Hi Richard, they are great cars, and really affordable for such a lot of car. I have 3 boys and they love helping me out on the cars, when I get them off the playstation 😃
Wonderful Simon. Looks in great condition. Id take a small bet on her starting sweetly, as soon as there are new pumps on board. It looks like its just been parked somewhere damp for a long time, rather than as with so many X100's. Badly maintained and then someone has thrown in the towel. Get subscribing everyone. Or you risk missing all the fun!
Hi John, I really appreciate that buddy, I'm keeping everything crossed. I'll be putting the scan tool on it tomorrow to see what codes it has stored, so that will be my starting point. Thanks again for your encouragement and speak again soon buddy 🙏 👍
@projectsinthebarn yeh of course it will😉. Always a tense moment, but as you say the oil colour looks good and no sign of head gasket problems, the engine bay looks amazingly clean, so fingers crossed and really hope it does start for you. Quite an awesome project and plenty to keep you busy with for a while, but its such a great Jag and in really good condition overall and worth every moment or sorting out. 😊👍
I jumped ahead with your posts when I saw you’d got an XKR. It’s in remarkable condition if it’s been stored outside for 10 years. It’s cheered me up as my ‘03 XKR is parked outside under a cover. It’s a soft top though, unfortunately. You’ve exactly the same wood grain as me but I have the Satnav (working). There’s no nightmares here thus far and she’s a lovely example. Those wheels are really smart. Some people say hold the button backwards for 4 secs for the mirrors although John Dee said pull the button back twice. Mine works with one. My windscreen finisher is ok but the rubber underneath has lots of nibbles. Don’t know if you can just change that though. Looking forward to seeing you sort this car
Hi Paul, thanks for all of your kind comments buddy. I am fresh back from my holidays today, so there will be plenty more videos coming your way very soon. All the best mate, Simon.
Wow Simon, what a machine! She is gorgeous. A mate has one of these and I was not prepared for how brutally, insanely and relentlessly fast it was when he took me out in it. He then told me his foot wasn't to the floor! I really look forward to this next series of videos coming on this monsterously fast machine! Thanks for making and sharing them!
Hi Andrew, I am really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it. It was probably 8 years or so since I had my xjr, so I hope this is as powerful as I remember that to be 👍
The oil level is probably fine as many of the X100 had a revised fill level issued by Jaguar in later years. You can either buy a different dipstick or assume that the "Max" level is about as far above the current max marker as the min marker is below it. Your dipstick appears to be the old version, as is mine. You can even put a new max marker on the current dipstick with a file or hacksaw. There is plenty online about this issue. Richard
Hi Richard, thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Another subscriber has been in touch and has mentioned the same thing, a jaguar technical service bulletin was issued about it. Maybe I will have to mark the old dipstick as you suggest to show a more honest reading 👍
Hi james, it's always a compromise between style and comfort isn't it. 20s look great, but I guess I would get better ride quality with my 18s and descent tyres.
@@projectsinthebarn Mine is reasonably comfortable on the 20s especailly as i had the front suspension rebuilt last year and new Dunlop tyres too. It actually soaks up the pot holes quite well!! Heres a little video of mine from when i bought it in 2020. Dont worry the first thing i did when i bought it was to polish the nasty exhaust pipes! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hq_rXPfXfKs.html
@@projectsinthebarn sadly that was three years ago and the rust has bubbled through on the rear arch area. Ah well i'll just have to have it repaired! But apart from that it is fantastic 😍 Good luck with yours. I shall be following with interest.
Looks like a good project Simon. Body is very good as is the interior once cleaned up. The wheel arch extensions was only fitted with the20 inch wheels as they were wider. The folding mirrors was an option so maybe manual
Hi Steve, Thanks for that info buddy, always good to take on the extra knowledge. 20's may be an option as we go along, seemingly as we have to redo all of the brakes anyway. Budget will be the deciding factor. Maybe if I stop buying all of my children fortnite add ons for the playstation, I'll be able to afford some 😃
Nobody could accuse you of not liking a challenge Simon. Good luck pal. Hope it turns out to be a good 'un. Looking forward to seeing the new content in due course ☺️
Looks great! A few projects to keep you busy because you have t got enough at the moment 😂😂. Love the Black/Ivory combination (same as mine) but I think the actual colour is Anthracite.
That engine bay looks absolutely mint considering its been sitting for nearly 10 years. They're brilliant cars but can be an absolute pain to work on due to corrosion. I was fighting mine all the way when i was upgrading to the brembos for mine. Well worth the ball ache though 😂 cost me around £1800 with ebc pads and rotors but well worth it in my book. The standard brakes were too dodgy for my style of driving 🤣 but you can get ebc for the standard ones and they're the best ones to obtain. Another great project and can't wait to see how far this one comes along. 👍😎
Hi mat, thanks for your message buddy and advice on the brakes. They deffo need doing and like yours, by the sound of it, will be a pain ad the suspension and brake parts are all covered in surface rust from sitting for so long. It will all get added to my list, just cannot wait to get stuck into it all now 😀 👍
@@projectsinthebarn if it's that bad in regard of rust it's not an issue. Use evapo-rust mix it in with water and put the parts that are corroded in a tub over night. The concept of these cars are easy to work on but fighting the cars age and patina is part of the experience of owning these classic cars. 😂 Ain't trading mine in anytime soon that's for sure 😂
I am very pleased for you Simon. It looks a 'cracking' car and just the project for you to get your teeth into...First impressions look good, it certainly looks a sound baseline...can't wait until you get it running..... I eagerly await your renovation videos...
Hi Simon looking forward to seeing how you get on , I myself have a 2001 XK8 the same color as your last car but my XK8 has a strange quirk when I put my code reader on it tells me that it's fitted with a V12 engine so let me know if you or anyone else has the same thing with a 2001 car good luck and I will keep an eye on your progress. Bill.
Hi Bill, Thanks for getting in touch. I should be plugging the scan tool in tomorrow, so I will report back on how she goes 👍 would be ace if they did actually do a V12 version of this car 😃
depending on what oil dipstick that is, jaguar released a bulletin to add an extra 1 litre to the xkr. if its the original non updated dipstick then the previous owner new what they were doing, its a good sign. cant wait for these videos to come. thank you so much for vlogging .
Hi buddy, that's a great point about the oil level on the dipstick. I'll do my research and make sure that all ties in, would be great if that is indeed the case 👍
Hi James, oh dear, that's a shame. Is it the complete headliner and extra material for the a pillars? If so, I may be interested, so let me know a price buddy. I usually recover them myself in situ, with a material I use in my camper conversions. But by all means, let me know, buddy 👍
@@projectsinthebarn I bought new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 5 in the front last year and put on Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 6 on the rear just 3 weeks ago! I've seen alot of XKR with wrong size tires.
