My god. I used to play tennis next to this genius in the Forest Hills at Porte de la Chapelle club in Paris late at night. He would play tennis after recording in a studio near by, but even though I knew who he was, didn’t ever talk to him since I didn’t want to bug him during his leisure time. Love all his music and he has inspired some of my own piano music themes. Love the way his jazz improvising still allows the average listener to follow what he is doing (not too abstract as some jazz improvising is).
La musique devrait toujours être cela… Du jeu ! Comme entre mômes. Superbe version !
...Michel Legrand ... Quel ARTISTE FABULEUX!!!
For the past several years, this is my most watched video on RU-vid. It always brings joy to my ears and puts a smile on my face. I had the pleasure of seeing Michel in concert about 4-5 years ago, front row, center seating - what a privilege it was. Beautiful music, beautiful mind - I will miss him.
Who else could play a song in every single key, and play it to perfection? Michel Legrand wrote one of the most beautiful songs, and performs it like only a master can, and in nearly every musical genre. Truly an amazing performance indeed.
This exact performance was included as a bonus track on the Umbrellas of Cherbourg complete soundtrack as a bonus track. I've always thought it was so fantastic and melodically inventive. It's incredible to finally SEE this performance.
I was just a little girl when this movie came out and the story brought me to tears...... The music was just so beautiful and the story so sad. Went well together...... Still love the movie, however the story is as old as the world ofcourse.
The Man, French music composer Michel Legrand is a genius. I will never tire of his music, from all of his jazz compositions to the big movie themes. Merci, merci, merci maestro!!!
He certainly was. He could hold his own with the Great American Jazz Masters (only the best in the world!) RIP Michel and thank you for a lifetime of music!
I alway knew Legrand, he is great. I looked him up and saw this and thought it was great. But I NEVER heard this bass player before. WOW. He is OUTSTANDING. Eric Lagace!!!! His tone is Full. That's how I like my bass players to sound. He got a lot of Ray and Neils in him.
Rip Maestro Michel Legrand.
He is sublime...any artist who is privileged enough to work with him is indeed fortunate. Boy this is really a talked through rendition...kind of fun to see the musicians follow him and his joyous and fun romp through this tune. *****
We love how Legrand calls out all these different styles, traditional, swing, bebop, Bossanova, tango, 'New Orleans', and the band just goes right with him. Excellent concert, thank you for posting this!! Happy Jazz Day 2014.
I had the unbelievable luck to see the amazing Michel Legrand perform this, along with other famous compositions of his, a week ago (he is now 80 years old!).... he is a living legend jazz pianist virtuoso as well as an incredible composer of beautiful film scores and jazz standards.... and just plain funny, sweet and adorable in person...
If it takes forever I will wait for you For a thousand summers I will wait for you Till you're back beside me, till I'm holding you Till I hear you sigh here in my arms Anywhere you wander, anywhere you go Every day remember how I love you so In your heart believe what in my heart I know That forevermore I will wait for you The clock will tick away the hours one by one Then the time will come when all the waiting's done The time when you return and find me here and run Straight to my waiting arms If it takes forever I will wait for you For a thousand summers I will wait for you Till you're here beside me, till I'm touching you And forevermore sharing your love
No matter who the person is or what what the name of the music is I sure really truly honestly do love them . They're wonderful music ,people who do it .
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard. It is better played as the emotional song that it is. It loses something w the Jazz. But it is an honor hearing the composer and seeing him. He has graced our lives w beauty.
I listen to music with earbuds while working. It helps me concentrate. Then I started listening to this and had to stop in the first notes, thinking: "Do I really want to do this now? Cry at work?" This song and the movie are the most wonderful things and make me just too emotional. Love Michel Legrand.Genius.
wow, incredible! I got tears in my eyes right from the beginning, that beautiful opening :) :) :) Michel Legrand has written some of the most beautiful songs of our time. Thank you, Michel Legrand!
