His song "Carry you home" by James blunt is very personal and is also related to his time in the military. It's more subtle in its storytelling, but you you watch the video for it you can see the true story that is being told. A powerful song

Your comments are on point. James is now fighting another level of war, he's more effective using his talent to make a difference in this world.

If I recall correctly all the musicians on this track are military men and were listed with their ranks in the Back To Bedlam album sleeve notes. Captain James Blount (pronounced Blunt hence the change in spelling for his stage name) and his unit were amongst the first NATO troops to enter Kosovo during the Balkan War. One assignment was to secure an airport but the Russians had got there first. The American who headed NATO forces ordered them to take the airport by force but Blunt apparently argued against the order and British General Mike Jackson joined the conversation and told the American commander point blank that his men were not going to start World War 3! The Russians and NATO came to an agreement to share the airfield. Blunt later joined the Queen's Guard and was one of the soldiers who stood guard over the casket of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother as she lay in state prior to her funeral.

One slight correction, this IS the Queens Guard. The "Blues & Royals" one of two regiments of the "Household Cavalry". When they're not trotting round London on horseback, they have the role of light armoured reconnaissance troops.

My favorite song as well and also feel it is extremely underrated! More people should see the absolutely devastating consequences of war on the innocent lives. Those without choices. Same way I feel that all people should watch Roots so they can SEE the true nature of slavery. People bury their heads in the sand and try to say it can't be that bad when it is actually worse! Thank you so much for this and I am glad you loved it ❤️❤️

So true that James Blunt is underestimated. And it's also true that this song is never played on radio, I've never heard it there.

My heart goes out to all the people who are victems in a war that they never ask for, one of my partners was in the military, was deployed to Irak years ago, and said after a few months, you don't see half of what we see and how do you fight an enemy that is willing to blow theirselfs up? Soldiers taking orders because they must defent the borders, of their nation, and the other side's the same..... song Mr Blue, by Rene Klijn....

James is a tough, military man who has fought for his country, and much of the rest of us who don't live in England. Surely he's seen and done things a lot of us can't even imagine. His healing comes from writing and singing music. He shares that beautiful and usually very sad music with the world. He's a good man and he's very talented. Love his music even though he makes me cry. A lot. He certainly has a sense of humor as well. I enjoy following him on Twitter, aka X. The more I've learned about him, the more love and respect I have for him.

James served in the Kosovo War in the late 1990s. He famously disobeyed an order to attempt to capture an airport held by Russian forces, which would have started WW3. Later in his military career, he was part of the Queen’s Guard and was one of the soldiers guarding the Queen Mother’s coffin and walking in the funeral procession.
@glastonbury4304
@glastonbury4304 2 года назад
Not exactly true, James led 30,000 troops into Kosovo and was told to over run the Russian held Airport by the American General Wesley Clark , but the British General Mike Jackson over ruled the American General and told James not to as he wasn't going to be responsible for WW3...Good call...

He has been here refers to Slobodan Milosevic. War criminal. It is a very real HE. Also Ratko Mladic was the army general who became known as the "Butcher of Bosnia", who waged a brutal campaign during the Bosnian war. Thanks for your video.

It's the last track on his first album. It reminded me of tales from late father, who was in the region in the aftermath of WW2, and was in the events that laid the seeds for the conflict that Blunt was in almost 50 years later.

I think who he’s saying has been there was the evil one who is not human and can’t be defeated. Also I believe he’s talking to his fellow soldiers who went there gung ho and ready to fight, but as they realized what war was they realized sadness was what they would take home with them. The bravery was there, the heroism was there,but sadness was their reward also.

The Balkan conflicts were not really about elitism, remote bombing etc. This was neighbour turning on neighbour in the name of religious and cultural hatred. No too dissimilar to the genocide in Rwanda not long before. Push enough buttons and pump out enough propaganda and it's astounding what people will do to each other.

Don't overestimate the humanity of women; a very famous feminist once said 'If you corner a woman, she will devour her best friends and pick her teeth with their bones'. I rather like women, but they are as human as men, thank goodness.

I know a man who went to war in Afghanistan. His teammate found himself in front of a child soldier, he hesitated and didn't shoot... The child shot him and the man died. War is dirty. The men and women who return are often destroyed inside.

In the 1st world war, you had no choice you were drafted if you were in the age range and not in a essential job at home. In the trenches if you didn't die or wounded going over the top, certain death, you died of foot rot standing in water for days on end. If you ran away deserted and caught you were court marshalled put against a wall and shot by 6 men, your comrades, that was done so each one didn't know if they'd killed him or not. It was horrendous men were left to rot where they lay, no mobile phones then, the main way of knowing if your husband, father etc was dead was if they didn't come home. Thousands died. Nothing like today, and thats bad enough...,

I really liked your reaction and analysis. I’m 60 and I posted this on MySpace 2006. I was a top blogger and a Christian. The Uncle Tom thing was very strong. John McCain sang songs about bombing Iran and Sara Palin was banning books. I got a lot of push back. That “Uncle Tom” talking point. Jane’s Blunt looked into his comrades eyes and saw no bravery only sadness. I think “he” is war and war is hHELL. They were all in HELL. 💔

Interestingly, James chose to go to war to avoid a dishonourable discharge due to a failed drugs test for hard drugs. Ended up risking his soldiers lives due to intoxication and avoided being fired again by sheer luck, but also was commended for not following an order and stopping an outbreak of war between NATO and Russia over an airport. You’ve also fully misunderstood Kosovo and why NATO was there, to stop the killing and act as peacekeepers. You’ve thought it was like Vietnam or Iraq, but it was more like trying to put out a country on fire, going in feeling brave and ready to fight the good fight - and then realising how utterly hopeless and horrific what the people there had done to each other for generations, and how little they could do. So… absolutely NOTHING to do with ‘going abroad and attacking anyone else’…

This is an incredible heart felt song. There were 28,000 missing children in Kosovo during the conflict with Serbia in the 1990s. This was also detailed in PJ Harvey's amazing track "The Wheel" which is also as sadly underrated as this classic despite winning the mercury prize!
