The music and singing make this movie an eternal masterpiece. They elevate the simplest of stories and least complex of people into something deeply moving and profound.
It's François Chalais and he's actually well-known to be quite a good interviewer because he knows how to create some kind of spontaneity and intimacy in his questions while remaining relevant and clever (also his smooth voice and the way he talks are quite something, very distinctive haha)
You don't need Criterion, it is made for US audiences and it takes advantage of that by heavy pricing and making archive footage seem exclusive (paying) and unavailable. RU-vid has the same footage for free, plus you have the french archives, INA.
