Love your reactions, Tom ~ you are a real "mensch" ~ and not at all grumpy! "No Tears" is on his 2011 recording, "Some Kind of Trouble," so it predates "Monsters" by more than 8 years. His father's "absence that made me strong" has nothing to do with death, but rather long military deployments, while James was a little kid in boarding school. James attended the prestigious Harrow School, alma mater to numerous British Prime Ministers, and later, the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, where Prince Harry also trained. James is a licensed pilot, of both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. I'm so glad you appreciate this remarkable artist and human being. Thanks!
Thanks Hugh for watching I really appreciate you. I also appreciate the information. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the artists and bands and even their countries. James is absolutely amazing and I have reacted to him 5 or 6 times and most of the songs made me cry. I really appreciate and am thankful for his military service. Anyone who serves in any capacity I am so thankful. I have James on my schedule for about 3 or 4 weeks from now. Thanks again and take care my friend.
When he sang about his father’s absence he referred to his childhood. His father was in the military and not home most if the time. In addition to that his parents send him to a boarding school at the age of 8 so he saw his parents only a few times a year.
Thanks for the info. I know a little about having a father not being around. When we were little my dad was working 4 or 5 jobs just to make ends meet. When I got older we spent a lot of time together. That's why I say spend as much time with your family because time goes by so fast. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
I'm not afraid of crying but James Blunt makes me cry every time and I grew up not crying. When my my father died I cried and it didn't make me less a man. Now I cry at the drop of a hat. Thanks Tom.
We are so much alike. I was taught men don't cry . My dad was a football player and boxer in college and a tuff man. I think I started to cry after my kids were born. Now I also cry all the time. Thanks my friend and talk again tomorrow.
Thanks for watching and your suggestion. I just put it on my list. I have James scheduled in 2 weeks so you can look for it. I record a bunch of videos at a time because I am computer illiterate so my wife has to send the videos to my son who edits them. Thanks again.
James Blunt's father is still alive, the reason for making the song "Monsters" was to make more money, just kidding. Charles Blount, a colonel in the British Royal Air Force and father of James Blunt, suffered from kidney disease and needed a kidney transplant, but due to his age, it was unlikely that would happen, so James wanted to say goodbye to him. in life with that song, the incredible thing was that thanks to that action, someone wanted to donate their kidney. Greetings from Mexico.
Thank you so very much for watching I really appreciate it. This is the saddest song I have ever heard and the video just makes me cry. At my age I have lost so many loved ones and I am so happy his Dad is still alive. Thanks again and Merry Christmas and take care down in Mexico.
Thanks so much for your reaction! I love this song. This video predates Monsters. Both of James' parents are still alive. I think James said his father's absences made him strong because James grew up in boarding school and his father was often on deployment. I'm not sure who inspired this song. He speaks of people trying to understand the sacrifice, so perhaps it was someone he served with.
Thanks for the info. James is absolutely amazing and I really love his raspy voice. I was not aware James went to boarding school. I do remember seeing James comes from a long line of military family. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it
@@grumpyoldguyreacts James has lots of emotional songs. "Goodbye My Lover" is one of his most well-known songs, but it is another sad one. If you'd like to try something more upbeat, I would recommend Satellites. It is James' commentary on our digital age. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XyLQjMC2Q38.html&ab_channel=JamesBlunt
@@grumpyoldguyreacts for sure, btw, I love your reactions. You are honest about things and that is all anyone can ask. I hope you have a good Christmas
It wasn’t just that his father wasn’t there. He said in an interview that he was in an boarding school and saw his parents only a few times a year. That experience of needing to take care of himself shaped him and made him very mature. I believe he also referred to this.
@@ChiLou1 yeah of course he's posh and went to boarding school. But even most boarding school kids have their parents close, it's different if the Dad is always away due to the army
I think you would enjoy the "Bonfire Heart" video shot in Idaho and Wyoming with local people, including a real wedding reception that James Blunt and the video crew crashed. "Halfway" is upbeat and enjoyable and "Bartender" is another upbeat song about alcohol as a relationship aid.
Thanks so very much for your suggestions. James is fantastic and spectacular. I will definitely do much more of him in the future. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
