What makes this song for me is knowing that James has been there and seen it all so his emotions are based on his experience whilst in the Army.He is so underated!
Both James and I served in the military. NOBODY hates war as much as a soldier does, but I am proud to have served my country and I would do it again if needed.
"Carry me home" is another one that will smash you in the feels. James is a genius for how he always makes you feel something, whether that's joy, sadness or, as in this case, anger.
I have such respect for james blunt,, i think his way of dealing with the horrors of war by making this song to try to let people know what it really is was awesome
James Blunt gets made fun of because of his squeaky voice and songs like “You’re Beautiful”, but songs like this one and Monsters are phenomenal and the fragility in his voice fits those perfectly.
He's also said that he didn't get the hype for You're Beautiful as well since it's actually about a very creepy stalker following a woman on the subway.
James Blunt did a documentary called Back to Kosovo and was reunited with the translators he had worked with. When they went to look for the families they interacted with during their time there no one was left. Unclear if they were all killed or if they fled and never returned to their homes. He discusses writing this song.
Whoa!!! Oh wow!! I’ve never heard this song before! Holy cow!! This one hurts, doesn’t it! Us humans need to stop our fighting and hurting others. John Lennon said Love Is The Answer!! It most certainly is!! ❤❤❤
Written from his own experiences in the military. His own footage. A young kid signing uo for the military wanting to be like his Dad with no idea what he's getting himself into. Everytime he performs this song you see it all over him.
So pleased to see another reaction to this song. The point it really gets to me is you can see the pain behind the eyes on James face as he looks straight into the camera - it's like he is staring straight at you but past you into his own haunting memories of that time. James Blunt is a truly spectacular musician and songwriter and this is one of his very best. Thank you for shining a light on ths hidden gem.
This is one of my favourite James Blunt songs, speaking from his own military service. Thank you for the beautiful, heartfelt reaction. I'm really happy to hear you didn't have cancer. I know what you went through because I was diagnosed with leukemia just before Christmas 2020. I started watching youtube reactions to cope and I stumbled upon your channel, and I've followed you ever since. Thank you for the wonderful reactions, it's helped me more than you know.
War is stupid, its useless and its hell, I do believe that is what he is saying in this song, you can see and hear the emotion in him, anyone that thinks war is a good or useful thing is full of it. This is a very hard song and video to watch and hear, you're not alone.
Guys, remember this is Kosovo, this was not a war for oil or to satisfy a rich man fighting his daddy´s war. This was to stop a genocide, so in this case, well done
James has a way of pulling at your heart strings. War has always been about money, and as long as there is greed there will be wars. To all the veterans and their loved ones thank you thank you, thank you. Big hug to you Cliff for always doing your part. To humans everywhere ❤️❤️❤️HOPE. Love Great Grandma 🥲🥲👵🏼
Thanks for reacting. This is a hard song but truthful about the experience and realities of war. So much unnecessary suffering. If you want more of his up beat music I recommend The Greatest or Bonfire Heart.
James also went against direct orders, he was ordered by American officers to have his men attack Russian forces who at the time were allies and he flat refused as it would have caused World War 3. He was looking at being court marshalled but the head of the army at that time Mike Jackson stepped in and said he did the right thing and commended James.
What is most sad about this story. Or his story. Many in Europe know someone who went to the Balkans as peace enforcers. It was not a conflict in the 60's or something. It was in the 90's. And the sad part is, its really beginning to flare up again. Serbia going back to the old idea, giving fire to the flames. Using people to create conflict and chaos that can easy lead to the next thing. It's sad that humans are so dumb. That instead of spending the last 20-30 years finding out how to be better. It's all back to the idea of needing to have. And be willing to waste life and safety for it. So once again, peacekeeping forces are send. And its not even a month ago several peacekeeping troops where injured when when Serbian nationalist attacked. For all our intelligence. we as humans.. Are really, really dumb. Plain and simple. Its not even being unintelligent. Its just being dumb. Our intelligence should make us know better, but it does not. Animals have an excuse of not knowing better. Humans does not. So we as a race are just dumb.
I totally agree with you🥺. I was crying so hard about it. I’ve felt this way but it’s hard to know how to talk about it cause I feel for those who’ve been employed, etc. It’s a complicated thing and you seem to understand that, having loved ones/friends who’ve been in it. 💙
It’s ironic that before watching this video I was just watching a music video for Cancer by MCR, with T0P cover. I hadn’t realized you went through that. 💙
I really don’t think you’re alone in hating war, most of us do. Sure it’s tough listening to this song but we didn’t experience these atrocities, James did.
His song is spot on. Many of us have traded bravery for sadness. I pray my children and grandchildren never have to see the things we have. I’ll never criticize your view on war, because wars will always be fought, but in my opinion they could all be avoided. More politicians should take your view. No man should never want war.
Im glad people are talking about this again, most people have either forgotten or dont know anything about it. What happened to the kosovan albanians, how much they suffered is no less important than what has happened during other wars but nobody ever talks about it. Its heartbreaking
James is an incredible live performer. People may not be aware, but he also performed this live in 2013 at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. I'd love to see your reaction to his song "No Tears." This is one of my favorite performances. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SltwLDaGadc.html&ab_channel=JamesBlunt However, if you get tired of the slower songs, he has some really good dance type music like The Truth and OK. Satellites is also an up-tempo song with a good message. Stop the Clock is slower, but also a good message. Like I said before, in another post for another reaction, James has a lot of great songs. You can pick just about any song from any album he has put out, and it will be pretty great.
Any sane person is against war. However sometimes you have to defend yourself or country or another country. The UK in this war went in to defend people being slaughtered, so in that sense it was 'good' if such a thing can be said
this one always hits me hard, coz i am one of the balcan war kids... bring back all those feeling i never ever want to have. was 9 and since then i suffer from complex ptsd and hate armies, soldiers, weapons, cant stand them and cant understand why anyone wants to be a soldier go to war, or what ever and never will understand... as long as there are people who wants to be soldiers and go to war, we will have wars... i love james blunt and his songs, but this one i love and hate in same time...
I just read yesterday, this is not me, I don't know who said it, but goes like "war is fight for young people who doesnt know each other and doest jate each others for old people that know and hate each other" But when I was in high school I ask my history teacher who win the war, and he told me, theres no winners in a war, everybody loses, now I'm older I understan and agreed
My Grandfather had his door kicked in ( as they say) as he was the Mayor of that town at the time. My Grandfather was shot in the head instantly after, and my Aunt was apparently rapped. She obviously never recovered and became a Nun, leaving only my uncle, who was only 4 years old at that time, and my grandmother. My father, who by the way never drank, and I came home from school one day, where he was sitting alone, with I believe maybe a bottle of scotch or something. He was never a man that talked about things, , but he told me things that I never knew. He was also captured and became a prisoner of war for nearly two years. I cannot describe the feelings that we talked about that day, though after he passed, I shall always remember to my dying breath, the meaning of what he must have gone through !!!!! 1:05 ❤️
A child is brought into this world innocent, it's down to the parents to change the cycle, as long as we keep wanting revenge for a past dead and gone we will always be stuck in a cycle of hate...learn from the past and make a change and never never listen to the greed of politicians and aged military generals who know no better!!!
Always been to me, James is talking to himself here. We all talk about bravery that soldiers supposedly have, but in the end, they're still people, and people are generally not equipped to deal with the realities of war. And I'm sure, when some of them hear people espouse how brave they are to, in the end, kill people, this is how they want to respond. PTSD, shell shock, whatever you want to call it, the sadness and anger that they get when they come home, and often time get ignored by those that sent them there in the first place, is what they actually get. And that sucks.
His Carry You Home is equally harrowing. James often writes about events in his life. He was a captain in the British Army and went to Kosovo as a tank commander. Maybe check out his Wikipedia sometimes. The only people who benefit from wars are the people making weapons. Fact.
Do you know it's literally about a stalker following some poor women around the subway? James himself has commented how weird it is that You're Beautiful is so loved by his fans 😂😂
We want to go into space, but we would blast aliens to smithereens just for landing. We can't even accept others living on Earth who are different. War and violence needs to end. Children need to live in a world of peace and happiness.
‘I’m not hearing you’ hm. Well that explains the ignorance. The fact you cannot engage in a respectful conversation like an adult without finding it rude, whilst insulting all our soldiers who fight and die for you to make such videos - spouting your unfounded opinion. The irony. The disrespect. Just because you don’t understand something, doesn’t make it false. That you think the enemy will drop their weapons because you simply say you want peace… is extraordinarily naïve. Evil people will always exist - when they mass together, you have to counter that attack to keep innocent people safe. I know you don’t want to talk about or see it, that you label it as ‘negativity’ if anyone dares to disagree with you, and that they’re somehow ‘rude’… but, that doesn’t change reality. No matter how much wishful thinking or how far you bury your head in the sand.
