I'm not sure he was insulting it. It's just a long game and not the latest in the series. Although, I must say, I love the game, but I don't think it's a good stream game.

1:25:07 You know after the wonderful Drawfee episode where they try to guess what cartoon character Julia has drawn from memory, Julia having aphantasia makes sense.

I genuinely don't understand aphantasia and I think Julias totally justified in not understanding it either, like you can't physically see something in your head, there's no eyes in there, but you can visualize it by thinking about the individual properties of it and you can understand every aspect of it at the same time it just as well as if you were looking at something so then you're "seeing it" but like you aren't actually physically seeing it.. like what justifies seeing something? because no one can physically see in their head, it's all just alot of described properties regardless of whether if it's subconscious or active thought

Aphantasia's definitely a real thing! By your description I wonder if maybe you have it, and that's why it's hard to understand? It's apparently fairly common. I recently discovered both my parents have it (I don't) and we had a long conversation about our specific experiences. Obviously it's the not the same as literally seeing things with your eyes, but I can very much 'see' things when I imagine them. It's basically like I close my eyes and I can still see, I just see what I'm imagining instead. The experience is extremely similar. Whereas my parents describe 'conceptualising' things when they imagine them, like having knowledge of what it is and how it fits together, but not 'seeing' it visually. It's similar when dreaming - when I dream it's an extremely vivid, detailed visual world I walk around in, it's basically like being awake and looking through my eyes at the real world. Whereas for my parents they both described dreaming as 'conceptual' like having knowledge of doing something, or the memory of having just done something, or a series of quite vague images loosely linked together by an inner sense of continuity and an emotional storyline. Like with most things aphantasia is a spectrum, with 'hyperphantasia' being the other end (I'm probably at that end) and most people being somewhere in the middle. An easy test to see where you are on the spectrum is to try imagining a specific image (often a red star) and immediately describe what you 'see' in your 'mind's eye'. The response could be anything from "a vivid 3D image of a star in space" - to - "a simple drawing of a star shape coloured red" - to - "a hazy or inconsistent star shape which is hard to concentrate on and may not have colour" - to - "what do you mean mind's eye? I'm thinking about a star but of course I can't see it." Anyway, sorry for rambling... I just find this kind of subjective-reality thing really fascinating ^^;

@@shockofthenew I think I'm also on the hyperfantasia end. I can easily imagine things spacially, experiencing it with any sense I call on if I have a point of reference, like, I still remember when I accidentally ate sulfur, I have the taste, and the feel of the rock and a shady image of the shape and coloration of the wall, and if I call it into my mind, I can turn left and right as if it was a video game, and walk along the wooden platforms that make up the pathway one has to walk on when traversing the park. I can see, and feel, and navigate all of that in my head. I can also alter what I see, though that's a bit of a weirder skill, so that I perceive something in my vicinity that is not in fact there. I should add, this is not like a hallucination, I can clearly tell which is a product of my imagination and which is a product of itself caught in my sights. It's just that both layers act as equally physical realities. And when I close my eyes it often starts playing random pictures that I have never seen, like some entertaining movie made by our brain for me. Admittedly, that one's probably more to do with my insomnia. The star is in orbit of the moon, I can see the white radiant surface right behind the tiny sun that is made of flesh for some reason and actively writhing, convulsing like a spasming beating heart. It's oddly serene, though it sounds terrifying. In the distance is another star though it only exists as a light point in the corner of my eye that causes a high-pitched sound when looking at its blinding light, the very act of perceiving it overwhelming my conscious. Another thing I wanna add is that I was very confused by the idea of visualisation relying on defining its individual properties. It was a struggle to write that description. I just went "red star - what do you see? *image pops up* okay cool. how the fuck do I describe that? it's... meaty. huh. didn't notice at first glance, but that is its texture. alright, what word do I want to use to describe how it's behaving? is it even a star anymore? Imma just accept that it is, if it's what my mind made of star"

@@sourwitch2340 I know it's been a year, but I only just saw this and... wow! That sounds so fascinating, and exciting! I don't think I have _total_ aphantasia, as I can recall images I know really well (like the apartment I grew up in, my grandparents' house) decently enough to give a rough description, and I can vaguely conjure up basics (shapes, an apple, stuff like that), but the idea of having such visceral imagery sounds... really beautiful? I'm sure I'd get completely lost in thought and inner worlds, so maybe it's for the best that I have very little mind's eye, but I'll be damned if I wouldn't love to experience it for a day! And you did a lovely job transcribing them!
@funguscreature6833

i have total, complete aphantasia. when i close my eyes all i can see are the backs of my eyelids. i cannot visualise ANYTHING, and i dont dream in images either. i also dont have an internal monologue and i cant hear things in my head (i have songs stuck in my head nearly 100% of the time, i just cant... hear them? still dont understand how that one works.) i know what objects ive seen look like and i can use my knowledge of the world to synthesise a new thing but i just cant see it. im also a wee bit faceblind but i dont know if thats correlated.
