This is THE version of the fight. Forget the abomination of a scene they put forth on the show. It shows Jaime for what he is, a complete force of nature with a sword- the most naturally talented swordsman of all time. He lives for this shit. Even at less than half strength he gives Brienne the hardest fight of her life and she's no slouch. A great follow up to this is Briennes POV where she reflects on this fight and admits it took every fibre of her being to keep a weak Jaimes blade at bay, adding that at full strength there's not a single knight in the kingdoms who could withstand him. It drives me crazy that show only fans don't even accept Jaime has being above average when he is literally god tier and second only to arthur Dayne when he's wielding Dawn. Jaime was meant to SURPASS Dayne before he became the Kingslayer and had greater natural talent.
@@kingramp7312 yes, it's true. Jaime was an extremely rare prodigy, one of the most naturally talented swordsmen Selmy had came across. Just based on how ridiculously skilled he was at 15 when he could easily hold his own against skilled swordsmen of the time, the potential was definitely there for him to become better than the two knights he idolized. He even comments on it being his dream in his teens to become the sword of the morning ie the next Arthur Dayne. However I think his potential went unfulfilled in the end. Jaime still became the greatest sword of his generation but never reached the level of Dayne. He was soured by his experiences as a Kingsguard, realising he was chosen to take the White as a move to rob Tywin of his heir, and later bring despised for his killing of Aerys. He turned bitter about the hypocrisy of being a knight and keeping your honour and instead became preoccupied with Cersei.
@NeoGeoSNK at just 15 years old he was able to hold off the smiling knight - Arthur Dayne himself in his prime only killed the smiling knight after a long fight. That should tell you just how much of a prodigy jaime was as a teen. The books repeatedly allude to the young Jaime being tipped as the successor to Ser Arthur Dayne, that he would be the next generations version of him. It's what he wanted to be more than anything. But becoming the kingslayer meant that could never happen. And ultimately he became an example of someone with unfathomable talent whose potential was never fully realised. Once the realm looked down upon him, despised him, he turned to Cersei as his priority.
@NeoGeoSNK nope. Jaime was holding his own. This is made clear. No mention is made of him being 'saved' by Dayne at all. During the chaos of the battle Jaime crossed swords with SK and was able to hold him at bay - as a 15 year old squire. Later on Dayne also crossed swords with him in a lengthy duel and eventually put an end to him. Try to know the text before you talk shit. Suffice to say despite how much the fan base loves to jack themselves off over how much they love Arthur fucking dayne, a character who has had about 2 lines of dialogue in the books, jaime was almost certainly more talented. The fact that potential went unfulfilled is the reason why he never ascended past dayne
I feel robbed by the show! Compared to this, the brief season 3 jaime fight scene was pathetic, showing him as a weak warrior. I wish they had shown the part of Jaime and Brienne wrestling and wounding each other, Brienne trying to drown him to make him yield, instead it looked like Jaime tired in a few minutes
