I've done one oil change using the same extractor. As I recall my tube was small and slide inside the tube in the cars oil fill hole. I filled the extractor plus up to the lower line. Perhaps your extraction tube is shorter.

Having done both ways, I have extracted the same amount of oil from both ways. In both cases, the car was warmed up for about 5 minutes. So it is interesting to see your results.

I'm going to redo it in October and hopefully it works. It's possible the pump stops working when the oil gets nearish the top, but I can't conceptually come up with a reason the vacuum wouldn't form at that point.

@@HazyJaywhat? Once you run out of space or near it on a vacuum system it will stop pulling. Ever had a vacuum cleaner canister get full? The suction stops.
@HazyJay
@HazyJay 3 месяца назад
@@michaelschultz1104 you would expect a full canister to start pumping oil out of the exhaust port rather than air once it gets full, both oil and air are fluids and the pump wouldn't "know" what it's pumping. That being said, mine was about 5 cm below the output port and there was plenty of air to pump.

My extractor has a shut off float which is triggered once the fluid level rises near the top. Lucky for me i purchased an extractor with 8 liter capacity… which is more than my F-Type engine oil capacity.

I feel like I extracted more oil out. But I am using the oil extractor that attaches to an air compressor.

Interesting. What was the capacity of your extractor? Seemed like it was getting full at 5 liters. My 9 liter extractor pulls nearly all of my V6’s 7.2 liters. I may see what comes out of the drain plug next time. Thanks for posting.

Mine was a 6.5L pump and the capacity of the V8 AWD (2016) is 6.5L (wet fill). My plan was to empty it once it was getting close to the top and pump more but I ended at around 5L. I'll definitely try again at my next oil change in October and see, I'd love for this to work haha.

I got about 6 liters out of mine just for comparison so about 1 liter left in the car which is fine if you do oil changes every 6k miles or 10k kilometers since the engine is mostly not under a lot of stress in day to day usage with low revs all the time.
@HazyJay
@HazyJay 10 месяцев назад
Yeah it's probably OK to do extraction oil changes yearly then a normal change maybe every 4-5 years.

Great Video! Will definitely do both methods on next change based on this! Do you happen to have specs or link for your lift system? Thanks in advance.

The lift is a quickjack 5000TL, it's cheaper from Costco (even if you have to buy a year membership) so consider buying from there. If you do the extractor can you let me know if you get all of the oil out? I'd definitely like to do it from the top it's way faster but only if it works.
@HazyJay
@HazyJay 11 месяцев назад
It's possible that the extractor was malfunctioning, but I was able to suck oil from the used container after no problem so maybe the fitting to the engine was leaking vacuum.

@@HazyJay thank you! Next change in spring. I will try both extraction and drain plug and let you know…hoping extraction is all that is needed after that as well 🤞

Came here doing a little Google'ing before I go to change the oil on my 2015 R. Didn't even realize we had a dedicated extraction tube, didn't know that was a thing. Thanks for this vid; everything from the vibe to the quality and clarity of instruction, fantastic. Question on that rather large amount of oil remaining. Barring a pump issue, tube vacuum leak, or whatnot, is it possible that when you extracted with the oil filter on, and then (presuming you left the pump still connected) you opened the oil filter housing, is it even possible for that to create some sort of pressure release where all that excess oil found its way down? As in, if you opened the filter housing and then tried using the extractor again, you'd have picked up much of that remaining oil? In my head, it doesn't work that way. But I have minimal knowledge here. Thanks again for the great vid - and the one with the flappy noise, what a simple fix.

It's possible the there was some oil left in the filter area and it was trapped due to suction in that area. In October I will try it again and this time with the filter loose and see if it changed. I'd like for the top-down method to work since it's extremely convenient.
@Eskareon

@@HazyJay same. I went ahead and ordered a Mityvac today. When I change mine, I'll try loosening the filter as well and let you know how much I can extract. I'd also like to avoid the rather ambiguous jack points on this car.
@HazyJay
@HazyJay 7 месяцев назад
@@Eskareon Yes! Let me know what you can get. Yeah the quickjacks are barely long enough to reach the jack points but I had to buy them because jacking up this car is a pain since it's so low.

@@HazyJay Hey, sorry for the delay getting back to you. I'm lazy. So according to my notes, after extracting the oil, I had to add 6.7 liters of oil to get it to show full (this is after letting it run to cycle through the new filter, etc.). Which means if the sensor is correct and it's truly full-full, then that leaves about 0.5 liters of old oil somewhere in the system, as according to the manual my capacity is 7.2L. This was with me removing the old oil filter and then using the Mityvac to extract oil. And moreover, my new Mityvac had a vacuum leak - the hose came cut at a sharp angle and must not have seated properly in the quick-release fitting, so I was constantly fighting it sucking in a little air, requiring me to pump the entire time. But even with that reduced suction, I got all but 0.5 liters out. Again, presuming the sensor is correct. I wasn't about to jack up the car and remove the bolt just to see, hah. Also, I didn't bother writing down the amount of oil I extracted, because the level was getting low and I've been driving it hard for months, so I know I burned off some oil anyways. That's why I went with "how much did I add to get it to full." So, all of that said, your 2 Liters remaining after the Mityvac sounds high. Maybe next oil change you can try removing the filter first and seeing if somehow that helps your extractor... extract.

@@mar10802 Even if you drain out the bottom there will always be some of the old oil left in places. It's not a big deal. You will never get it all, and basically you should be able to get the same amount from the top as from the bottom. The mistake this guy made is he didn't't loosen the filter before draining from the top.

I'm going to refer to another youtube creator whose vid I watched before I bought mine. Some main things are keep up with maintenance, change rear diff oil, watch for rear diff leaks and possibly upgrade the coolant Y-pipe prophylactically. I've had mine for a year and the only problem has been a rear diff pinion seal leak which was $300 but covered by warranty. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JD5FhkrwwX4.html

Oh one more thing, in 2021 they made it more difficult to make the car sound the way it used to in 2015-2020 (probably due to regulations), and due to this, you may need to remove a fuse to make the exhaust full-time open. Before MY 2021 you just need to keep the car in dynamic mode.
