Because most people do not understand conflict and war. He takes it on the chin but can you imagine what for one moment, what he and others saw in the war. It takes great courage. It hacks the soul.
Such a touching song as personally i served in the Armed Forces throughout Bosnia and Kosovo during these conflicts, this song takes me straight back there seeing all the hunger and desolation that war brings. Amazing how songs can transport the mind instantly. Thanks for sharing. Peace and Love to all out there!

I used to walk in my neighborhood park with my Mp3 on and singing this song when it's late at night. Guess I was obsessed with J.B. then. Something about this song makes it hard to sing during daytime but easier at night. I think it's because we are all hiding something during the day and it's at night we really come to terms with the dark side.
@Chicky160487 your correct he was a captain in the British army. he served with an armord unit I saw an interview of him on You tube. He said he wrote this set after returning from the front lines durring peace keeping operations Durring the Kosovo War.
It is 1 of my favorites. Probably for exactly the reason's that you do not. It makes me feel alive. Better to feel than to hide away, rather than to not deal with it all.
What kind of person are you? 1.The kind that turns and looks away because suffering is ugly or 2. do you look bravely with intent to see for the sake of love or compassion? I see this often, people in pain that would cripple lesser while others don't have the heart or constitution to look at them.. I just saw this on here somewhere, (something like this) "If a man kills another he's a murderer.. if he kills thousands he's a king."

@serena5002 He write the song while being in a war, think it was in Kosovo but someone correct me if I'm wrong.. But anyway, I think he means war.. Not mankind, not some big evil thing from hell, just war in general.. Just my two cents..
Maria Blente Yes it’s about war in Kosovo where James served and he saw some terrible things, women and children killed by serbians. This war happened in 1999.
I listen to this song makes me think of what the Nazis have done the all the Jews and other people in the camps. or God's choesn people slaving away in Moses's time. As they cry out in pain and the women weeping in pain and death at the hands of the Egyptians
