Please also the carburetor! A cloth Lay on top. It's a good sign for Jaguar that he ran again in these floods. Continued success.

Wow couldnt help but squirm a little when i seen the state of the inside of that cam cover, ive got to get into mine soon and its always insightful to see someone else do it first. Best of luck with the rest of the procedure!

Hi buddy, it's not pretty, is it! Let's hope it's not too disgusting when I ultimately pull the cam cover off on that side. I'm sure we will get to the bottom of it 👍

Hi Simon, I love your videos (although sometimes they are a little long😉). Keep up the good work! I had a similar issue with rust in the coilpack bay on my XK8, but it wasn't this bad. After I bought the car from a dealer I immediately took it to a mechanic for a full service and he showed me the old sparkplugs which were almost like yours. He told me this usually happens when a car dealer washes the engine with a powerwash to impress the buyer with a clean engine bay. The high pressure water is able to get past the rubber sealant on the cover of the coilpack bay. Thanks god in my case it did not have that much time to rust. Looking forward to your next videos. Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter, I do jabber on at times, don't I! 😂 It's crazy how much water was sitting in mine and I couldn't believe it even started! Good to hear from you buddy and I really appreciate your support 👍

Good job Simon. I always worry about where the water is going when I wash my XKR! I appreciate that some people are trying to be helpful in criticising you for for not cleaning out the area better, but isn't it nearly always the ones who never post any helpful videos and therefore don't open themselves up to criticism?! Keep going Simon - I am following this with great interest!

Hi Andrew, good to hear from you, buddy. I couldn't believe the state of it in there. In the next video, you will see the exact opposite on the other bank! I appreciate your kind comments, I have certainly come to realise on RU-vid that you cannot please all the people all the time, so I just keep on going 😀 👍

@@projectsinthebarn Apart from my XKR, I also have a 1994 Fiat Panda which I bought as a project years ago. I finally got it back on the road last winter, welded up, suspension and brakes all renewed and I am now enjoying the open top motoring and simple charm. None of that would have been remotely possible without guys like you putting videos up on RU-vid. So you are also doing your bit for sustainability! you helping others to save cars!

@andrewgraham4838 that's mega and great to hear, good on you for getting it all back on the road. As you have probably seen my other passion is old VW's, I've always had them since I was 17, and I also love the fact how simple they are to run and keep.

Blimey! That was edge of the seat stuff watching you undo those plugs. Well done 👍 Good idea with the magnet. It's a testament to how good that engine is that it was willing to run as soon as it had fuel. Well done Simon 👍

Hi Stephen, thanks for that buddy, they did get the old palms sweaty! Let's just hope we can get that knocking sorted out 👍

Just a thought! You’ll have a passive alarm under the right side of your front bumper, unplug it! It has its own battery that draws from the battery and will be most certainly dead by now. It will keep drawing from the original when engine is off. I know as it happened to mine !

Great to meet you the other day Simon. I have not gotten to the Episode 7 video yet, but the water worries me that it maybe got past the cam cover gaskets. I would have them off and check underneath. I hope it is dry and has no corrosion. Cheers James

@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Hi James, great to meet you in person too. That's a good shout to have them off. I have got it all back together now and it's running a lot smoother.
@projectsinthebarn
@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Although not silky smooth yet, there's still a slight misfire present. Maybe a sticky valve or 2 to contend with.

I actually apply the gasket maker around the coils cover to prevent water to get inside. Hazards of having the bonnet vents😁

Good shout buddy, I will deffo be replacing the seal in the cover with a little extra something to help keep the water out 👍
@np0850

@@projectsinthebarn the thing is that apparently the seals getting bad overtime, so I use the seal AND gasket maker around the covers after i sealed it. I don't know why am I the only one who had the ignition problems in rain and in winter😀 Good luck with your jag!

@np0850 that's proper belt and braces, and I shall be doing similar to make sure this risk is minimal in the future. I appreciate your kind message, buddy 👍

Crikey, those coil packs look awful. I reckon you're right Simon about those louvres in the bonnet. I did the plugs on my XJ8 at 100k a couple of weeks ago. Solid bonnet, obviously, and the plugs and coils were immaculate by comparison. I'm astounded it started at all. Keep on keepin' on bro! Best of British 👍
@projectsinthebarn
@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Hi Gerard, they're a right state, aren't they! I still can't believe I got the thing started! Let's see what the other bank gives us when I pull them out tomorrow 😏
@tomfurie2996
@tomfurie2996 Год назад
On the one hand, this is an easy fix for misfiring and you should see a noticeable result. But, cringed that you did not clean out the spark plug holes completely before pulling the plugs. Who knows how much debris fell into the cylinders. Good luck
@projectsinthebarn
@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Hi buddy, thanks for your comments. I agree, I was a bit hastey to get in there and should have cleaned them out more thoroughly, too late now! I will use more caution when I do the other bank for sure. Thanks again for the advice 🙏

Hi Simon, I too am amazed that the machine ran. Excuse my hint...but don't you have a compressor? Before you open the car, everything in the engine compartment should be clean. 😮

Crikey, those were in a state. I assume you get a new gasket or similar to stop water getting in there in future?
@projectsinthebarn
@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Hi buddy, yes, I will be adding a new seal in there for sure. Others on here have commented that they use the original seal and a Sealant on there too to double their chances of keeping the water out.

Btw what’s the undercarriage like; it known to rust at the ends of the cross beams, behind the wheels.
@projectsinthebarn
@projectsinthebarn Год назад
Hi Peter, it looks a bit crispy where it's been stood for the last 10 years, but it's mostly just surface rust on the mechanical components. The shell is very good indeed, but does need a bit of work to the floor at the front, not too bad though in all honesty. I will do a full video on the underside when I get that for into the project 👍
