Just ordered this one. Nearly bursting with anticipation for it to arrive. There are barely any reviews of this particular guitar out there, but at this price point and it being a Jackson, I'm fairly confident it'll be a good guitar. Was considering a Harley Benton first, but at the price point and with the features it promises, it just sounds too good to be true. And when it sounds like it, it usually is. Considered an Ibanez or Schecter, but then I saw this gorgeous looking piece. Love the colour, the natural wood look, the fan fret.. I was in love instantly.
I love mine! I had to take the same risk when I got mine with like zero reviews out there as well. But I am happy to say I love this guitar just as much if not more then the day I first got it. Enjoy man! 🎸
@@CineMusician Received it yesterday. What an absolutely beautiful piece. It's my first non-knock off brand and holy hell what a difference in playing. It feels great, good sustain, nice tone. The eight strings take some getting used to, but that's to be expected and part of the appeal. Only niggle I have with this guitar is that the set-up I got it in is just bad. Like, really really bad. Huge amounts of fret buzz, to the point where the first fret on the higher strings doesn't even sound through. Like, you only get a 'clang' and that's it. So it will need a trip to the luthier on monday. But I'm sure it'll be awesome after that.
@@LJ-qh5ni I am so happy you love your guitar! I got lucky with my set up, but I also tuned up to Drop F and not Drop E or whatever it shipped with, if I dropped my tuning at the string gauge I am at now I would probably have fret buzz but running gauge 10-74 with drop F is butter
@@CineMusician Mine didn't come tuned at all, I'm afraid. :p I just tuned it standard tuning with a B and F# on the bottom strings, so I guess that shouldn't be too floppy for this guitar to handle. Do kind of feel like a dick going to this music store for the set up though, seeing as I tried my hand at eight-strings there and they were really helpful.. Then I went on to buy the guitar and spend my money elsewhere. And now I'm asking that same store for a set up. But hey, I know their luthier is really good and I'm still paying for the service.
Just checking back in after 3 years of owning this guitar. It is still my favorite to play with my ESP LTD 100QM with active EMG's as a second for more esoteric tunings or if I really want that hyperdriven sound of the active pickups. I use it with a Line 6 Helix. I think this is true for every guitar, but I do have to EQ the Jackson quite a bit. It needs removal of muddiness in the low end and a pretty significant boost in the highs. Although I've also heard that that's pretty much always the case with the Helix, this guitar needs it significantly more than the ESP. Which, again, is pretty much to be expected because of the active vs. passive pick ups. But when it is EQ'd, this guitar more than holds up for just about any (metal) genre I throw at it. I've used for recording albums with good results! The transition to an 8 string was relatively painless though! Like you mentioned, it takes some adjusting working with the sharp angle of the body and especially the sharp nut. I think I've actually dulled it down a bit from constantly hitting it with my fingers.
Had the same nut problem with my 22-7. 5 mins with a cheap nail file, quick bridge adjustment then it was purrrfect. Looking at this as my 1st 8. Thanks for the revie\m/
I remember nut stinging me when sliding to first fret, also tuning stability on this one bugged me, my Rg8 holds tuning much better, idk about yours, maybe it's just manufacturing issue
Tuning stability is alright on mine. Locking tuners might improve it but the guitar is very neck heavy so I feel like that knocks it out of tune a little
Just got this guitar in the mail a few days ago and I'm pretty disappointed with it. Doesn't sound nearly as good as the guitar in the video. Quite a bummer. I'm playing through a Marshall valvestate and was hoping that this guitar would beef up my sound. Sounds super Hollow and flat
Would have been a superb guitar, however the pickups suck... I hear extra noise and crap when you strum and play over time, only had 2 1/2 months. They're oversized pickups, 0ver 4 in. which make it hard to replace.. Trying to install Fluence pickups now. My Frankenstein event. Might have to cut and make pickups straight. I hope it comes out good. Those Fishman Fluence pickups would be killer.
@@CineMusician Installed the Fishman Fluence Open Core.. They're killer!! 9 tones (including single coil )in one pickup!!! I'm very satisfied. Use a gt1000, and my Headrush that I never plugged into my Jackson. I'm anticipating Perfection!!!
I do really wish this was 28-26.5... That 2in difference makes for a really hard angle, almost too drastic of an angle 😔 Also, what tuning do you have it in? It sounds like it holds the low stuff really well
I didnt notice any tuning issues as Some other people Said, or that Sharp nut u were talking about. But i do have Some neck issues, the string action at nut is to low and theres a small upward bend in the neck. This causes a rattle and string cut-off when bending the neck backwards. Any suggestions what to do?
Other than that your review is good . Not reall my genre but your songs are good . I just want to hear blues rock and Phish or even Grateful Dead type stuff on it
@@timothydonovan1261 i feel like it will be very hard to find a review for an 8 string guitar that goes over those genres of music instead of chuggy metal
