It's certainly much easier to talk about the positive things. However, I don't want to be one sided and blamed for hiding away from the difficult topics. Just because I love Jamaica it doesn't mean it's perfect. Yet, every single imperfection makes Jamaica .. Jamaica. In the last few days so many people subscribed to my channel because they enjoyed the video on 10 reasons I love Jamaica... Thank you SO MUCH for the support and so many kind words! It takes an outsider to appreciate what we have, since growing in paradise makes it hard to admire when grow so accustom it. Keep up the good work.👀🇯🇲👀🇯🇲👀🇯🇲👀🇯🇲
With this video I simply spoke of the everyday problems we experience in Jamaica. What you had to go through is way beyond what can be called "a problem". Your situation is a tragedy and a serious one. Unfortunately, you are not alone - hundreds of children all around the world (both: girls and boys) had to go through sexual abuse and it is not related to any country in particular, but directly related to some horrendous people. Have you tried finding professional psychological help?
@@patheirbrown4158 Thank you so much for this feedback and such detailed message. So much appreciated. And yes, education problem is the core. Do you have ideas how this can be improved?

This lady deserves an award from Jamaica Tourist Board and a job from the Ministry of Tourism you have done so much on your platform. Very informative and educational you need to be recognized.
I have respect for your constructive criticism of Jamaica, it is good to embrace the good things, but it’s also good to highlight the downsides as well to keep the balance in check. 👍🏽
When Jamaicans went to Britain on the WIndrush 1948 they had a hard time but they settled en Masse in Brixton and started buying up every house in the borough., I was invited to a house party in Brixton by a friend and the music was loud. The Cops came to the door at around midnight and said that the neighbours were complaining about the noise. My host told the Cops that nobody is complaining about the noise because Jamaicans own every house on the street.
I’m Jamaican and I hated when this one neighbor would have party on the weekend big party at dat my little room would shake from the loudness 😤 worst part I wasn’t even interested in the parties. Some would even stand right next to the big ole box.......😃😃😃
LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 When she spoke on the Jamaican that can be a plumber, a mechanic, a tour guide, etc gave me a memory of, "In Living Color". Jamaicans can do it all.
BUT I hope that all of us learn the lesson of what she is saying here. I like your name Charmin Truesdale. It does not make sense if we are not learning the important lessons from her. She is going to prosper when we continue to languish. Let us be up and doing. We are without excuse.

#7 Classism is real. You should have been more specific and don't be shy and hide the truth. As a Jamaican, classism in Jamaica, is well-to-do black people looking down on less fortunate black people. Even in our political system.
yes, it's true, but I need to study this deeply before I can talk more about it. This problem is not as simple as the "rich" hate the "poor" and vice versa. There are a lot of layers, and it's VERY difficult to give a balanced, well-researched information about the situation, since its origins are in 400 years of slavery and in how exactly this "class system" got established after the abolition of slavery. I do want to get into this problem in detail eventually when I understand it better!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE This Class system is common among all cultures and communities. It is no different in Jamacia than any other. Just because slavery was abolished means nada when the 'have and the have nots' bump heads. The origin of the class system, please, is not Jamacian. Every country on earth has this hierachy issue and always will. Can you imagine what American black folk had to endure after slavery was over here? All kinds of craziness and we still deal with that garbage daily amidst the toxicity of not even being considered 'human' and equal to some. Yes, its alive and well. Please don't 'study' us, sick of being under the microscope and this class stuff has been earthly since man has been created. We know the deal..
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE In Jamaica classism and colorism go hand in hand. Take a general look at what Uptown versus Downtown people in Kingston look like. Take a look at what most wealthy Jamaicans look like. Yes, the residuals of slavery, colonialism / white supremacy are real. Lucky you. You get to be in Jamaica and enjoy privileges that many native Jamaicans will never enjoy just because of the colour of your skin.
Hello Irena your expose of problems of living in Jamaica is a good primer of factual things ech visitor should know, I am a Jamaican and my wife was American and she loved Jamaica and Jamaica loved her. She spent 35years with me in Jamaica before she died in 2010. Before she died she said "Richard I would never exchange one of those days Jamaicaa for anything in the world, you were always working but I had a Ball." RIP She knew how to live and she loved Jamaica and Jamaica loved her.

Mainly because as you said everyone that are well educated or a specialist leave for better opportunity . I love Jamaica and i hope i can follow my heart and move back to home so i can help open up the minds to these issues
You should. I plan on doing the same. Left when I was 13, thought I was moving to paradise... & it was, but now I see things differently. If we all keep leaving, how will our little Island with so much potential prosper?
Spot on. I had to laugh as you went through the list. You deliver them eloquently, respectfully and truthfully. Keep up the good work Irina. I'm enjoying all your videos. One Love.

I can't really differentiate between the different accents/dialects, except for Cubans. Many speak English with Jamaican accents. In Jamaica, people segregate, by wealth/ economic class but mix socially amongst the different classes and races. Many of today's wealthy Jamaicans, 2 or 1 generation ago, were from farming or lower income communities they try to act as though they weren't. Lol 😆
We as Jamaican overseas talk about the same problems in Jamaica all the time BUT what I like about your video is that you actually discuss the issues that brought about these problems in the first place. They say for every action there is a reaction... we could turn the saying around ... every behavior is caused because of a problem... and these issues are not unique to just Jamaica, it’s the same across the whole world. I’ve tried to analyzed the cause for many of the issues myself and concluded that it’s unfair to compare a relaxed and laidback, warm island, to a cold(most of the time) fast paced, working all time place, such as the US.

Thanks Irina for a very balanced view. I laughed as Ive experienced all these and more in my 16yr return after 40yrs in a fridge. Though I was born and grew up here, I was unprepared for some of the changes encountered; especially finding competent local tradesmen and the lack of honesty; not on your top10, i note. I rolled on the floor laughing when you mentioned popping into the bank, tax office and police station all in matter of minutes (let alone a day)...that, my friend, is three day odyssey into Jamaican bureaucracy with an eye opening sidelook at Jamaican customer service. I grew up in Jamaica but spent my college years and beyond in the US. Spot on list...esp the noise level at a party - experienced that myself (but I know not to go over there and tell them to turn down the music!) and I must say most Jamaican houses are not soundproof!
😂😂😂 love this video. Life is smooth for me most time because I have links when I'm in Jamaica, I always know a guy who knows a guy. I do feel guilty sometimes because ppl wake up early to go to bank and hospitals etc and spend the entire day there. And I just pop in and pop out

Chevan, LOL....Well, you do have quite a lot of "Family helping Family" people in Jamaica...but you also have the "Bad Mind" one dem also. But another aspect of "helping each other" is: In Country Villages where I grew up, people helping each other all the time. That is one of the GREATEST THINGS I love about Jamaica (at least, the part I grew up in). But in my back and forth travels since moving to the USA in 1981, I do see a lot of Jamaicans helping each other out. I think we are a "KINDER" set of people, overall, than is perceived

I am already looking forward to next Sunday just to see your new video. Again this one was right on point. What you do on your videos is NOT done by a lot of Jamaican RU-vidrs. You give perspective and put things in contexts and it just shows you can be successful by doing just that. Regarding one of your topic, the one about food cost. I do believe there is a void/niche for an Aldi type Supermarket in Jamaica that can offer locally made groceries and produce at an affordable price.
Not going lie I was getting ready to say everyone talks about it because I "assumed" that the list would be based on crime. Well done you hit the nail right on the head.
Thank you! I was hoping to draw people's attention to the everyday issues people are going through in Jamaica, whether big or small, because they are usually ignored due to too much media focus on crime.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE Got my attention. Its my opnion that Jamaica needs to start to really look outside the box to really fix a generational problem. Hi. As a Jamaican I can surely say that these people who have loud and vulgar parties in the middle of the night simply has no respect for anybody and are just selfish in every respect. I usually say they have no jobs to go to in the morning.

You’re quite right. It’s always best to weight the pros and cons in order to make a fair assessment of any situation. Oh, we love sweet sweet Jamaica but yes, the problems are there.
Irie, a fitting name for you living in Jamaica? How did you sell relocating to Jamaica to your spouse? I am Antiguan🇦🇬 woman living in Atlanta , GA. I visited Jamaica 4 years ago, and found myself, over the last few days, expressing how much I want to return to island living-specifically- in Jamaica. My family looked at me as though I had horns growing out of m head. To hear you touch on so many responses to questions I have been asking myself, is uncanny. You are very insightful, pragmatic, and conscientious! Keep the vlogs coming. They are quite informative
When a Jamaican writes "white man" on your laundry receipt as a way of identifying you when you return to collect your clothes it will be because they get very few white customers and it is in fact a way of attaching great importance to the customer in the eyes of the proprietor. The fact that a white person turned up to use their services is of great importance to them so it is marked by identifying you as a colour or color if you prefer. There will be people reading this who will disagree and tell you your race doesn't matter in Jamaica. It doesn't and it didn't when "white man" was being written on the receipt. But even though independence was in 1962 a colonial mentality still persists and while Jamaicans no longer will think of white people as "better" than them they still attach importance to white people using their businesses. Another reason of course is white people (except in very rare circumstances)will have money that the businesses will be keen to get their hands on will often try to offer other services that are not their primary service to you. So to sum up.It's because they regard you as important that "white man"was written on your receipt.
You are spot on lady! If the egotistical politicians look at your analysis of these problems, solutions wouldn’t come overnight, but over time. Although most of those in charge are so called educated, they still suffer from the residues of colonialism. They are not new and independent thinkers so they cannot even begin to think like you! Those problems and solutions will only begin to resolve when Jamaica go back to the drawing board with a new breed of thinkers.
On the point of time. When I was last there I when to KFC and realised fast food isn't fast. About an hours later I left with the food. It wasn't even for me. I was very frustrated but learnt very quickly.
ahaha... well, KFC is VERY popular in Jamaica and it's never fast :)))) The real "fast food" can be found in local cafes, where you get local "box food", curry goat, chicken + rice and peas etc. 😊😋
Sorry but the KFC in Jamaica was not nice - maybe I was unlucky but both times I ate Kfc - it was horrible and not worth the hour’s wait! And the staff were terrible .... Jamaicans are not known for their manners and I learned the hard way! Very disappointing as my origins are Jamaican.
@@sparkles1260 the funny thing is that it wasn't even for me. Then the next day my daughter wanted KFC. I had to do it all over again. I was more patient the second time. ;-)
Cost of living in Jamaica is brutal. If you look at what a housing unit cost, what groceries cost and compare those to a minimum wage, then you notice that it's absolutely criminal what happens here. Housing costs in areas safe from gang violence, are dumbfoundingly astronomical. Also the duty charged on items imported makes having anything for the average jamaican almost twice as expensive as the average north american.
Irie, irie! Subscription to your channel justified. I find it to be true and most often effective when fresh eyes peruse an established existing landscape. You are on point, and you did so without bias. @@JAMAICAWITHIRIE Irie I will watch the recommended video because I didn't see it. There are 2 spots of the same restaurant on Port Royal. One is an enclosed space that looks like someone's house from the outside. The other location is at the end of a short block by the police station. This location is many times bigger and therefore more patronized. I recommend going with company to pass the time because you are likely to wait to be seated and for the meal to be served. However, if you like seafood as much as I do, it is worth the wait. The food is fresh off the fishermen's boats from Port Royal and other port towns like Port Henderson and Rae Town. The food is very good. The name is GLORIA'S. They're both dine-in facilities but choose the bigger one. It is closer to the sea, very close actually, and the atmosphere is nicer. There is an upstairs dining area above the kitchen, and there is ground level space set up under a large tent.
What about the NO SEES 🦟 I always have the worst time with them. Dwl if I live there I wouldn’t build a fence to keep thief’s out I would net up every window to keep the mosquitoes out 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I loved your clear and concise delivery and your realistic assessment of the Fear of crime. However I think your assessment of Classism and Racism needs to be more nuanced. Our Colonial past has always linked Class and Race and still exists today. For example as a black professional in the tourism heartland of Jamaica, I found it a challenge at times competing with other recently arrived white expatiates with less experience than I, in the market-place.
