I shot this clip of Jakob Nowell(Bradley Nowells Son) at Westminster Memorial Park. Jakob is playing Bradley's acoustic guitar, featured on the Sublime Acoustic CD..For those of you who weren't here to see this, you missed out. Jakob has an amazing voice and talent. Jim Nowell, Janie Nowell, and Nancy Watilo are to the left chatting by the cars!

I 1st saw this video 11 years ago and never left a comment. It's 7/24, and seeing this for the 2nd time as Jakob is now the lead singer of Sublime. Many people will compare Jakob to his dad and have mixed feelings about it. These people need to just sit back and relax and enjoy the music of Sublime 🌞

How disappointed are you? I will always love Brad, Eric, Bud and Louie. This kid is remarkably underwhelming. Wtf? Brad was a punk rock/surf/skate/house party icon. Jakob has become some sort of pretentious incel hipster clown.

For real this is very touching and Bradley son seen very humble, subdue, and talented. It is VERY TOUCHING! I had to hear it a couple of times. The saddness, the pain, and the passion in his singing of this song is what really bring this clip to a another level.

Some people just don't get it. Music isn't about proficiency it's about feel, about bringing together people during hard times and this is a man who has experienced terrible loss but not forgotten who his father was and what that means to him. I thought it was beautiful.

adamlikegrip Listen, Jakob is a huge talent.. But he never knew his dad.. Bradley died when Jakob was 11 months old... Unfortunately, he only knows about his dad through his music, and stories he's told by other people... RIP Bradley..
@soberveganhipster

Voxel Skull You've missed my point. You don't have to have met someone to know who they were metaphorically. He has a very rich back catalogue of music to delve into and B wore his heart on his sleeve, that was the point I was making.

He seems like such a nice young man. Cant believe it's almost 17 years since Brad's death. I remember I'd just graduated from 10th grade. That summer I bought the Sublime cassette. My group of friends & I would cruise around stoned, blasting that tape w/my good system.(12" subs, etc) So we'd all be jamming out...then Pawn Shop came on...THAT was our song. We'd all shut up, sit still, & just listen closely to it. I play(ed) guitar, so I really loved the playing. *sigh* Miss those days. RIP Brad

Wow thank you for posting this! My heart goes out to Jakob, I can't imagine the pain of living without knowing your father. I can hear his father in him, incredible. Love the passion. Love Nancy too, she is one of the coolest ladies I have ever met. Are you close with the family? I've been to their house a few times and need to get back on track learning to read music so we can move onto some real piano lessons. Life has gotten me distracted once again, but hearing Jakob play that song has motivated me to get back on it. Passion is important, business can wait. Thanks again brother.

This kid could go on stage and bang two burritos together in front of Eric and Bud and it would mean more than having Rome play with them. No offense to Rome, it's just that you can't beat the seed of the king. A new incarnation of Sublime with Jakob is the only right thing to do. And it NEEDS to happen, if not to preserve and celebrate Brad's legacy, to remind us what it is to witness true love in music.
@johnnyguitar108
@johnnyguitar108 8 лет назад
Sublime is dead. Jakob wont change that. He doesnt sound like brad and probably cant play the music all that well
@howdy3751
@howdy3751 8 лет назад
JohnnyGuitar I don't think Bud and/or Eric would agree that Sublime is dead, considering they're both still playing and touring together under that nom de plume. And Jakob may or may not end up as a great overall musician like his father, but that's not the point, which WAS the point of my original comment. His most clumsy effort would be, at the very least, a meaningful show of respect to his father, Bud and Eric, and the fans. If he were to give a SINCERE effort to get to a place where he could do something as serious as fronting the band it WOULD change EVERYTHING. To say it wouldn't is tantamount to trolling, which would make you someone who isn't a fan, which makes your opinion irrelevant.

Appears that this was recorded at the gravesite on the anniversary of Brad's death; Jakob seemed to have trouble not breaking down. And think of the song choice. Would be awesome to see him able to play with with Eric and Bud, I really think Jake could pick up where his father tragically ended, and the band could truly be called Sublime again. Just pick up exactly at the point that it all came to a crashing halt on May 25, 1996. The band could have been so much more, and it still can.
