@@HiHello-ku1fl nope, his real ones are different from the ones you can buy. He talked about that on a podcast. Ebony fretboard and rosewood(?) Or walnut(?) Neck. Can't remember but not like the store ones.
I'd really like to know what the serial number is on his Prescription Electronics Experience pedal is. I've had a few but the early RED/YELLOW/FIRE ones are really special. I've actually had 2 at the same time. From my understanding Prescription Electronics Inc. ( Jack Brossart ) is no longer producing pedals
@@monmixer You don't have a clue what he has and neither do I..I do know one thing, he didn't get his what he had coming from writing Ozzy's most successful music.
@@ryant3600 Jake on BATM, made me get a guitar and learn to play, but I will never forget the opening riff on that Badlands debut. Seriously overlooked album. Too bad it can not be re-released.
@@ryant3600 agree. While it’s fantastic that so many people appreciate Jake for BATM, those two Badlands albums are where he really peaked. Fantastic playing and he was playing the style he loved.
@@macheted01 yeah Randy made me want a guitar of course I was like 9 when he died And I started listening to him in 82 but it was Jake that made pick up that guitar everyday and want to actually learn how to play. Not taking anything from Randy he’s my all time favorite like I said he inspired me to get a guitar but When I got a guitar Jake and BATM had come out and his playing just grabbed me.
Jake has been and still is my favorite ozzy guitarist after Randy was killed. His guitars on Bark at the moon and ultimate sin are killer. He also had the whole look down on stage.
@@scottpauline-mi3wj Better than Zakk Wylde - ouch. Words no guitarist ever wanted to hear. It's like telling my wife she's better looking than the rock.
Jake used to come to my music store in Hunting Beach California in the mid 90's and buy tons of pedals. He would audition them at very low volume in our sound room. He would return a few weeks later and trade a bunch back in and get more. I think the Experience pedal on his board may have come from my store? We sold a lot of Prescription Electronics. Anyway he was a great guy to do business with and I still have one of his solo CD's he handed to me around 1995. Fantastic player and always a great tone!
@@livingbeing1113 Hear that Brent? I've found this idiot on the internet who is going to offer you at least $2.50 - Yeah he's haggling upwards. I don't even want commission.
I got to see him on the ozzy tour for bark at the moon he was stellar .. and to tell you how really cool and a good guy he was back then .. I ran to the car for a sharpie with my tour book and came back to the arena back door in Kansas city .. I had just missed him coming out to sign and speak to people so i took the bull by the horns and thought why not .. just try it .. so i knocked on the door where i could see him through the window ... he turned around and i used my finger to motion him over and he came out again and he signed my book and chatted with me and i got a photo with him .. he was really nice ..
@@Stashman95-r1g Screwed on Bark over writing credits and royalties($), screwed on Sin by shit mix/recording/engineering w/e but def NOT Jake's playing.
Always so admirably humble! If you weren't aware of Jake's tremendous ability, you probably wouldn't assume that he's the giant talent he is, judging from his soft spoken demeanor. So refreshing! No arrogant rock star attitude here. You're awesome Jake!
When I saw Jake at my first Ozzy show I was blown away. Randy had recently passed and all the guitar kids in my neighborhood were skeptical. After that concert everyone was in their bedrooms working on Bark at the Moon! Jake is a huge part of Rock History and it's so cool to see him still kicking ass...and there's Badlands too!
Jake is literally old school rock and roll as it gets and I love it! His inventiveness and just letting it all hang out is why he is my favorite of all time.. I wish I could still play a 100 watt Marshall in the bedroom.. My parents hated me growing up and so did the neighbors.
When I was 20 I had my own flat and I was blasting our some Sabbath Riffs and leads . My upstairs neighbour smashed in my front door with a hammer and I never even heard it getting smashed because the 100watt Marshall amp was up full and being overdrive like crazy with my Ibanez overdrive, such a great pedal even now.
That’s why I love attenuators. You can get cranked amp tone at reasonable volumes, and your neighbors won’t re-enact The Shining with your front door haha
Jake is such an amazing guitar player, I think everyone should learn bark at the moon (actually all of his songs) it's much, much harder to play than it sounds and you learn so much. Was a big change in my guitar playing
Thank you!!!! Jake E Lee is a household name in my house! That guy has given me and mine more enjoyment than he will ever know. I absolutely love his work. Thank you again!
@@MrJackal43 It runs in the family! Sharon learned from the best as Her father ( Don Arden) fucked The Small Faces and many other British bands out of millions. She & her dirt bag father are pure trash.
Jake E lee just got shot while walking his dogs. October 15th on a Tuesday early after noon, I was just playing bark at the moon ending solo and main riff cover YESTERDAY. such a cool cat get well soon Jake!
Saw him with Badlands back in the day. Dude had a broken leg and absolutely killed it with a sift cast on. Throwing that leg around like it was a sack of potatoes. LEGEND
As a 50 year old dude, i've always loved Jake E. Lee. John, you're quite a cool brother as well. Coffee is on me. Its nice to see someone conducting the interview, who's respectful, and know's their stuff. I really enjoyed this segment. Go team-older fellas!☺🙏👍
About time...met him way back when... he has always been humble like this... I will always support his efforts...he earns everything he gets...big respect for him...loves his peeps....
I feel sorry for Jake E Lee, he's an awesome guitar player, awesome song writer, and an awesome guy, who has been playing for 40 years and will never know the thrill of headlining a gig in my bedroom.
Jake NEVER got the credit he deserved for basically saving Ozzy's career. If Ozzy had of chosen a sub-par guitarist after Randy that would have been the end of it imho. Jake came in and wrote an incredible follow-up album and kept the train a rolling. He had a completely unique sound in an era where it was almost impossible to sound unique. Sharon fucked him big time and my heart will always go out to Jake for his place in metal guitar history.
@Logan Wilder I agree it definitely works both ways. But think about what you just said. If Jake didnt land the gig he ends up a nobody. If Ozzy doesnt land a great guitarist, what happens to him? Who had more to lose? Jake had NOTHING to lose, Ozzy had EVERYTHING to lose if it didnt work out. Ozzy benefitted way more than Jake in this scenario. Dont get me wrong it was the gig of a lifetime for Jake. But Ozzy is still going TODAY so who benefitted more from the relationship?
Jake saved Ozzy's career in the 80s, and gave him his first platinum's record with The Ultimate Sin. Ozzy was obviously a big name and already established, first with Black Sabbath, then with the "Blizzard Of Ozz" band that became Ozzy Osbourne solo act, thanks to great musicians like Bob Daisley, Randy Rhoads and Lee Kerslake. But it's with Jake E Lee that Ozzy reached immortal status as a metal/rock's god, that time in the early 80s, after Rhoads unfortunate death, when metal and shredding exploded, was a live or die situation for Ozzy, Jake came in and saved his career, just writing the Bark At The Moon single alone.
George Lynch was lined up to be the next guitar player after Randy. He had been touring with ozzy for free, hanging with the guitar tech. Jake came along with long hair and a leather jacket and got the job or from under him. He was the lesser player, self admitted... But he had the look. I think ozzy and Sharon made the right choice tho in the end. Although in a very shitty way
Saw Jake for the first time in 83 at the US fest. Everyone was in suspense, cause he was filling some big shoe's. Jake came out and blew everyone's mind. Just nailed the sh**. Awesome guy and player. Respect.
Ozzy has said he thought Jake was a better overall guitar player than Randy . Randy did the same boring classical runs over and over and over he wasn't very good at rhythm playing . He was adequate but George Lynch was much better at rhythm and Eddie was by far head and shoulders above both of them.
He's a lovely guy i met him in 1992 after a Badlands show in Bristol U.K ( still have his pick) i was a fan right back to the mid 80s when i first heard Ultimate Sin and Bark at the Moon. Randy and Jake were my favourite Ozzy guitarists.
People say Jake E Lee and many others are the most underrated guitarists. If you’re still making music and people search for you on RU-vid... YOU’VE MADE it! God bless Jake for sticking to his style and tone.
I met him at the Iridium in NY. What a champ. Such a nice person and he loved and signed my guitar. I offered to build him a guitar and he accepted. Cant wait to deliver it to him. Everyone in the band is great. Darren (the lead singer) is too funny. I bumped into him in Manhatten. The drummer Phil is a comedian...
I will never forget first time i saw Ozzy/ Jake live on tv , it was the marathon gala from Dortmund Germany1983 (Also Maiden , Judas ,Leppard + others, That was mindblowing !!!
Matte Wennberg That was great!I love Jake e lee and he was amazing but the guy that amazed me the most at the Dortmund gala was Michael Schenker.Jävlar va impad man va.Fina minnen :)
Jake knows his tech stuff. Not everyday we can hear what he has to say about his gear. Now He is always my favourite for music, guitar and attitude. Now, where is Paul’s comment about the mystery pedal?
3 minutes in I liked this vid, he's just the funniest and humblest guy ever, and boy did he provide me with some ultra-tasty riffs to munch at for days on end
Jake was the guitarist in a band called Teaser when I was a lad in the late 70's. Strat through a Hiwatt loud as hell at Strait Ahead Sound in San Diego. Me right in front stealing every lick I could. One of the reasons I started playing. Nice guy too.
One of the best guitar players of my youth. Always loved the blue burst ever since I first saw it on the Ultimate Sin video. He's been passed over for much of rock guitar's recognition. Jake always stood out as unique among a sea of copy cat hair metal guitarists. Love ya, Jake! \m/
Jake is one of my all-time favorites! His work on BATM got me interested in guitar and his Badlands material was stellar, just crazy hard rockin blues guitar! He also had a bigger then life stage presence while staying very humble.
Yup, & I'd say with even more certainty that the original line up with Bob D. was truly a "world class" rock band. Nearly every bar of those 1st 2 albums kicks some seriously tasty ass.
@Ross Moriarty In those few short hours alone that thankfully did get recorded lies all of the evidence one could ever need. But of course "better" is always subjective to a large extent in the end. I did always find it odd just how many people missed the bus regarding those 1st 2 "Ozzy" albums, & not just RR Vs. whoever but the quality of the "band" itself.
I "met" Jake many years ago standing in line for the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland in California. It was a very busy day and the line took quite a while. For my friends and I it flew by because we were MASSIVE fans of his. We were besides ourselves with glee. We were respectful but just couldn't stop staring. He was with his wife and daughter and he was kind of "reserved." No problem. He looked exactly like his pictures. After a while we simply had no choice but to ENGAGE lol!! Just a little hero worship that could no longer be contained! :) He didn't say much, but his daughter was a sweetie and she kept saying something about "I drew the picture." We didn't know exactly what she meant, but she was wearing a cute kind of wizard hat as I remember. Fast forward a little and we saw EXACTLY what she meant when we saw the inner design on the Badlands cd. A super charming little drawing. There it WAS!! I have met a ton of famous people over the years, (I used to work at Chateau Marmont) but THE coolest experience was getting to be around this man for a period time. I can't say enough about his profoundly underrated status in the echelon of players. Listen to his work on anything and you will realize that he just doesn't sound like ANYONE else. So frickin' tasteful and nuanced, even when he is blazing away. And the TONE!!! Best to Jake and all the fans of the era. Great interview by the way and THANK YOU for it. :)
From using carbon based 9v batteries in germanium fuzzes to placing them before any buffered pedal, I learned a lot from this vid. Jake is one of the most underrated guitarists there are!
In 1992 my band practiced at Mates in Burbank / N. Hollywood. Badlands was rehearsing there as well. THE LOUDEST guitarist I've ever experience up close. In a tiny room too. The kinda volume pressure where fight or flight starts kicking' in teeth rattling insane shit. Loved it.
Jake has been my favorite guitarist for forever. The thumb technique, which is not easy by the way, really put a staple in setting him apart from other guitarist. And the idea of bends with no whammy bar,,,incredible. A true inspiration to the phrase, " dare to be different. " Awesome !!
Jake is so laid back and cool. Would love to meet that dude after a gig have a beer and listen to some stories. And his playing is the best, blues on FIRE!!
Love All the 80's Ozzy guitar player's, love Randy and Zakk but 'a think Jake is probably me favourite out of the 3, Bark at the Moon is probably my all time favourite riff
Total legend anyone who had to follow in Randy' s footsteps and pull it off like he did and still sound and make a name for himself deserves more than he got from the Osbourne camp👍
I knew Jake E. way back in his Teaser days at the Straight-ahead Sound rock 'n' roll dance club in San Diego. I used to call him Jake Van Halen, on the occasions that I would run into him, since he covered Van Halen's licks so perfectly. I think that he used to cover Sails of Charon, by the Scorpions, at those shows as well. Great times! Wish I could transport back there. Good to see you still doin' it well Jake. Rock on! Side note: Craig Goldy & Warren DiMartini were hanging around that area as well. Playing in their respective cover-bands. I knew them all. Just couldn't put down the coke and drink long enough to get anything started for myself.
One of my favorite guitarists, I can totally relate to the arthritis, after over 25 years of playing you need reinvent the way you play, but never stop playing.....
The lead guitarist for steel Panther mentioned the arthritis thing and I think Dokken’s lead guitarist has some sort of disease that affects his hands. But they still keep playing.
@@latsnojokelee6434 I just got to the point in my career that I feel comfortable and confident in my playing, that John 5 or Nuno level. then last month I broke my middle and index left fingers. Ugh, sucks I have months of rehab ahead of me and I hope I get back to where I was prior the the accident...
I love trapeze tailpieces for that exact reason, knowing the sweet spots when playing the behind the bridge stuff can really add some cool harmonics to your sound
I learned more in the time it took to watch this than 30 years of playing. Jake is the true rockstar! Deserves everything good he earned along the way! Sharon needs to pay the man now!
I was 2nd row in DC for that tour, same as you, on Jake's side of the stage, and he was phenomenal! He ruled that stage like a proper Rock Star! What was also really amazing, was that he did all of Randy's dives just by bending the neck!! (Or at least, that's what I could tell, and remember.)
Saw Jake on the Ultimate Sin Tour and spent the whole show watching him from about 5ft away. He was just mesmerising. He inspired me to play guitar and cannot thank him enough for the pleasure it has brought me. The intro to killer of giants ge5s me everytime!
I came into this cold, I knew the name but didn't immediately place who he played with and I don't really know his work but I really enjoyed it, clearly doesn't take himself too seriously and was happy to share.
thank you so much John! I saw Jake play Whitey and the purple Charvel and the blue one back in 86 with Ozzy one of the best guitar performances I've ever seen and I seen everybody but Hendrix thank you once again Jake E Lee🤘
