What a great video Dr. G! During “The Secret” heyday, there was another guru who encouraged people to pay him $4,000 for the opportunity to sit in his Rolls Royce. He claimed if they could “feel” what that was like, then they would manifest money faster. Thank you for bringing attention to the grifters in a well thought out way, while tossing in some fun puns. 😎👍

We joined "Chapel of Light" in Lake Whitney TX many years ago. It was New Age and it made no sense to me and I was not liked as a result. There was a woman who said I could quit taking meds for epilepsy and my husband convinced me to do just that. The lady who balanced swung a stone of some sorts over my head and she said I was healed and stop the med. Well of course I had a seizure and finally my husband saw the 'cult' for what it was and we were ostracized. These folks would have nothing to do with us because we opposed what they were doing. They always wanted money. And they always were smiling and happy. made me want to pull my hair out!

a lot of people don't understand even basic human psychology. People often confuse narcissism and confidence for expertise and wisdom. And the biggest problem of all - people want quick fixes. As a teacher I've seen it a thousand times; anything that says "quick and easy," "every other system is doing it wrong," or "here's the secret you need to see," will make a lot of money. As long as people want something other than hard work and determination, they'll jump in and pay good money for it.

Honestly, books from Louise Hay have helped me more than therapy.. therapists don’t seem to be interested really helping you.. they just listen and ask stupid questions. But in the books of Louise Hay there she gives you help, for example "we are all victims of victims" meaning, we think our past was bad, but if go back a generation and we try to think what our parents had to endure, it puts everything in perspective. Also she says to imagine your parents as 4 year olds and to hold them and say it’s okay, they don’t have to be afraid...etc..this helped me sooooo much more than a therapist who would only tell you :you can’t change your parents you can only change yourself, and leave you hanging with that hole in your heart...

I can also say, that I am truly happy in my thoughts now. It was like my brain was trained to be angry before, it was easy to be angry. Now, it's easy to look at brighter sides, respond with positivity to negative comments, and I think I retrained my brain to start with joy first, then anger if needed. I really think if I stayed longer I would have had serious injury. Or worse. I had an extreme migraine for a week after. Sweatlodges are not healthy! It should be foribidden. You are forced to stay in and the whole group encourages you to stay in, but your body screams that you should go out now! If that isn’t intuition enough, I don’t know what intuition is. I was in the spiritual world ( New age world) for a whyle but since the Corona pandemic, I saw how dangerous these gurus are, telling everybody to don’t weir masks and that the Corona virus is fake, and that your should rebel against the rules and the gouvernement, and if you get the vaccine you will have a deadly cocktail put in your body and all that nonsense. Same with the death of yourself. Christian do it but are filled with the holy spirit( happens by being dipped in water)but in new age it’s demons but you’re told it’s oneness and we’re all god. Once you’re possessed if you can control it you can’t become successful from the supernatural help or you’re ruined star hearing voices so you start doing drugs or want to kill yourself.

@@andybrown3016 I actually used to be obsessed with it and Tolles teachings. Now I find it and Tolle very cult like. On a surface level some useful things that even a psychologist would recommend but beneath that very manipulative and potentially dangerous. @bernardsmith1230

@@andybrown3016 also what sort of activism is Tolle involved in apart from sitting around ignoring everything. Does he care about starving children or our future planet ect. @andybrown3016
@andybrown3016 2 года назад
@@bernardsmith1230 I actually agree with you that making a vast amount of money (Tolle is worth an estimated 70 million dollars) is rather contradictory to the core principles of spirituality. But it is not just him who is benefitting financially it simply goes with the territory if you are successful and have a big audience. Essentially if he really practiced what he preached then yes he should use that money to help other people. I know I would if I had that wealth but everyone is different. Also the point you made about depersonalisation can’t really be directed at Tolle in particular for what he teaches.And that is because this is something that is well documented within spirituality in general often referred to as the “dark night of the soul”. It is very common. And yes it is potentially even worse than normal depression. I have experienced it personally. This deep existential angst accompanied by depersonalisation and derealisation is a dark side of spirituality that is not often acknowledged. I agree people should be made more aware of this. But what Tolle teaches is not revolutionary, he is not saying anything new. His teachings and concepts are really a rehash of Buddhist, Taoist and Advaita Vedanta philosophy. He simply introduces eastern spirituality to a western audience.

Which was fine during the day but once in the sweatlodge you're not meant to pop out for the loo. We were told to just sit in our urine if we had to pee. There was some sort of prayer/ritual aspect to it, it was incredibly hot and I had to get out after 30-45 minutes. I can't remember how long the whole thing went for but sitting in my own pee in incredible heat isn't my idea of fun. I paid $350 for the experience and the leader accused me of being weak for not staying in the Lodge longer. Overall my experience with New Age taught me shiny happy people can be dodgy as all hell and spirituality shouldn't be expensive.

More because it can be a very pleasant way to bring yourself down to earth, to see what really counts in life. It´s a beautiful ritual, if done well. But this guy really messed up in many ways.
