A journey from Jakarta Gambir to Yogyakarta on the express train 'Argo Dwipangga'. It cost about 283,000 rupiah, about $22. For times, fares & tickets see www.seat61.com/Indonesia.htm
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Without this video I would have never known Indonesia had railroads, let alone, nice stations and trains as shown in your delightful video. You are a great teacher ("The Silent Teacher") and cultural ambassador of good will. Please keep doing what you're doing.
I visited Yogyakarta in 2015 and after watching this, instead of flying return from Jakarta i wish i had taken this train one way, the sceneries is worth it
cris ty better when you take a train to Bandung from yogyakarta in the morning, spent a night in Bandung and continues using train to Jakarta. The landscape around is superb
He want to going to Yogyakarta, well Bandung is interesting too, and the next day he could take the morning train from Bandung to Yogyakarta. That landscape is more superb.
I was in Jakarta for Christmas when the terrible wave hit in the North, I transferred to Yogyakarta for New Year, but with a 4 hr. flight delay I should have gone by train a much better experience.
Mark, I saw you in another vlogger's video about the best train travels. I guess you should talk to your followers in the same way. You have a good voice and decent camera presence. My family owes our Bernina experience to you. Thanks so much!
I'm coming from indonesia. You have been to Indonesia too. I like the reports of trips you make by train, especially in Europe. hopefully one day I can try it.
@stephen kroll the train from Bandung to Yogyakarta is early morning so best to take train or shuttle from Jakarta to Bandung the day before, spend a night in Bandung, then the following day take the train to Yogyakarta. If we take the night train we won't see the view.
wow I did not expect you to visit Indonesia, I am following you because of your video train travel around Europe, if you can get through the southern cross railroad, starting from Yogya to Bandung with amazing panoramas and finish in Jakarta, I'm from Indonesia
Mehmed Bagusi It all comes down to money, my friend. Money for long flights and hotels in Indonesia. Your country has more interest for me than Vietnam or China.
My name is Anna i live in Indonesia today i went to railway station i took ticket then passport then up to platform and board the train in 09:30 all board! I seen the locomotive and coach stand in station then at field cross at smallest crossing over station stop at 10:00 i saw mountains then go above the hill than i was seen trees skipping then arrived at 11:30 and here is restaurant in train and here is food the train is go ahead is bridge arrived at more stop and i should i seen yellow commuter line then i say bye to train and go for tourist
Wow. Indonesian trains have come a long way since 1980! I remember wooden and rattan seats, and being able to stand in the vestibule and actually open the door and hang out!! This looks great. In Jogja, which exit from the train station is closest to the Tugu monument?
The only exit way is in the south side. North side just for departure and drop off which is closer to Tugu monument. But the pedestrian way is quite wide after renovation now.
I read your website, You really research and experienced so well about our train, ferry, and hotel also, give a lot information especially for foreign tourist , thanks sir but this video description is gone wrong is not Indoensia though hahaha
Mark smith please make video when you go with train EC hungaria from budapest keletibto prague central departure from budapest is 07:00 or more minutes i dont know right departure but pleade make it and please be in first class is too cool now
yes sure train names is sritanjung (economic train) and wijaya kusuma (executive) final destination is in banyuwangi baru station 100 m from Ketapang ferry harbor.
It varies from $10 on subsidize economy class (Progo and Bengawan train) until $40 on comfortable executive class (Argo Dwipangga/Lawu and Taksaka train). There is also a mid-range fare at around $20 on more comfortable economy plus and business class (Bogowonto, Senja/Fajar utama, Jayakarta train). Yes, there is some overnight trains from Jakarta, departs at 8 pm to 10 pm, from economy to executive class that can take you. It arrives between 3 am until 6 am at Yogyakarta.
I am hoping to get a train from Jakarta to Yogyakarta on the 6 June, during Ramadan. Will this be possible as the ticket sites online are keep declining my card?
Travelled on it a few times. The coach TVs are a pain in the backside and ruin the whole experience. Also the smell of food is overwhelming and stinks. It's may be an orient express but it's not the Orient Express. I hate being bombarded by background music, other people's music, and TVs, and announcements.
Klo lu naeknya eksekutif class ke jogja mayoritas emang bule klo dr jakarta krna dr soekarno destinasi mereka pasti ke bromo kr a promosi pariwisata Dr sana klo backpaker biasnya dr jogja auto cari bus jogja banyuwangi / jogja bali
There are 3 classes: Economy, Business, and Executive with different prices. This is approximation from Jakarta-Jogjakarta: Economy 12 hrs, Business 10 hrs, Executive 7 hrs. For comfort please choose the expensive Executive class (around 20-25 US dollars) you won't regret it. Go to tiket.com for reservation or seat61.com for the tips.
+Kristelle I am from Jogjakarta but now living out of town let me help you. As far as I know it's the beginning of rainy season which lasts until April. Usually rain falls not regularly in the beginning but will change to downpour in mid-Oct. Be ready with an umbrella or a rain coat which you can buy in Indonesia/Jogjakarta; they're cheaper. As in any tropical country the rain may last for a couple of hours then stops,. Basically it rarely lasts until 5 hours or more. I usually spend Christmas holiday there and rains most often fall in the evening although it also happens in the day. The highest rain occurrence is in December-February. Bring some medication from your country to prevent cold, cough, fever, etc. for preparation.
+Kristelle There's a new executive sleeper's train starting from June 2018 but I don't know which route has the service since it's still quite new. The facility is almost similar to Business Class in a flight with touch screen TV and reclining bed. There's only one sleeper's coach serving long-distance route, such as Jakarta-Surabaya and Jakarta-Malang. The ticket costs roughly US$ 70-100 so I hope seat61.com has updated the info.
