After 8 months and 5000 miles, these are the 5 issues I found most surprising about my 2017 F-Type S manual convertible. Sept. 2021 Update - 15,000 miles and still no problems!
I have the same model (S) but with the all wheel drive and it loves the snow ( as opposed to gravel or something which, let's face it, I wouldn't do obviously) The best part of you video is when you went into the tunnel and you could hear the glee and laughing because that's how I feel EVERY time I drive it. Great video btw....😷
I’m so thankful to live in Atlanta at the base of the Appalachians. My v8 F-Type absolutely LOVES mountain hairpins and switchbacks, eats up every single turn in cloud of smoke.
Thank you for this video! I can never get enough content of the F-type, since it's my dream car & I'm researching for purchase. Yours was a practical perspective of ownership, not just the cookie cutter review like much of the content on RU-vid. Thanks again!!
Good on you to use your Jag as a daily driver..! I've got an older 911 convertible that serves in the same manner, here in sometimes snowy Colorado. People have gotten so incredibly conservative regarding what they feel will work as a normal car, but there's no reason to shy away from something semi-exotic. Anyway, nice video! Thanks for posting.
Hi Matt, I bought the 2017 F-Type R Convertible new 5 years ago as a second car. Today it has run 10'000 km, so just under 6'500 miles, and I can confirm all your findings Matt: this car is fun to drive, causes zero problems, the fuel consumption is very moderate for a 551 PS V8 supercharged vehicle. Like you, in 5 years I have never, absolutely never had a problem with my F-Type R... I have never been able to say that about any other car, BMW, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, all those cars had their quirks, the Jaguar does not. A good car, for the V8 R identical good experience on my part as you had with the smaller S Matt!
V8S owner: 1. I have no idea how you fit all that stuff in to your trunk. Bravo! The trunk size is a challenge for sure. 2. I have never once used the stop start. Surprisingly have always remembered to turn it off. 3. I hoon the crap out of my car. I fully use the power everytime I drive it. It's great that the V6 is enough for most, I have to have more power. In fact, I still want more. The V8 is explosive and quite dramatic, I'd miss it too much. 4. I have zero clue what MPG my car gets. Probably under 10 with how I drive it. 5. My car like yours has been flawless. I drive like a grandpa until she warms up, and then I drive her hard. I took the engine cover off mine after I learned the R models don't come with them due to heat. The cover deadens the direct injection noise a ton but it's also a big blanket. The V8S is identical to an R (only difference a tune) and the V6 is extremely similar to the V8 so if it were me I'd remove the cover on any F-Type if the engineers required it on the higher output. No need risking too much heat warping some heads.
I still have absolutely no regrets. After daily driving it for almost 2 years and 12,000 miles The only problems that I have had, and they were fixed on the warranty, was a bad battery and a bad oxygen sensor.
@@mbrenengen Thanks for the quick reply. I have an XE now and wouldn't mind trading it in to give myself a wonderful year of driving the F-type before lock-down is over and other pleasures get in the way!
I had a 2016 coupe fire 3yrs, BULLETPROOF. Next lease I moved up to the R-sport 380hp and cross something off my bucket list and ordered and custom built from the factory a CONVERTABLE! I've been in the same cockpit for 4.5 years now and it's still ALL SMILES...👊💚👊
Hey Matt, been subscribed since I found you video on fixing the sway bar links for your Saab. Nice video, the truck space looks like so much considering I probably would have had trouble fitting all that into my old '07 9-3 convertible with the top down. Issue number 2 if you can turn it off why would anyone complain haha? Issue 3 man you're super cool for driving it year round! It's definitely one of those cars I'd never think to see in the snow but here we are. Issue 4 ticks me off because my 4 cylinder Saab can barely hit 30mpg lol. Issue 5 is great news and pushes this car more into "maybe one day and it's practicable" category for me. That center vent thing is a neat trick. Overall I too loved this car for it's exhaust and for a convertible I think it looks great.
Thanks for your comments. I can't get over how much more efficient cars are now. My beater car is a Saabaru 9-2x. I am lucky to ever get more than 25mpg. Saab 9-3x convertibles are great cars. They look great and they are remarkably affordable. Good choice.
Love the video, I have been researching f types for about 3 years waiting till I had the funs to buy one and then I just found a near perfect spec v6s coupe (auto ;( ) in stratus grey metallic with every optional extra sold by carmax for well under 35k for a ‘15 50k miles car, im only two days into ownership but this video was incredibly insightful and makes me more calm about ownership, great content.
So true, watching all the car reviewers in open road is not realistic. On most people's regular commute we can never let it rip before we have to hit the breaks again.. Thanks for the video, top notch.
Good video and I would agree, with your comments, even off the lights you cant pin the gas without breaking the speed limit in a couple of seconds. Enjoy your car. I have the Type R 4wd in Canada and its phenomenal in all weathers
I have a v6S coupe awd for 2years from new and pretty much agree with what you say. Biggest negative was JLR quality control which is subpar coming from an Audi and surface rust on the rear steel A frame which is easily correctable (apparently rectified from 2019 my). The original looks the best in my opinion in person (though does not photograph well). Early models had bugs
I have a V8 F convertible too, it fits a large cart of groceries, my cleaning bucket, my leaf blower for drying the car, and my buffer. Its basically enormous.
@@alexralston22 I bought my 2014 with the 7Y/100K miles CPO which expired unused. I wouldn't pay extra for a CPO. Great car. Perfect. And I race the hell out of it.
My F-Type is also my daily driver, but I live in Charlotte. This man is brave to drive his every day in Canada. He must have been a goalie in his youth....
Loved the video...trunk demo was very helpful. I like the convertible better too. I'm impressed you use it in the snow. Did you add snow tires or are you using all season?
As others mentioned, these aren’t issues but rather addressing what others perceive as issues. I own an R model and love it. I came from a 911 and it’s clearly a different animal. And the start/stop can be easily disabled by disconnecting it by the battery.
I am so glad to see #3 as someone from Iowa, I have been trying to figure out how well it does in snow. Any update on it's reliability after owning it like a year?
It has been more like 20 months now. Funny you should ask... It is currently immobile in my garage. Battery is totally dead. It also has an unrelated CEL. Through my rose colored glasses, it would appear that the battery went belly up. I suspect it sitting around not being used at the dealership in Canada for more than two years seriously compromised the battery, so at the first sign of cold weather it gave up. No biggie. The CEL indicates a fault with one of the oxygen sensor preheaters. Again, no big deal. Other than that (it being totally dead) I have not had one single problem with anything. :)
@@mbrenengen That doesn't sound horrible. Been eyeing an awd s, and just nobody that reviews them talks about snow and such. Thanks for the update glad to know it's just minor things really.
@@frostshock13 I will update after it is fixed. In regard to driving in snow, I had no problem at all last year here in Minnesota. You will have no problems in Iowa (so long as you have snow tire - don't even try to drive on the P-Zeros once it is below freezing).
@@mbrenengen Sounds good. Yeah, I keep my porsche in the garage all winter, but if P-zero's are anything like the Pilot sports I can assume the results lol.
Thank you for the video! I just got an f type last week and I’m wondering do you experience any slippery or slide in winter with winter tire on and snow mode on? I live in Toronto... and snow is almost always on the road. Just want to know how careful I should drive and is it a must that I need to buy a winter tire?
It is absolutely essential to have four good snow tires. Even with them deeper snow is tough because of how wide they are. I wish they could be narrower. Otherwise I didn't have much problem this winter.
Mine is the V6(S) w/380hp.+AWD and it works great even with sport tires. I do not change over to winter tires and just keep them on all year round. The F-Type with AWD has a TON of power so you have to be fairly careful and feather touch the gas pedal. I have however after a good wash I put some tire shine and apparently coated them way to much because while pulling away and hit the gass to blow any water in the cracks and ended up doing a full 360 as soon as I pulled out. It was kinda scary and fun at the same time.
Has anyone reported cylinder issues and water leakage wit the bonnet air vents?? I’ve been waiting since January 2021 for the cylinder and Jaguar can’t locate the part..I have now emailed the CEO of the company... it’s now April 2021.. no date for when the part will be a available. Car engine has been stripped down since January.. my patience is running thing. Can anyone help??? UK location...
I owned v6 S 2015 auto and i definitely agree with you , its one of the best road sports car which has a GT cars advantages but with 2 seats. Really its a daily use and combine between Sports and GT cars. Also its very reliable.
Its one of the only true sports cars on the market. A sports car is a ground-up convertible design with 2 seats. The F convertible is lighter than the coupe. A (much slower) 911 is a NOT a sportscar, nor is a (much slower) Huracan, etc.
@@hyper_channel to the right of the battery by the rear rt tire there is a module on the floor w 3 connectors remove the smallest connector to the top (black connector) other two connector are large grey and large black they stay connected
:) nice one… when I take my SVR coupe out, heads turn and I fly and I always drive with speed limits. I use a speed limiter and it’s the most amazing car. #gofornirvana
Well, I can't say there ever had been much accumulation as I park in a garage. I don't think it would be a problem. If the snow were deep enough that it were, there would be other problems.
I am just selling my 2.0ltr, 2019 F-Type after 2.5 yrs and 12,000 miles. I have had no problems what so ever, fuel is around 27mpg combined, so why am I selling? to but the 3.0ltr version, a brand new P380 in British racing green, these cars are superb.
Good choice. I am now at about 15k miles and other than an O2 sensor, no problems at all. I don't understand why the F-Type doesn't get more love from car journalists.
@@mbrenengen Well I think its the love affair with Porche and the fact that this challenges that. But as an aside, Jaguar put in the pops and crackle in homage to the Spitfire plane of WW11 as the car is made on the same site and the same building as the plane was. The production floor still has the slight slope that was necessary for the workers to push the plane from work station to work station and then out of the building where the female pilots got in and flew them to the airfields.
If you live in the southern half of the USA, you use 100% of the car everyday, 365 days/yr. Its the beginning of the grand solar minimum, so by 2032 there will be no summers and winter will be 30F degrees colder. You'll still be able to use an F-Type all year round in the south.
Matthew Brenengen I’m very looky to live in the countryside of the U.K. great long curvy roads clear of traffic until I get into a city. Definitely worth it for me. The grip and the cornering is incredible. The MAC I’ve got was 2.3G in a corner before. Incredible for my area.
@@mbrenengen Yeah, I floor my V8 maybe 3 times a minute. Its glorious and yes I've owned a V6, which I traded up to the 8. Like you, I watched all the reviews and vids and thought the V6 would be enough, but it wasn't. The V8 has exceeded my highest hopes. I'm glad there are people who love driving the V6, but I need ultimate power, and I use it all the time, everyday. Its about torque. HP is meaningless and has no effect on acceleration. A 1 cubic inch motor can develop 1000 HP but take a year to spin up.
i don't understand why some people are talking about the trunk. they said oh its too small, well duh! yes it is. because its a sports car not an SUV. small brain.
