Jacob Rees-Mogg discusses slavery and reparations with Professor Robert Tombs, Founding Editor of History Reclaimed.
Questions:
02:00 - Do our efforts to end the slave trade compensate for the profits we made from it?
02:57 - Doesn't Pitt The Younger have a slightly mixed record on this?
04:11 - Do descendants of slave owners owe any duty of reparation?
05:45 - Is dragging the monarchy into this just before the coronation an opportunistic political move?

Why should I, who have never owned a slave, pay reparations to someone who has never been a slave?

And let;'s not forget about Black American slave owners and how some of the sub sahara desert tribes where already selling slaves to the Arabs long before the West got involved. If only schools were able to teach what really went on young black kids would understand that they are not victims as all other cultures have used slavery all around the world.

Mr Rees-Mogg being a practising Catholic ought to know that pride is a mortal sin. So being proud of Britain's spending many resources on abolishing the slave trade is not only a nonsense but improper. And since reparations is seeing the business in solely 'monetary terms', that is obviously the issue to be discussed.

Having an interest abroad when slavery was ubiquitous in the world is a sure way to find some remote links to slavery, which is why I find these accusations ridiculous.

Moggy seems to forget that his wife's descendants received so much "compensation" from the taxpayers that they able to afford to build Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest house in the UK. These families are still living of that seed capital.

This is just silly. Two nutty Brexiters massaging each other's ego. Ian Dunt tried to set up a dialogue with Tombs, but I don't think anything came of it.

@@nik-ev3eh Because politicians with the same mind set as you, have never fully implemented brexit, and done everything in there power to obstruct it from happening. . 7 years on and we are still tied to the EU, disgusting! Besides, depending on whose information you are reading, we are outshining the EU in spite of our corrupt politicians!
