery and look good doing it! That the recorder wasn't up there the way it was no one would have known a mistake but true ban heads but they follow through beautifully
@@Deltadoll1987 Oh I agree, my initial thought was they couldn't hear in that tunnel. Hearing the band respond to that queue is one of my fave parts so that's the only thing that made me catch that minor delay. The DM's quick recovery was awesome tho. Quick on his feet.
The drumline did not hear the whistle so the count off got delayed. The head DM did not panic at all. He led like the leader he is. Dude super cool. Damn!
I just love JSU marching band. Not to mention J5, man! They are amazing and extremely handsome! Need to bring that up here to the DMV area. Oh and the dancers 😍 I can't get enough of the dancers. They are So talented and drop dead gorgeous💜. The JSU band is just amazing!! They have become one of my favorites. #SonicBoomoftheSouth
I've been following SWAC football/bands since I've been able to walk and talk. Mr. Abraham reminds me of the old school JSU drum majors from the early 80's. Serious, focused and laser sharp.
Unfortunately, the SHC game was a total wash out ⛈⚡️💦☔️☔️. Thousands...I Mean THOUSANDS of people (me included) were prohibited from entering the stands because of the rain....and btw it 11:57pm and it's still raining. Although we couldn't see JSU Sonic Boom at this point but we could certainly hear you all booming💥 through the walls...You guys sounded GREAT!!!!!!!!! 💙💙💙 JSU SONIC BOOM 💥
Thank You again KillaKev for this excellent footage....I love when people have complaints and you hit them with the accepting donations line....lollllllll
6:00 Felt bad for Kayla. It's like a repeat of last year when she had to push through during the rain with hair products and make-up dripping into her eye. They all look great tho!!!!!
My daughter is a Percussionist🥁🥁🥁 in her school band #blackgirlsrock but it is "SOMETHING" about that Brass section🎺🎺🎺🎺. The sound 🔈🔉🔊is just 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. The sound coming out of that tunnel is "Mind Blowing" 🤪🤪🤪,... Crisp, Clear, Percise OMG,.. "Amazing"! On another good note, I 👏👏👏 These AMAZING Ladies & Gentleman for "Pushing Through" the elements of Mother Nature. Rain/Sleet/Cold being a Band Mom I see these babies as strong Souls doing what they LOVE #justdoit #brassbaby #crisp&clear
That was nice, y’all worked it,,,keep stepping, and have FUN pls,,,showtime was the fun part,, I remember,, and we didn’t want to be mad faced,, relax and have fun,, when u graduate and c life later, u may c , these were the fun days,,, and u ain’t scaring any body anyway,,,😂,, so give ur audience a even better feeling, musically & visually,, food for thought,,, agape love thou,,
I was n da stands when Jackson was in there. My seat was next to the band and we got wet watching them enter the liberty bowl. Then once they got in the stands we were told to go n da tunnels due to lightning near by... then da rain would not let up and I got soaked and everyone was leaving around 8pm..I stayed until 9pm n then left...now they saying we can get our money bacc or donate it to the groups...its ur choice...
I can’t wait until I can see JSU The Sonic Boom in person instead of YouTubbing. I watch them several (no numerous😂) times everyday. In my mind I’m a Sonic Boom Alumni. #BucketList2019
What could probably be said of Jackson State alone, is that based on DM criterion as well as this band's organization and functionality, they could definitely travel without the supervision of paid staff (only security would be needed)... Therefore in my opinion, the best overall (Marching Band) in America.
+B FRESH it's the first time it rained on them in Memphis. we ain't never had a rainy problem ever. this is the very first time this had ever happened.
@@gabbyworldforlife6602 I know that...I'm talking about first two games...it's been raining....then they was up early for that parade..hell I'll b a little upset to..they been through slot Saturday.. that's all I'm saying
@@gabbyworldforlife6602 it's all good..shit I was out there it was stressful...only difference from USM game it stopped...lol...about 430 it said 30% but it was raining like 70% as night went on it got worst..ALOT people was looking forward to this game including me...I spent to much money for this to happened
Cheer up fam! It may not be a total loss! From what we're hearing their to reschedule the game on Sunday September 9th! Look for Fox 13 News whbq TV here in Memphis and read the update or put in your Facebook search bar Southern Heritage Classic 2018 and it'll pull up the story about about the reschedule
Would like more cameras employed. If all we see are close ups, we don't get the full impact of the size of the band. There are plenty of places in the stadium to position a camera to give a sense of the band's scale. Or use a mobile stand or scaffolding could be used.
honest, non-ironic question here: why do band members have to make faces while marching? is it some sort of tradition? does it allude to anything in particular?
i definitely would have if they had one when i was in college. marching bands are not really common in brazil, where i'm writing from. is there any other way i can learn more about those traditions? thanks for answering!
Rule number one. Never call of a song while percussion is in the tunnel, they will never hear you. Also your roll of whistle wasn’t even with the cadence so that the them off too. im just sayin. CRAT 4 Life
Leo Owens , hey L!! I like opinions like yours. You can tell that you are just being honest. I love this band and will support them anytime. But, some people think because you make a negative comment on something that you hear and see them do, that you are trying to bash the band. Through the good and bad I still love JSU!!
Pauline I feel you I was raised JSU. Literally all of my people went there from 94 to 05. I was a drum major in high school and we did JSU style I was trained by moreh and sweets(RIH) so believe me when I saw this I was hurt. But I love what JSU is about. I’m a CRAT 4 life but I love my craft and the universal language(music) thank you for not jumping the gun thinking I was hating
Why is the camera angle so close up in the drum major's chest in the first part of the video? Can't see anything, the DMs, the J-settes or the band. :(
@@KillaKevProd You can appear brash... Is there a way for us newbies, that are TOO OLD to join the band, yet are very curious about the seemingly long- standing traditions, and also appreciate your videos ask questions?!
