Keep dreaming. We all wish that, but statistically its almost impossible in modern baseball. When you have an ERA that low it means you cant give up even 1 run or it skyrockets. If he were to finish with a below 1 era it would be the greatest sports accomplishment of this century

@@brettcarlson5450 if he goes on a 10 win streak without allowing a run his ERA would be around .20. that means if he allowed a run it would only jump to 0.36. that gives him some leeway to work with. the most amazing thing to me is every other pitcher is struggling since they banned substances. DeGrom is still going strong.

I don't know what the current numbers are following last night's game, but going into that start they had the numbers ran on Jake. With 21 starts to go, Jake could give up 19 earned runs. Assuming he goes a minimum of 6.1 innings per game for the rest of the season, he'll still finish off with a 1.08 ERA which will most likely get him the NL Cy Young and make that mark the new record for a pitcher that won the Cy Young that season (Bob Gibson won it in 1968 with a 1.12 ERA Now, that's for surpassing Gibson. I don't have the numbers for an ERA under 1, but I would have to assume that on 19 starts (he might potentially miss one following last night) with a minimum of 6 innings pitched per game, we're looking at perhaps a max of 15 or 16 that he can still give up. Statistically, it's improbable, especially considering that every pitcher seems to have that one game that's a total off day for them at some point in a season. Let's say deGrom gets shelled at some point and gives up five runs in 3.2 innings and doesn't even make it into the 4th. It would still be possible, but Jake would really have to start going the distances and hitting the 7th or 8th inning in games for the rest of the season after that, something that you just don't see often in today's game. With all that being said, I know I wouldn't bet against deGrom.

DeGrom is on another level, but I still believe Koufax had the best 6-7 year peak of any pitcher, ever. For those 6-7 years, Koufax almost literally led the NL in every single pitching statistic available.

He was damn good when he came into the league and has just gotten better with age. You see a few special players each generation, and if he continues he will be that player for the current generation.
