I worked on this Simulator, at RAF Lossiemouth in the 1970s. There were 3 models, an Airfield model at 2000 to 1 scale, a Weapons model at 4000 to 1 scale and a Transit model at 20000 to 1 scale. that model covered the area from East Anglia to South Wales The Tv camera was mounted above the optic head seen in the video. It had full 3 axis motion and was a wonderful piece of kit to work on at the time
I also worked on the Jaguar Simulator at the same time as Pete we were the original simulator course spending the summer 72 in sunny Worthing at Link Miles. An interesting time and exciting time.
I remember the one at Lossiemouth and managed to bag a go in the Jaguar. They all had a large plastic spider on one of the hills. Caught a few by surprise I bet!
I remember as a Cadet seeing this type of simulator at RAF Lossiemouth used for the Buccaneers crews, just before they went out of service (94/95-ish). And I must admit at the time I thought it was a bit old hat technology and I was astounded by the area in which the landscape models took up. A quality piece of engineering at the time!
Anyone know what Discovery Wings episode this was taken from? I recall this episode in English language form about either the Jaguar or Buccaneer (I'm not 100% certain which after nearly 30 years), but can't find any trace of it on the internet.
