Jay gives her a handshake, Craig goes for the kiss, inbetween the break Craig's talking to her while Jay's just kinda sitting there, mastery at it's finest
I actually met Craig recently and he was really nice and really just as funny. All the comments being about Craig totally stealing the show, I've watched lots of his interviews on other shows now and he actually steals the show in any show that he appears in, his personality really does shine!
One unmistakable quality of Craig is that he doesn't mind making fun, even humiliating himself on TV. Other hosts would be too self conscious about their image. Makes Craig more of a 'people's guy', I think....
You're all talking about the blokes. Rose is so innocently funny. Hang on let me rephrase that. She is willing to take the piss out of herself to have a good laugh.
What some people might have missed is that Craig had Rose on his show a couple years or so before, and she did not remember him. He knows she is very vein and a self centered bitch. If you listen to what he said 4:34 you will get that he just got her back for not remembering. He basically destroyed her. He's a master.
Her forgetting Craig was no big deal. He was talking to a guest one time about meeting celebrities and then forgetting that they were on his show. So he's done it. When promoting movies actors do tons of shows, so let it go, neophytes.
I feel like Jay and Craig were working in tandem here: Jay kept setting it up with leading questions, and Craig would knock it down with a witty remark upon Rose's reply. Almost like it was planned lol. Also, can we talk about how creative and gorgeous Jay's set is? I had completely forgotten, but it really puts all the current late night sets to shame. I mean the current Tonight Show set is flat-out boring, utilitarian garbage compared to this.
Leno is really struggling, its too much brain power for him, he doesnt have the mental agility to keep up. He is such an empty box....how does he get paid for being so mediocre...??
Craig is great at witty repartees, especially with women, not so much with men (ask Keanu), and he knows that making a fool of himself will help a guest that perhaps is tongue-tied or mired in some embarrassing hole in the conversation. You all know Jay, and not take any credit away from him but he had bigger ratings because he appealed to that mass market out there that was vacuuming the rug or making a late dinner while watching the show or if you asked them after the show was over, what was the show about, you'd get a shoulder shrug. OMG, that lap dance, he would be crucified and quartered if he'd do that now. Aaah, nostalgia. With Craig, you listened and had a smile at the end, maybe even smoked (figuratively) a cigarette in satisfaction.
in Australia, every word gets shortened and ends with -y. so 'barbecue' becomes barbie. 'sunglasses' becomes sunnies. aussies are weird. (even aussie is a shortened word)
I expect it was arranged ahead of time with Rose. I don't think Craig or Jay would do this without prior approval. And when Jay said, "Craig..." he jumped right up. Although she looked dazzled by the, ah, thorough nature of his attentions, she didn't seem surprised or shocked in general, and interacted with him calmly and cleverly right afterward.
There was no way Jay Leno was going to out perform Craig F, he's just too un-stifled by any norms, and his attempts to do so only made him look desperate. Thats what made Johnny Carson the king of late night- he would've just sit back and let things unravel to his amusement, which would position him as the alpha in the room.
