Alan Jaeger and Jim Vatcher of Jaeger Sports take baseball players of the MLB Urban Youth Academy through a full demonstration of yoga. Yoga is helpful for flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, concentration, focus and awareness. Jaeger Sports is also dedicated to Arm Health, Strength, Velocity, Accuracy, Pitching, Endurance and Recovery Period.

Why are there so many "yoga haters?" This stuff has been around 1,000's of years and all of a sudden these "experts" on the comment section are dissing it. This is truly helpful

well I think occasional static stretching after lifting or a pitching performance is fine if not beneficial, but I don't agree with it as a full approach to training which is what Jaeger seems to be advocating, along with his throwing program. You can build flexibility through foam core, tennis ball rolls, and explosive, full ROM lifts in the weight room. I still stand by what I said about the reduced elasticity in the muscles when it comes to daily static stretching.

Are you saying you can increase groin flexibility through ROM lifts? I'm curious what those lifts would be. You can't stride like Lincecum (or do splits like NHL hockey goalies) without extreme groin flexibility. That can't be achieved with dynamic stretching alone (unless you want to tear a muscle). But, the point is, do you have research that says static stretching reduces elasticity in muscles, or is it your opinion? A lot of gymnasts would disagree with you.

I think you're confusing different research about stretching. The old-fashioned method of doing static stretching before practice/games has been shown to decrease performance. But, static stretching as one part of a long-term regimen is vitally important. You can't increase flexibility through dynamic stretching alone. Dynamic stretching used before performance helps prevent acute injury. Static stretching later helps increase muscle elasticity.
