Man 8 ks in 3 perfect innings AND another rbi and he's batting over .400 that's absolutely insane. And to have more rbis than runs allowed at this point in the season is unbelievable. Please let this man stay healthy, with the way he was on today he really could've pitched a perfect game smh
This is the most impressive run of pitching i've seen in my lifetime since Pedro Martinez 2000 CYA season. 18-6, 1.74 ERA, 0.737 WHIP, 284 K, 217 IP, 7 CG, 4 SHO.
Not for very long, though. Through 8 innings they had 1 run on 1 hit (Rizzo HR), with 15 strikeouts after Trevor May struck out the side in the 8th. They did add two hits in the 9th, including a two-run home run, to create a little drama before Edwin Diaz came in and ended it (with help from Mason Williams).
6 RBIs...vs 4 ERs.... 11 hits from the plate vs 26 surrendered on the mound. Batting .423... This level of domination doesn't happen too often in sports. I hope he's alright. The mans a true competitor. To go out on a limb here, before you mention it...Yes. I know Ohtani is a beast. A monster. Very talented. Of course 47 RBIs and 15 ERs for Ohtani is amazing. No doubt about it. We are talking about doing it AS a pitcher. Is Ohtani a pitcher? Absolutely. He is also an outfielder occasionally, and more often than not he is a DH. As a PITCHER thisbyear, Ohtani has 4 RBIs while giving up 15 ERs...That's still an a amazing stat in itself. Nothing but respect for the man. He has 317 games so far in his career and 21 of those games he has pitched in. If you really want to compare his runs produced vs runs surrendered as a pitcher. Wouldn't it make sense to only look at games pitched in and was eligible to give up a run? Not shade, just logic. Anyway, rest up deGrom. As a Mets fan AND a baseball fan your career is worth much more than forcing a couple starts. LFGM!
deGrom is legitimately unbelievable. He has a genuine chance of being an mvp. Not only is he the best pitcher in baseball, but he’s also one of the best hitting pitchers in the MLB. He is just incredible to watch
As a hitter, nowhere close to what the big guns are achieving. As a pitcher Cy young for sure. His AB's are very less and I don't think he has homered yet so there are multiple things to look at. But the man is so exemplary at pitching that his runs given has balanced out which is crazy 😂
Great Jake Facts: Lowest ERA of any pitcher since the start of 2018: 1.94 Lowest WHIP of any pitcher over any 10 game span in MLB history (0.54) More runs driven in than ER allowed (6/4)
Bro he went around the order once, I doubt he would’ve struck out 6 batters 3x each. I agree he was on pace to break his own record but we’ll never know..
He had been operating under a tight pitch count his last few starts after the pain in his side. "Pace" can also be difficult to maintain. Some power hitters will go on a surge where they'd be on pace for 99+ HR. But nobody ever reaches a 100. If deGrom hadn't left with the injury, he'd have certainly left if the Mets were leading by 4-6 runs (5-1, 6-1 or 5-0, 6-0). So at most he'd have stuck around for six or seven innings.
People should stop comparing deGrom and Ohtani. Ohtani as a pitcher is still not in the league of deGrom as a pitcher. deGrom as a batter is nowhere close to Ohtani as a batter. On the other hand Ohtani is an elite pitcher/batter which is why he will win MVP if this continues but Cy young will go to deGrom because no one is close to what this man has achieved. I'm a huge Ohtani fan who puts himself through torture watching every game the angels blow only to see that 30s of an Ohtani home run.
I think if he continues on through the entire game he would have broken or tied the single game strike out of record of 20. He already had a good start with 8 of 9 matching Kerry woods start when he had 20 strike outs in a game.
@@fries5849 yeah he was locked in on a different level. I agree this was gonna be a special game for him. I hope he can get this arm issues figured out.
His pitch count was a little high but this game could’ve broke some records if he pitched all 9 innings. He could’ve easily broken the strikeout record or even thrown a no no.
Someone tell Rojas to let him go take a vacation for a couple weeks. We need that arm. We’d probably be okay if he wasn’t around for say the next 3-4 starts
"Damn! This game is over." - Cubcakes early in the game "YES! We have a chance!" - Cubcakes after the 3rd inning "Oh, right. The Mets are still better than us, even without Jake" - Cubcakes after 6 innings
Degrom needs to skip a start rest up skip the all star break so he could save that shoulder n push the Mets to the playoffs bc he just that great n hate to see him in the IL every 2 or 3 starts he's a beast n the Mets need him atleast at 75percent bc even like that he still better then most pitchers I'm the game and this is coming from a yankee fan
Mets please shut De Grom down now before his arm becomes De Gone. It’s very clear that there is something wrong with him, his pitching style is causing issues with his arm. You don’t come off a right flexor injury and then say ow my shoulder hurts, and brush it off like it’s nothing Please don’t destroy a potentially amazing and long career because you are desperate for your first playoff run in 7 years. Shut De Grom down now before his arm becomes De Gone.
So it’s called dominating and gets its own video yet he goes only three innings. So it’s called historic but he hasn’t thrown enough innings to qualify among ERA leaders and is injured yet again. It’s cool he can throw over 100 and it is cool he gets strikeouts but if he can’t throw innings it baffles me how we gush over him. FanDuel Sportsbook has him installed as the favorite for NL MVP when he doesn’t gl even have enough innings to qualify for ERA lead. Something is seriously wrong with this and am I the only one seeing it.
People say he’s gonna win mvp but he’s way too injury prone he gets injured every game he’s still an amazing player and still the most dominant pitcher in the league
Maybe deGrom should start throwing slower to see if it is less injurious to his arm or any body part. Toning it down to 97 98 shouldn't affect his slider and change up at least
Mets trying to be Mets again by mishandling jacob. Hes been hurt 3 times already this year. So allowing him to pitch. Sit him down Sandy let him get to 100% before you get him seriously hurt again
DeGrom was probably using the sunscreen and Rosen like Glasnow and has to grip the ball tighter and now his arm can’t stay healthy. I don’t completely disagree with the new MLB rule but they should’ve at least waited until after the season ended to make such a huge change. Too many pitchers are getting injured now.
no deGrom doesn't use anything. It's easy to tell by looking at spin rates before and after the rule change. Even though primary purpose of the substances are to grip the ball better, all sticky substances increase spin rate somewhat but DeGrom is essentially the same. You can confirm by looking at data from Baseball Savant.
@@mahinshahrier7022 I know his spin rate has been nearly identical and I’m throwing him a bone because I think he was injured before the change but I find it weird that he gets injured twice after the rule change. Even if he was just using something on his fingertips (which I did when I pitched) just to get a grip on the ball something must have gave. It could be a coincidence but with all the pitchers going down it’s not a far fetched thought.
deGrom doesn't use anything, stop with this nonsense. His rpm numbers are nothing to write home about. Its his delivery and overall mechanics that make him great.
@@grant9872 Sheesh being that 95% of major league pitchers used some type of substance there is a stat that suggests that he may have. I’m sorry to introduce you to that reality but dude has gotten injured twice since the rule, albeit while still dominating.
