It may be the horological equivalent of graduating from elementary school, but I've suddenly become extremely interested in Jaeger-LeCoultre. Their history and processes are incredible.
I found the standard MC calendar model a bit too plain for my taste and have been waiting forever for a blue version, so when this came out it was a dream come true. I bought this today and it’s so beautiful I just can’t stop staring at it. Looking forward to seeing the jumping date work come Sunday evening.
I have always loved the master control collection. These two are standouts. I do find the jumping date script a little distracting. I love how JLC makes their movements thin (even with several complications) and so the wearability of the watches are just perfect. Alexander, you are such a great reviewer!
They are both beautiful. I prefer the clean lines of the Master Control Date but the Quantieme a Date Sautante looks beautiful as well. They both look really good on you wrists, Alexander!
Great video as ever - thanks! What a stunning pair of watches! Great proportions, beautifully designed, perfectly finished. The easily changeable strap is a bonus.
I reserved the Master Control Calendar from the local boutique the day after I saw this video. Finally got it last week. Extremely beautiful watch. One of the most exquisite blue dials I've seen. Strap is high quality as expected, but the butterfly clasp/deployant is a bit awkward to put on or unfasten. Probably takes some time getting used to. Will explore purchasing the steel bracelet as someone suggested.
Thanks for sharing our passion! Bravo! Congratulations! May your Master Control Calendar always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours! Please keep us posted concerning the steel bracelet...
I was tempted to buy the ‘date’ one a year ago, but didn’t. Am circling back now and wondering why there are so many available on chrono 24 and also at the boutique. A year on, how do you feel about this watch?
Simple but perfectly executed by JLC, as to be expected. Thanks for the presentation. Did you happen to get your hands on the new green Polaris? I'd love to see that one!
Love you channel. This helped me pull the trigger on the Master Control Date, blue dial. It is stunningly elegant. Love the brushed case sides - just a touch of sportiness to help make it a worthy daily wear. The blue sun-ray dial with the light blue minute track is sublime. The lume is not that great, but understandable considering the minimal application (any more would spoil the elegance). The stitching in the band coordinates with the minute track. If you want something really nice that’s not Rolex, this is a good watch to consider. Very under the radar, but watch enthusiasts Will complement to you on your lovely time peace.
@@WatchAdvisor this is a tough question to answer. If I really had to choose, I would probably go for the Master Control Calender because of its perfect simplicity. Lovely piece. JLC is really a brand that I would love to have in my collection.
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative commentary with beautiful imagery. Thank you! Question: Why is crown not centered on the case edge? To be clear, is this the architectural limitations with the push buttons?
Thanks for sharing our passion! The "Calendar" is powered by an automatic base-calibre on which a module was built for the calendar functions and the moon phase indication. Therefore push pieces of the module are not in line with the crown of the base-calibre...
I bought the blue MCC. I hardly manage 5 minutes not to look at the watch, because the dial has a magical attraction. The only thing that surprises me is the loud rotor noise. According to JLC, these are normal because the rotor is free-floating and therefore does not require lubricants.
Yup, my MC blue date does that too; the ceramic bearings don't require lubricant so they don't require servicing but they make a slight noise when the rotor spins. All of JLC's models have ceramic bearings now so something to keep in mind. If it matters to you, it doesn't bother me and I don't hear it when I'm wearing the watch.
Just an update. I bought the steel bracelet, and they look fabulous with the blue dial. They're light, comfortable, excellent micro adjustment design, and overall high quality build, as what you can expect from JLC. A bit pricey if you buy separately but I think well worth it.
I'd love to see it. It's kind of amazing to me how quiet JLC was releasing the steel bracelets. And marketing department such little effort into the photos... etc. also congrats!
@@Superdada Thanks! I went to the Reverso Stories held in Tokyo this month. They launched the 10-piece limited edition reverso with a Hokusai painting enameled on the back. I asked one of the JLC staff if I could take a picture, and the lady in turn asked me if she could take a picture of my watch. Imagine that.
@@Superdada Yes, it tapers from 20mm to 18mm, just like the leather strap. Any new MC or MC Calendar would have these along with the calf leather strap, so I think you can try them on if in stock. It makes the MC, specially with the blue dial, very sporty, yet elegant.
@@judasslip Awesome, literally since the blue dial MC debuted I wanted to see it on metal. That's great you went to the Reverso Stories. I just watched a video tour of the one they did in Singapore. So wish we had this in our area in Colorado. And today, I'm excited because in the mail arriving is my new Reverso Tribute in Green. I'm like staring out the window waiting for the driver to come! 😜 JLC is killing it these days. Those who know, know!
Nice. Especially the date version. I would love it just a bit more with 38mm. I think it fits better those slim „business“ like watches. Just personal taste.
Alexander, can you confirm if there movements hack? I think they should and when you were setting the time on the date model the seconds hand stopped. I tried it out at a boutique but that model (perhaps a demo model) didn't hack if I remember correctly. Cheers and love this video!
Alexander, you need to buy the Master Control Date for yourself. It looks really good on you, it's a perfect match. They don't come around often. You should seriously consider it. ✌❤
I bought the MCC white dial with brown strap. I knew this is coming but I preffered the while silvery dial to balance the collection since I have plenty of blue dial watches. It is nice to watch watch reviews and If you like it you can just walk in and buy one. A true haute horology.
A beauty that Calendar! Question: Does the off-center crown cause any discomfort to the wrist or noticeably hit the skin while wearing as it seems to be “lower” than edge of case?
Absolutely not! You will definitely not feel the crown... I never had an issue with a watch that also features a modular construction as this "Master" ...
Great blue sunburst. Also Love the way the date pointer jumps over the moonphase. I agree regarding the price, but I believe it will still sell relatively quick
Both are excellent watches, they are eye to eye… Best would be to try them on your wrist and compare them 1:1… then let your heat decide… it won’t lie…
Hi Alexander, I'm just just curious, what would you have instead of the text under the moon phase? I kind of like it compared to having just a large blank space and after a while I stop noticing it until someone who has no background in French, or not familiar with this model, become curious about what is written and it starts a very lively conversation.
Hello. Great job👍 I have the opportunity to bye a “new” 2018 Omega speedmaster 1948 senter dial. Also considering master control. What do you think? Best regards
Beautiful Beautiful watch and always love your infroduction of watches. Seriously thinking about the clean three hand model. Thanks for another super video. Greetings from Taiwan😜
Hello 王度, your fellow Taiwanese watch lover from Los Angeles, I just picked up the MC calendar today, a very beautiful and stunning piece from JLC, good luck hunting on the date version 😄
18 K gold is hidden because in the past JJ was using 21 K, that is why... bit of a sneaky move to hide it now, saving money i understand but transparency towards customers is also important.
It is even 22 carat! All Calibre 899 are fitted with an 22 carat rose gold oscillating weight... Mentioned or not, does not make any difference... So why worry?
@@WatchAdvisor Didn't you say in a comment below that is was 18 carat? Which one is it? I'm pretty sure it's rose plated tungsten. That's what another channel said. I don't care, I bought it anyway because it's beautiful.
Unfortunately, I had a major disappointment with my MCC recently. It acted up with 15 - 16 jump. I returned the watch and expecting a new one next week. I loved the watch so much that want to give it another chance. I don’t want to get anything else at this time…
The blue version of MC Date really stunned me. I would say said it’s sliver counterpart is a bit too low key. However in terms of MC Calendar, I still prefer the silver one on my wrist, as the white characters on deep blue is too apparent for me.
Another excellent demonstration video. There are not many videos which show Master Control collection in such a detail. I have one remark that perhaps the oscillating weight is made of 21K gold (and not from 18K gold)
@@WatchAdvisor Actually, I planned to buy the white dial version, was there in a Munich AD back in mid of 2020 when the listed price was at 6950 €. I wished to wait a bit to be sure. Now the listed price is 9550€. In my opinion, for such a model the price increase is too big, considering the competition, and it is a pitty that this great model lost its appeal only due to exaggerated pricing policy, in my humble opinion.
GOD BLESS YOU ALEXANDER. I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU AND VERY HAPPY FOR YOU. I HOPE ALL OF YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE MY FRIEND. I HOPE YOU HAD THE BEST AND HAPPIEST CHRISTMAS OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. I LOVE YOU. 🙏
@@WatchAdvisor yes and in no way am i saying they are the same thing or equal level. it's just another good watch with a similar look at a lower price. =)
Excellent choice, but you must decide - sorry! The best is two compare them 1:1 on your wrist in different light conditions... Then let your heart decide, it won't lie...
What would you choose if you had to pick? I know them both reasonably well. Dial wise, as incredible as the sixties is, I'm a sucker for applied indices and prefer the JLC handset. Case is a wash is I think the JLC case is a little more complex in design and finish, but the GO has the beautiful box sapphire. I think the GO movement finishing is actually a little better due to the bevelling on the edges and black polishing, but JLC movement is a little more modern and with a solid gold rotor. For me, the JLC ever so slightly takes it but both are fantastic watches.
I can’t decide either… blue is my favorite watch color and both are stunningly beautiful and technically sophisticated… well in the end I’d probably buy both starting in alphabetical order with the Glashütte Original…
I'd choose the Master Control Calendar over the GO, but the GO over the MC Date. The Calendar model is incredibly beautiful and the complication is nice and, for JLC, historically significant. That said, the GO is thinner and also has a beautiful dial.
Enjoyed the video. Absolutely stunning watches! One drawback for me unfortunately, I like my dresswatches to be around 37mm. Otherwise this is a perfect watch!
I agree, I tried it on, just felt too big the dial is huge (and I like big watches), this type of watch should be 37mm, sports watch sizes applied to small bezel dress watch design doesn’t work!
@@WatchAdvisor you say that but look at the Lange Saxonia 37mm, it is the popular size, the 40mm is like a sundial .......Nomos Orion 35-38 sell well, the datejsut 36 (which is 35mm 3 to 9) sells just fine as well.....I think there are enough people who appreciate a more restrained size for this type of watch...
@@rey_s90 Maybe the smaller size fits to some models, but I don’t think it would to this JLC… IMHO this watch is perfectly balanced in size and thickness…
The text on the moon phase calendar is big and long. I think JLC take your words seriously, and maybe the next model would be more discrete. The price of the time/date is for what you get a bargain. Why? Simply, it is a high grade manufacture and competitors ask much higher prices.
Is this a promotional video? Sure, there are some nice touches, the dial definitely isn't. It's a pity, it would basically have been enough to simply take the moon phase with the golden stars and moon for the Master Control Calendar. Together with an all-blue dial like the Ultra Thin Moon, that would have been the icing on the cake. But this light blue minute strip only distracts from the beautiful details on the dial, just can't inspire me.
I like the blue strip too! I have ordered this watch because I am attracted by the light blue minute track which makes the watch look so unique. It also gives this watch a “modern” feel comparing with the regular silver colour version which is a little old fashion.
@@yatmanau I see something similar with the "regular silver color version". I would call it more classic than old-fashioned, but for me it's just a bit bland at the current price. Maybe that's why my personal judgment is so unusual because I actually have a soft spot for classic models. I like a very reduced dial, so the already mentioned Ultra Thin Moon suits me very well. Then I hope for you both a lucky hand to get them.
@@dans4323 It is not a true chronograph movement. It is modular. That is why the crown is that low. It is nothing but aweful. Would not expect this from JLC.
