No doubt, the PNP party was founded by visionaries with genuine and noble goals to uplift Jamaica and the Jamaican people. One can’t deny that Norman Manley and those around him fought for equality and justice and so did Michael Manley. Somewhere down the line, however, things got tainted. Truth be told the role of some PNP officials (also some from the JLP) in bringing in the high powered guns into the country that ushered in the mass scale violence we face today should not have been ignored.
Norman Manley fought against Marcus Garvey, he never wanted Garvey's body to be buried in Jamaica.. Michael had the vision but did not have the ability to implement them , so he end up wrecking a good economy. Michael Manley father once said that Michael could not run a fowl coop and he proved his father right.
Mr.Manley was indeed the real deal, but his hands were tied from the beginning. He was merely paraded before the people; a type of 'symbol of hope' . Much like the 'white jesus' figure. England gave the people what they wanted. 'The queen' is still the head of State(of affairs) in little Jamaica; while our leaders play, the real strings are pulled by America and England.

Manley had a good vision for jamaica i dont understand why America block Manley from bringing democratic socialism to jamaica when America itself is a democratic socialism country they have the welfare system medicade and social security that is socialism what was wrong with free education and free health care
as a 22 years old male living in 2018 jamaica. i didn't have this experience. if that was the PNP back in the pass i would love if that same attitude would come back into the system. but as for now the PNP is plunging us into poverty and there are less than 10% opportunity for the youth of jamaica.... it hurt me that i have to turn to another country to better my life.....thank you for sharing this video

Growing up your hear stories and being apart of a staunch P. N. P family it's interesting to watch about its inception.. I believe the Politics of today is vastly different from its beginnings.. while a two party system is what works in most democracies I believe a third party is needed for the purpose of checks and balances, and accountability.

Instead of blaming Jamaican political parties, blame the global empires that exists. Jamaicans didn't realize that they were moving out from under the shrinking shadow of the British empire to be brutally taken in under the U.S. empire. I left Jamaica in 1973 if I had seen this documentary before I may have a different outlook on my country and its relationships with the United States.
They will rise and I will help them till my death. They deserve to be empowered and liberated then to have a stable position in the global economy off their own merit but we must unite and gather for change.

As much as I love Michael Manley for his charismatic aura and his ability to challenge any leader in the world he let his ego get in the way of what was important to Jamaica , stability and a good relationship with America ,he befriending Cuba ' angering America in the belief that Jamaica could stand up to them and tried to change the economy overnight instead of gradual change . The state of Jamaica today is a direct result of his mismanagement .

Michael Manley had a lot of good ideas, but he had many wolves in his party that did not share his visions. They were there for an opportunity to stuff their pockets. A remember they ha to do all these things under the overarching eyes of white supremacy in the nation and international geopolitical scene. The help, they tried many things but they were the party of the rich but, did not pay enouh attention to the poor. Those that say their children shouldn't go to should with the children of the maid, So they were for businesses but did not really represent the interest of the poor, who was the majority. So they were always manipulate into voting against their interest. Too much hungry wolves, interested only in filling their hungry bellies, all big talk, did not full the belly of the poor. Now I see they are making great strides representing the people, but still fighting corruption.

The PNP under Norman Manley had continued the developments started by the Bustamante's adult suffrage administration, effected a revolution in education with the Common Entrance, took new directions in youth development and secured greater earnings from the bauxite industry. It all went downhill after 1972. Michael Manley polarised the society and destroyed the economy in the name of socialism. When the PNP returned to office in 1989 as neo-socialists, the economy was destroyed in a mixture of corruption and ignorance of economic management . The worst years of our lives after 1972 follow closely the PNPs years in office because every PNP administration since 1972 has been a disaster
