No one said he didn’t accomplish his goals. They said in the history of the draft, he’s the biggest bust. That doesn’t have anything to do with his personal goals. He was drafted to lead a franchise and he failed tragically without even trying. He’s one of the worst busts in sports history
@@casteine It doesn't matter how you talk in college, a 6'5" 260 lb athlete is gonna blow those kids away. Russell was another example of thinking college success translates to talent, when it doesn't. Even someone Russell's size with more athleticism, like Newton, isn't gonna have a prolonged and successful NFL career without talent and ability.
@@derickvera573 No, he just had size and athleticism. That makes a QB that can outrun all the college big guys and run over all the college DBs until somebody gets open and so he LOOKS talented, but like a lot of guys he gets to the NFL where the LBs are faster than college DBs and the DBs hit harder than college DTs and he can't do anything.
It's a channel called flemlo he did a really good video explaining Russells story. To be honest he was legendary from 9th grade to the NFL. Raw talent. His story is a good one
There's a saying that goes, "you have to be really good to be really bad." Basically, no one would have given him the chance to be terrible if he wasn't great before all of that.
@@Romanlegion1990not really. You’re really diminishing the barrier to entry to get to the NFL. Much less go number one overall. Just cause you don’t pan out once you get there doesn’t take away anything what you did to get there.
@@MrGmoneygreg In his case it does. Once he “made it” to the NFL he quit. His goal was to be a millionaire and he achieved that. The guy never tried in the NFL, he stayed high and winged in games. So many NFL horror stories about this guy.
No matter how you slice it, being labeled a bust is not anything to be proud of. No one respects you like that. Being prideful about that really says something about a man's character.
If me u or some other average Joe said it then it would be pretty crazy. This man finessed the Raiders he’s paid for life his kids & grandkids paid for life. Helluva businessman. Congrats Jamarcus I wish I was a bust like u
Nah. He committed the biggest legal robbery in history. He even told the NFL teams that he was in it for a bag then walking. Got the bag immediately. Walked. They called his bluff and lost.
Leaf does need to be up there.. he was #2 pick but has way more losses, less pasing yards and lower rating. But being #1 and trash is TRASH. His ability wasnt trash. He was the biggest disappointment. No effort, no studying, sipping syrup.. legendary
@@PBMdanya yes it is. Prove me otherwise??????? He’s literally the reason. Bro was the biggest scammer/fraud in this history of rookie QBs sorry you can’t comprehend that. Low IQ.
If you never seen him play you not gonna understand how terrible that team was his o line garbage and the expectations were hella crazy they wanted a big mike vick with arm but his game just never flourished it really was the raiders fault if you know u know
That’s normally how it goes. The worst team gets the first overall pick and there is gonna be big expectations for a first overall selection. Nothing against Jamarcus personally but it’s a reason no other teams looked his way after he got released by the raiders. The work ethic just wasn’t there
🤦🏽 He's talking real stuff with straight men, why you have to say pause to what he said when he was talking in context about Football and if he was a bust...I hope you're under 21 saying Pause for just answering a question
That's true, but also sort of the point. Guys like him, athletically gifted, have a huge leap over most people. He worked hard absolutely, but there are millions of other people who did/could've worked just as hard or harder, but at the end of the day they stopped growing, couldn't get stronger, weren't super fast, things that hold back the average man. Looking at athletes who do(kind of) throw away their talent urks people the wrong way.
To be a drug addicted bust, not because he was a contributor to society. Lottery winners get 100 million dropped in their lap, it doesn’t make them rich, seeing as they blow it in a year anyways.
@@keishonmcclendon4555his comment is very dumb you hear what Rasheed and Ben Wallace said about brown they said very good things about him and he’s not the biggest bust
@jeremybetts4538 they hit the gentetic lottery, don't stroke them that hard now.. If you were 6'4 or taller and 220 plus LBs in HS your way to the pros is driven by a personal driver.
@@ceazemccallsr.6679boohoo since when do employers help their employees with their personal life’s? He had a job and he failed miserably. You must be a big raider fan huh.
I'm a Raiders fan. Hearing his take on this is not surprising. He is just trying to save face though. Who would want to be the face of the biggest bust! Refrigerator Perry look alike no heart biotch. Invest wisely bruh. We see there is no work ethic or fight in no ya.
@@chrisboyles763 just telling it like it is. We all got our ish we gotta deal with. Supposed to feel bad for some multi millionaire that half assed his pro career that most aspiring players never get to see? Let alone that money that most people never get to see either. People have it worse!
He’s not the biggest bust in NFL history Trey Lance is the biggest bust of all time I believe that the Trey Lance trade and pick cost the 49ers 2 maybe even 3 Super Bowls
That's a pretty legit take. Kyle shanahan had to have his shiny new QB. He doesn't take enough heat for his blunders imo he's cost that loaded roster multiple super bowls at times in the last five years. Not just in game decisions either
Nah I say he was a genius...good enough to make it the NFL.... genius enough to get at the time the highest rookie contract ever and keep his body preserved in order to enjoy the rest of his life...💯
Speaks to the kind of character he has. Dude was used to being the biggest and best as a kid and in school and didn't have to put in hard work because he was good at football. Once he got to the NFL and had to put in hard work to play with the men who all they did was put in hard work they entire lives, he was exposed as a fraud and a bust.
Jamarcus Russell wasn’t bad in the NFL. He was average. He did things to atleast be average. The worst NFL player in history who is also TERRIBLE in the NFL in Jordon Love, ironically the highest paid contract in NFL history he has as well. Hahahahhaha. Weird. Anything’s possible in life.
@@austinshannon4197 you're fucking drunk if you think Jemarcus Russell was average and Jordan Love is the worst player in history. Do you even watch football? SMH
Madden 12 me and like 10 friends made a madden franchise and we drafted our teams and I specifically didn’t draft a qb and signed Jamarcus Russel from free agency (64ovr) to be my qb for the dolphins and he took us all the way to the Super Bowl (we lost)
Jamarcus Russell should still have a warrant out for his arrest for robbing the Raiders for over $32 Million! Russell's Definitely in the same class as Ryan Leaf & Johnny Manzell for NFL's biggest Bust of all time!
Jamarcus was caught drinking cough syrup with codeine just to get high, then he tried to come back 5 years later gaining 30lbs of fat, wish he took his job seriously he was 6'9 the ideal prototype QB
Ryan Leaf was the biggest bust. Half the nfl woulda taken him over the second best QB to ever play the game. His own team nearly took Ryan first til the interview when Peyton showed how focused and driven he was
perhaps, and probably considering how quickly his life unraveled. Then again, he propped his life back up super quick, very impressive what leaf has done.
How could an NFL GM hear him speak and then select him number 1 overall is the real question? Quarterback is the most intellectually demanding position in sports and this guy can't even enunciate! The raiders deserve all the blame, not him.
Whos talking to people that couldnt hang and gamed the system? Stop giving a voice to every human you trying to milk dang - next up, LeBron James son in a 32 part mini series where we look into why he sucks and what his feelings are" waste of time people out here
@@JackieSchofueld well no offense but none of u have any room to talk. Losers with no money and haven’t accomplished anything in life calling a millionaire and guy who made the nfl a “bum” is crazy lol
For me the biggest bust alsodepends on who was taken after you. The fact the next two players were first ballot HOFers makes him the biggest bust of all time, not just his hype.
He might have a degree, but listening to him speak and knowing his lack of preparation for the one thing he was actually good at, it’s obvious that someone else was writing those essays and taking the tests.
Im a Raiders fan..and i was disappointed we drafted him..that qb draft class was weak..but if we were a smart organization we would have traded down and drafted either a RB or WR.. the team needed everything .. why people were high on Russell was beyond me.. his pocket presence and accuracy in college showed he wasnt going to be a top QB in the NFL.. Its the Raiders..we fumbled so many drafts.
@JohnnyTsunami566 it was but it wasn’t as consistent.. even in college great arm but his consistency was an issue he could kill you in more way then 1 tho
I’ll say this usually I don’t care about busts but you can’t deny what this man did in college. Maybe money ruined him… but imagine if it didn’t he could have been a Super Bowl champ
Man was a beast at Williamson. He didn’t live up to his potential at LSU. I’ll never forget being confused as hell when he was projected to go number one. I don’t consider him a bust because he never had any business going that early. “He can throw the ball 60 yards on his knees”
@@movementpolitics9661 I remember it just didn’t make any sense to me. He was incredibly inconsistent at LSU. He had a great sugar bowl and it was like people forgot about his flaws. He also got bigger while at LSU. When he was in high school, he was a great athlete.
@@dezcaughtit316 being able to throw the ball far was his only good quality. That didn’t justify him going number one. You can’t even legally throw the ball while on your knees
He played 3 seasons. They suck before him and still til this day. Raiders haven't won a playoff game sine 2002 and they've only been to the playoffs twice! Raiders are the bust
