Matt gives a tour of some beautiful Connecticut backroads in his Mom's new 2015 Jaguar F-Type V6S Coupe! We all know she'll never drive it properly, so Matt is just being a good son.
I have a 2017 FType V6 S and still smile daily. Lease is up tho and getting a FType 2020 V8. Test drive every competition. F-type can’t be replaced. The drama and fun factor is insane. It never gets old.
I like the One Take videos but, I do have to mention that I miss seeing the more produced videos. You are one of the few entertaining car reviewers. Keep up all that hard work. It is much appreciated.
cburner89 we try, we really do. but it's really hard to make an argument for produced stuff except in rare occasions, and I hate to say it, but every single press/cool car I drive (my mom's car excepted), I make a "pretty" film with for Drive. So it's not like we can go out again and make another full-day shoot with the same car. There are only so many of us, and so many days in a week. So a lot of the cars you'll see on drive, you'll also see a thorough one take video here. We do have some plans for some pretty films, but if we're gonna keep the channel free, which is the ultimate goal, we can't produce money-losing videos.
TheSmokingTire Maybe if the Drive+ channel had the same communication level with the subscribers that TST does it would be worth it. Paying for a channel that does not even communicate with paying subscribers minimum is not away to run a channels that relies on fans. I know JF was on the TST team in the past but he didn't learn communicating with subscribers builds a bigger base for more views. Maybe you should have JF talk to the Smoosh Gaming guys so he can understand the importance of communicating with subs.
Also yes the word jaguar is from Portugal. However the company jaguar is from the UK so if we want to pronounce it the way we do we will. Our company our rules. :-P
There is just something right about a smooth, well tuned and sonorous high revving V6. This video made me miss the VQ35DE in my G35. Despite the harshness it emitted to the interior, the sound on the outside was glorious.
You know Matt, half of the fun in these videos is seeing different parts of the world. These sceneries are absolutely beautiful and I have nothing like this available near me :)
I really like these Matt. You're one of the only people on youtube that has enough personality to where I can watch a "One take" video without skipping through it. In fact all of you guys at The Smoking Tire can talk for days.
your mom is probably be the coolest mom on earth, can't imagine a woman in her 60's driving one of these and crackling some exhaust sound even when driving slow.... very unique choice Matt, hope your mom gonna have some fun with the jag for sure =)
Just brought a 2017 in virtually the same spec and colour combo. Absolutely love it and you're right who cars if a Porsche is technically better this makes me feel good.
A beautiful car that is quick and a nice daily driver yet you seem to feel it has a great sense of occasion. Sounds like a great combination. Thanks for sharing your mom's car with us as if we were with you to visit your folks for Thanksturkeyday
I actually really enjoy these little one-takes, it's nice to see a real honest to goodness first impression of the car without having too much time to nitpick all the stupid little details and convince yourself something minor overshadows the essentials of a car. I'm not a huge fan of car reviews that just go so far into it that you lose track of what the reviewer is trying to say about a car and wind up with a history/science lesson and a review of the options they checked off.
I guess the electric adjust seat button that lowers the seat on the door panel is too difficult to push. A nice video and Old Greenwich looks stunning. Certainly worth a visit!
It is hard to argue against the V6 when it is still a fast car, with a great exhaust note, and the centre exit exhaust. The British Racing Green. Gorgeous
First off, the F type is the most stunning new design of the past 10 years. It is so perfectly executed. Second, it seems that dynamically, Jaguar has done their homework of suspension calibration. This may sound sacrilege, but I think the V6S is the perfect model for a balanced car.
While I've never had the privilege of driving an F-Type, I feel like the V6S is the perfect amount of power for this car. The V8 would just roast the tires off, and that isn't very characteristic of a British sports car.
I might add uou are currently the best reviewer of cars on the free internet in my opinion. Also I am 6 2 and a good 50 pounds overweight. haterz gon hate. But ya I recently bought a nissan xterra pro-4x with manual, cloth interior black on grey. It's SO SLOW I was really expecting more from the 4.0 that really hates to rev above 4k. Like it sounds bad. but I got sick of not fitting into cars plus just wanted all around reliable beat around truck. Gas mileage, awful, ride on the bils, ehh, ok. I hate the tires it came with trying to find something with less road noise and that will last more than 25k. I have 9K on it now, I drive a lot on LI. I had 91' ZX TT back in the day, mint, had to roll out T tops off tho feel me.
When you had first said that it almost sounded like a skyline I thought that was silly, but after listening to it abit more you are right, it does sound similar to an RB26 from an R32/33/34 GTR. Great video Matt!
I'd say your mom is lucky to be able to own one of these, but I'm sure she's earned every bit of it. Also, the description on this video is great. If my mom ever gets her Corvette I'm going to have to be a good son as well and make sure it gets driven properly!
TheSmokingTire Are they realy that bad? thought they where a lot better then the masers wher a couple of years ago! The Maserati wins me back because it is cool as hell and not the obvious choice. I agree the Jag is cool, but everyone likes it and that makes it a bit mainstream (not that there is something wrong with that). But sometimes I seem the only one that thinks the jag is not the one to have. (but I am a big Alfa and Lancia fan so that sort of explains it) I would love to see a review of a Maserati by you!
HugoElders no i that is not realy what i ment. The maser id not everyones cup of tea, thats what why i like it. It has a slightly weird design, that is why I want to keep looking at it. The Jag like an aston is Just pure beauty, but it does not have sone stanges. And I want that in this type of car!
Wow Matt, had no idea you used to live so close to me, love those roads (Dingletown is my favorite). If you are still in the area for thanksgiving or something you should drive my car on some nice twisty roads. I think it will be fun.
All of the reviews of the F type from the UK have discounted the V8 as being too heavy. They have almost all recommended the V6S as the best one to go for.
Very nice one take of a great car. Love the color, though a wash prior to driving might have served it well. ;) Congrats to your mom for this beauty, may she enjoy it for a long time.
I agree, that V6 sounds stunning, and I love the sound when you let off the gas. But you asked for a better sounding V6, so I have to recommend you listen to a VW VR6 motor, they absolutely sing!
You said suggest another great sounding V6. Although not a big fan. The infiniti g37 coupe. Saw one last night and every time I hear one I'll stop and listen as long as possible. Check it out.
Connecticut scenery > Cali scenery by a LONG shot. I think the V6 F-Type Coupe with manual that is available now is one of the absolute best sports cars for real world backroads driving. And I want one bad...
Really not much weight difference between the v8 and v6 because the v6 uses the same block as the v8s with 2 less cylinders. I have drove the v8 it was awesome. Been tempted to buy one. Just afraid of the Reliability.
There’s only one V6 on the market that beats/matches the sound of the Jag and it wasn’t out yet when you made this. But the Alfa Romeo V6(75% of a Ferrari-Maserati V8) is the only one that comes to mind 😉
I'm from from fairfield county, too. I have to say the best roads are between pound ridge and 684; bendy and fresh-paved. You'll get to see Martha Stuart's house en route, as well.
TheSmokingTire I agree. Also like 301 Carmel to Cold Spring in NY. Limit is mostly 55 and you can then go up/down Route 9. Down over to Bear Mountain etc. Nice car.
Nice, your mom has some style :D. BTW V6 is absolutely ideal for public roads. Sounds great and the power is more than enough for public roads. V8 is just a waste of money :).
Very nice. I like your optimism about it continuing to work properly. Now since your mom was so nice to lend the car, are you going to wash it for her??
Yo matt man nice jag absolutly love the coler combo nd love the vids watch for ya all the time im from CT to so it pretty sick watchin your vids knowin were from the same place but keep the vids comin brotha love watchin
At the end stay straight, one of my favorite parts of that road there is a nice drop that's fun in both directions . So turn around at the State line and do it again.
Alex Zevallos I think Jaguar made the right decision. I think everyone who wants a RWD V8 either has one already as sales have been strong, or has another 6 months to get one. But for the mass market, I think most people are a bit intimidated by the V8 and the AWD system will give them more confidence at speed or in bad weather.
TheSmokingTire My perfect F type would be the roadster, V8, RWD, Manual. What a cool mom for having a F Type, and a cool dad :) I'm 6'1, the roadster will be great.
Great car, great location and great review. I am a little bummed that headroom is lacking in the cabin. Oh well, I guess I'll have to "sacrifice" and get the convertible...
Great video Matt. I certainly love mine. The only option that seems to be missing in your moms BRG coupe is the design pack which gives it side sills and a different rear diffuser. A great video nonetheless.
So seeing as your mom will not use the car for any of its sporting dynamics, is it safe to say that she bought it as a codpiece (or whatever the lady equivalent of that might be)?
highwaystar1009 It's safe to say that my dad bought it for her as a birthday present and she didn't even know she was getting it. I spec'ed the car out myself.
