I am not sure if many of you have heard this one, it is called as tappe, actually tappe is a traditional Punjabi word and usually is a two liner which was sung in weddings etc to tease each other. Although I feel beauty of the song gets lost in the translation but for those who can't understand Punjabi , I have tried to translate it in English CHITRA SINGH:- Kothe te aa mahiya, Kothe te aa mahiya, milna tan mil aaake nahi tan khasmanu kha mahiya, milna tan mil aaake nahi tan khasmanu kha mahiya, -- Please come on the terrace my beloved if you want to meet me and if you don't want to come then go to hell JAGJIT SINGH:- Oye ki lena ae mitra to, ki lena ae mitra t,o milan te aa jaavan dar lagda ae chitran to, milan te aa jaavan dar lagda ae chitran to.. -- What will I do with my friends, I want to come and meet you but I am scared of being caught and thrashed CHITRA SINGH:- Tusi kaale kaale ho, Tusi kale kale ho, o kuj te sharam karo tiyan putra wale ho, okuj te sharam karo tiyan putra wale ho.. -- Why are you so restless , have some shame , you have sons and daughters! JAGJIT SINGH:- saare dand pe katde ne, saare dand pe katde ne, asi tenu change lagde sadi duan putt vadde ne, asi tenu change lagde sadi duan putt vadde ne../ -- I have taken out all my teeth, you say you like me but my sons and daughters bite you? CHITRA SINGH:- Aithe pyaar di pooch koi na, Aithe pyaar di pooch koi na, tere naal naiyo bolna tere mooh uthe mooch koi na, tere naal naiyo bolna tere mooh uthe mooch koi na../ --No body cares about love here, I will not talk to you , you don't even have a moustache JAGJIT SINGH:- Majaa pyaar da chakh laanga, Majaa pyaar da chakh laanga je tera hukam hove me taan daari vi rakh laanga, je tera hukam hove me taan daari vi rakh laanga.. Even I want to enjoy love so if you order me I will keep a beard with moustache CHITRA SINGH:- Baage vich aaya karo, Baage vich aaya karo, jado assi so jaiye tussi makhiyan udaya karo, jado assi so jaiye tussi makhiyan udaya karo.. -- Come to the garden and when I fall asleep you should fly away the flies. JAGJIT SINGH:-Tussi roz nahaya karo, tusi roz nahaya karo makhiyan to darde ho gud thoda khaya karo, makhiyan to darde ho gud thoda khaya karo -- You should take bath daily and if still you are scared of flies then eat less jaggery . JAGJIT SINGH AND CHITRA SINGH:- Ping pyaar bitavange ping pyaar bitavange hun asi mil gaye haan geet pyaar de gavange, hun asi mol gaye haan hun roz nahavange -- We will spend the days in love on a swing , and now since we have met we will sing songs of love , to this jagjit singh says since we have met now we will take bath daily
You can actually feel the playfulness and naughtiness in Jagjeets voice and actions. Only true love can bring it out. Chitra on the other hand is much more restrained and prude, kind of perfect balance!!
2.3 k dislikes 😮😮😮 who are these idiots. I'm a Kashmiri and i don't understand a single word of Punjabi except tusi or toda etc, but I still found it amazingly beautiful. Hats off Jagjit ji and chitra mam
Abhi just şuna ye song pata nahi aajtak main kabhi etna happy mahsoos na kiya Koei song şunkar aaj se pahle lov you jagjit paa ji aap hamesha amar rahoge hamare dil me ❤
Two legends together but I feel very sad for their personal life. In 1990, Vivek (Jagjit Singh and Chitra's son) died in a road accident at the age of 20. This came as a profound shock to Jagjit and Chitra Singh. They gave up music for a full year after the death. At the end of that period, Jagjit returned slowly to music, but Chitra announced her retirement and declared that she would not sing or record any more songs. -Copy from Wikipedia
Tragedies appear to happen a lot to successful people in the public eye. Or maybe it just seems like that; because they are in the public eye?! In truth, the ONLY thing life ever guarantees is death. In fact, as death occurs during life, it is life which not only guarantees "the what: death" - but "the how: mechanism / circumstances of death". Given that life guarantees and determines death in its entirety, one may want to ask what or who gave one life? For as death is a reasonably foreseeable consequence of life, the life giver is also the death giver. When you look at it like that, it is not really a tragedy at all. So cheer up, the lot of you and just enjoy the music. - NOT a copy from Wikipedia!
Chitra's voice had upper hand, her controlled face expressions were balanced well by Jagjit via his casual and rather free approach. Perfect chemistry and execution. @03:47 she gave the best expressions to later bring back quickly to serious face with all ease.
Am I the only one... who couldn’t get through this video without choking multiple times... Jagjit ji and Chitra ji; you are and always will be special in our hearts.. your voice is truly missed..
Incredible... Jitne bar suno utni bar rona aa jata, 90s ka jamana aankho k samne ghum jata... Aur ek khalipan sa mehsus hota jaise kuch pichhe chhut gya ho...😧❤
Remember that jagjit Singh and chitra Singh lost their beloved son in a road accident.after that trauma,a deep pain of tone got developed in jagjit Singh's voice. Love and respect for both from Pakistani Punjab

Who's listening in 2019? Lyrics: Kothe te aa mahiya Kothe te aa mahiya Milna taa mill aake Nai ta Khasmaa nu kha mahiya Milna taa mill aake Nai ta Khasmaa nu kha mahiya Ke leyna hai mitra to Ke leyna hai mitra to Miln\' te aa jawa Daar laagta hai chiitra to Miln\' te aa jawa Daar laagta hai chiitra to Tusi kaale kaale ho Tusi kaale kaale ho Kuch tee sharam karo Dhiya putra wale ho Kuch tee sharam karo Dhiya putra wale ho Aye sare daNd paye kaDe ne Aye sare daNd paye kaDe ne Asi taanu chunge lagg de Te sade dhiya putt wadH de ne Asi taanu chunge lagg de Sade dhiya putt wadH de ne Ithe pyaar di puch koi naa Ithe pyaar di puch koi naa Tere nal naiyo bolna Tere moo teh much koi na Tere nal naiyo bolna Tere moo teh much koi na Maza pyaar da chak laan ga Maza pyaar da chak laan ga Je tera hukum hove Meh ta dardi vi raKh laanga Je tera hukum hove Meh ta dardi vi raKh laanga Baage vich aya karo Baage vich aya karo Jado asi saun jaiye Tusi makhiya udaa ya karo Jado asi saun jaiye Tusi makhiya udaa ya karo Tusi roz nahaa ya kaaro Tusi roz nahaa ya kaaro... ...Tusi roz nahaa ya kaaro Tusi roz nahaa ya kaaro Makhiya to darr de ho Gurr thoda khaa ya karo Makhiya to darr de ho Gurr thoda khaa ya karo Phing pyaar di pawange Phing pyaar di pawange Hunn asi mil gaye ha Geet pyaar de gaawange Phing pyaar di pawange Hunn asi mil gaye ha Translation: Come to the terrace, would you? My Love, If you wish to meet, that is?! You can get lost if you don't..1 I would certainly be glad seeing you than my friends, But there is a problem, I am afraid, if caught, I would be trashed. So, I won't. You are very mean! Have some shame, You have daughters and sons. All of my teeth have fallen now, You still do like me, don't you? Even when our kids disturb you a lot? Huh! There isn't much bother for love here. Go! I won't talk to you. You don't even have a mustache! Even I would like to taste a little love, If you'd order, I would even keep a beard.6 Would you come to the garden, Please! While I sleep, Would you mind keeping the flies away? Would you mind bathing daily? If you are so irritated by flies, You should also have a little jaggery.8 And now that we have found one another, We will live happily together, And sings songs of love for one another.
@ 3:48 you'll fall in love with her.. i think this song so beautifully portrays an innocent love . But sadly such songs are no more played in weddings. I still remember my elders singing tappe in weddings. I request the people reading this comment that ditch DJ's and honey Singh type of music in your weddings. Instead go for the folk and traditional musical ceremonies
Everytime i listen this recording my eyes get wet. Beautiful camraderie between them reflects on stage. I wish time could just stand still and my generation could also get the privilege to listen them . And my heart felt gratitude to the person who uploaded this video ,atleast we are not deprived of hearing and watching their expressions while singing. This is such a timeless beauty.
This era of 80's and 90's was beautiful.... serioulsy jagjit saahab and chitra ji has made us all nostalgic.... great voice both of them.... now a days everyone is running after money.... they forget that one day we'll go from this world into a unknown world... but still people r fighting for money.... RIP jagjit saahab uve made ur contribution to d world in a perfect manner...
These are legends....but I really feel sad for their personal life Their son died in a car accident in 1990. They both gave up singing for 1 year. Jagjit sir came back after a year but Chitra mam did not sing again. Chitra's first marriage daughter died in an suicide attempt in 2009.... Jagjit sir died in 2011 October... Now Chitra ji is alone for life away from everyone and living a lonely and sad life...no one cares for her financial condition or anything
Whenever I play a jagjit ji's song my mother brings out this. She often says that once chitraji had a whole family, a son and a daughter to dote on, a husband to share life and passion of singing, how all of them would have sat together for their meals, with everyone' s different demands, and now there is nobody, she is alone. I wonder how chitraji musters the courage to face the world everyday.
@@Foodfry122 she lives with her daughter's children...her daughter had a son and a daughter....also I never heard or read anything about weak financial situation..people just start assuming things.. yeahh she went through a lot and it needs immense strength to stand up again
@@rihantchhabra9635 yeah due to monocity and lack of exposure to the real Punjabi folk which is diverse... But singers nowadays only sing same kind of songs.... But on the other hand singers like Hans Raj Hans , Master Saleem, Gurudas Man have glorified Punjabi folk worldwide but people especially youth they don't listen to such songs
I listened this i guess more than thousand of times ....it’s so much appealing that everything it brings tears 😭...We miss u jagjit ji n chitra ji very soulful voice.....who else in 2019?
Wow, this song recorded almost 39 years ago is still so beautiful and enjoyable to listen and watch the amazing couple. We loved your songs back then in South Africa and you are still one of my favourites.
atleat 10 times i watched this song.. and 20 time his expression on ""assi tenu changey lagde to sadde diya budh wadd dene"" and last few seconds.. countless
Simply mesmerizing! They make a great pair. He, the leader, she, the follower. I am addicted to this performance. What makes it awesome is the chemistry between them.
Back in 2013, I was preparing for my JEE in Kota. One day, after the completion of trigonometry chapter, we the entire class insisted our teacher to sing a song. He was blushing, nevertheless we put him in the situation in which he had to sing. . My friends, this was the song, he sang and the whole class was overwhelmed. Back then I couldn't understand the lyrics and words and for years I wished to find this song. Finally I found it and recalled all that memory.
Its been 6 yrs since i first heard this song. Its evergreen. I am so lucky my parents took me to jagjit Singh's concert in the Taj hotel New Delhi in 2005. I remember he sang chhithi na koi sandesh and the audience went silent. Such was his magic even the waiters, housekeeping staff all were listening to him. I remember Shiela Dixit the then Cm of Delhi was also there. I miss him. I wish gazal culture never die.
Wah wah wah yar kiya zamana tha ye indi pak dono ka kiya audience hoti thi kiya singer hote thay kiya sharam o haya hoti thi itnay baray singer ko bilkul young dekh dekh k bohat acha laga ALLAH jagjit par apni rehmat farmaye respect from across the border
