love this video a walk through memory lane i am a retired swedish male who loves american culture especially the john wayne movies and cary grant of course
You're such a chill guy! One day your channel popped into my recommended. I started binge watching and wondering why I was still using my cartridge razor when safety razors seemed so much better. Ordering my first safety razor tonight and excited to actually enjoy shaving instead of dreading it, Thanks man!
Dude. I don’t think u will look back to the cartridge razors!!! If u have problems please ask our great community. We will help u anyway we can to help u have a better shave!!! Shave on!!
I grew up in Pismo and used to travel that stretch with my Dad every year to visit my Grandma in Bakersfield. Years later I lived in Bakersfield and traveled that stretch with my kids to visit their grandparents (my parents) in Pismo. Like I said in another comment, I collected many rocks as a kid around that memorial. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Man, when you pulled out that Old Spice bottle, you reminded me of my childhood and my father. All he used was a safety razor and double edge razors of course. I remember him filling up the sink half way with water and using regular bar soap to shave and splashing on Old Spice after he was done. Your vid put me through memory lane. Thanks for putting out great videos Ken. God Bless You and your family.
Ha, I just ran across this video. I live in the town that James Dean was born in and about 10 miles away from the farm he lived on in Fairmount IN. My uncle went to high school with him. We have "James Dean Days" and a huge classic car rally here every year. I've been to his grave site there in Fairmount IN and the museum. If you like him that well, and ever get a chance to, you need to come to the "James Dean Days" festival we have around here in the Fall season. William C. central Indiana.
Great video Ken. You’ve got me wanting one of those Gillettes. Loved the old public service clip. I haven’t seen any of Dean’s films but you’ve convinced me that they’re worth checking out.
Fun fact...Dean was originally supposed to say at the end "The life you save may be your own"....but he changed it up a bit... a bit more as you said ironically. Thanks for the great content! 👍and subbed
Trivia... a chill guy... a great shave... a TRUE gentleman man such as Ken!!! What more can u ask for in a shave??? Your a TRUE gentleman! England truly is missing a great man since you are here in the states!!! So glad you are here. Totally my favorite shaver on RU-vid!! Keep up the good shaves!! “You can fast forward thru this if u want” hell no!!!! I wanna see every second of your great videos!!! So edit again..... Steve McQueen. Amazing actor!!! Ken U bringing up these great amazing actors.... you are truly a class act! If I ever met you in person, I’d treat you and yours to anything I could around here in Louisiana 😎
I have so enjoyed your videos Ken! Great tribute! I have hated shaving most of my life and a few months ago, decided to switch things up a bit by buying a cheap mug and a brush. I couldn’t get a good lather so I searched RU-vid and found your videos and some others on the subject which were a huge help. Your videos convinced me to try DE wet shaving and pitch the cartridges. You were SOOOO right! What a close shave AND I look forward to my shave every morning now (Jagger D89, Rockwell 6C and a 1960 flair tip super speed). I’ve gone from hating it to wishing my beard would grow faster. I enjoy getting out my soap collection (Proraso, Stirling, TOBS...) to enjoy a good close shave with some favorite fragrances. It’s not too strong to say that you have been an inspiration and a good teacher! Than you Ken! I will never go back to cartridges and crap in a can shave creams again.
Nice shave Ken,I loved Giant! Always been more of McQueen guy but thats probably just because Dean was gone a few before my time, but he is for sure one of those Iconic figures in pop culture.
Ken , I could tell by watching your videos over the last year that you are a very smart man but I did not know your education . Your videos are always full of information . Thanks . Ps ,. Don't let this go to your head . Lol.
Another nice shave Ken. Glad you finally got the President, good score. I sent you pics of mine months ago, a Y4, birth year and quarter in the case with original blades and instructions. Don't think it was ever used, estate find. Tabac is a great performer and the scent is either liked or hated, I like it. If you like the original Old Spice, give Stirlings version a try, scary real. Love the burn brother.. Enjoy!
I am intrigued by Supernatural and Para normal phenomena and there is a whole other world of information on how Dean's car is supposed to be cursed and that all the subsequent owners of its various parts which had been sold suffered injury and/or death themselves in the vehicles that contained these parts. I am bit fuzzy on the details as it's been some time since I refreshed my memory from actual research but I thought I'd drop this little tidbit..I certainly enjoyed all aspects of this video. Thanks.
This was an excellent premise for a video, incredibly well done. One of the most phenomenal actors from Hollywood's Golden Era. He would've been amazing in Somebody Up There Likes Me as Rocky Graziano which got recast as Paul Newman. So sad and tragic that he passed that young. Great video, Ken.
I was finally able to get the shulton original old spice aftershave. My mom gave it to me as an early christmas gift. Although it did not come in the box. It was a porcelain bottle like the one you have in this video and it has the grey top and the top does not have a star on it so i looked on a old spice history website and i believe it is from somewhere between the 50s and 70s although im not sure but i figured youd be the one to ask. Thank you ken. I appreciate your replies and your knowledge on these topics.
Congratulations on the President! I absolutely love mine. I got it for $23, but the Rhodium is gone. It's two tone, bare brass and nickel. I call it "The Dead President". Still a great shave and still a great deal. I would still love to have one like yours!
BTW an additional bit of useless trivia - that's Gig Young interviewing Dean in the PSA about highway driving. Gig went on to win an Academy Award in 1970, and his last film was the Bruce Lee movie (another actor whose greatest fame happened after his death at an early age) "Game of Death", despite the fact Lee had died several years earlier and Young himself was already dead (from a murder-suicide with his new bride) several months before "Game of Death" was released to theaters in North America.
Great tribute shave as always Ken. You should do another old spice comparison video, but this time seeing how all the artisan remakes stack up against the original shulton. You could end the debate of which is the closest match once and for all, lol.
Great shave and tribute Ken. That had to be one evil crash to do that kind of damage on that car like it did, wow. They say the car was cursed. I don't know if you saw Reelz's autopsy about that crash or not but it was extremely interesting. Oh Soap Commander now has aftershave splashes and their "Endurance" scented line is an exact match for the 1938 Shulton Old Spice scent.
@@b.c.gamingss I don't know if you have the puck or the stick. I have the stick myself and I never tried the puck. The stick is simple, wet the face and rub the stick on your face for 10 to 15 secondes. Then take your brush ring it so no more water is dripping out of it and start lathering. Add more water every 20 secondes until proper consistency. If you are using the puck, ring your brush so it is not dripping anymore, load from the puck for 20 secondes. Wet the face and start lathering, again, add water every 20 secondes until desired consistency. I have a video where I use the stick on my youtube channel but it is in french and I think it was my 3rd video. Feel free to check it out. Let us know of he results when you use Tabac again
Not sure if you've ever seen it but there's a good movie from 1977 titled "September 30, 1955" about the effect of James Dean's death on a group of teenagers in Arkansas when the news reaches them. Richard Thomas and Dennis Quaid are among the stars.
Excellent video Ken, you're way of doing the shave videos is informative as well as making me dig way back into my movie collection, well done mate! Going to watch Giant, cheers.
Ken yet another master piece and really well put together. Some interesting facts about JD which is really good to know, but still a great shame. Nice touch and very educational. 5 x ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Thanks ken for the information on James Dean and I would also like to thank you for the help you gave me with what blade to try in the muker future the only problem I have now is waiting a couple of day to shave again and the funny thing is I used to hate having a shave now I can’t wait for one so a big thank you from me m8
Very awesome , I love James Dean , I got to see his grave in Indiana and the farm where he grew up on out there , haven’t seen much of the California stuff thanks
Great tribute shave Ken! I just bought a 1955 Gillette president razor from razor emporium in the rhodium with the case box boy they wanted $295 on it... But I said hell y not merry Christmas to myself lol plus with the black Friday sales on their website knocked some off! Have a good week Ken! Cheers!
@@kensurfs it's a beauty for sure took a little longer to get here because of snow n ice here in Nebraska.. But it's here and I'll be trying it this week for the 1st time also.. And that rhodium finish is awesome I love it.. All my "bigger" razors I have.. I've had razor emporium put that plating on it.. (slim twist, fatboy) and I'm soon gonna send off my 68 black beauty to be restored n plated... A nice shinny collection... Help Ken I need a wet shaving rehab haha!
This was a good one, Ken! I do this on my channel too. Put out a little history and some clips to match the vintage razor. Very cool format. That razor was nice too. Ill be looking at the antique stores for one now. James Dean is the reason I carried a switchblade for many years. Just too cool. Have you heard that there was a curse on the car too? Everyone that's owned the wreck or parts from it has had bad luck.
Posted at 5:59 pm on 9/30/19 Hey Ken Awesome Video and Big Thumbs Up,,,, RIP James Dean in remembrance today being (9/30/19) & it is 64 years back on this date at 5:59 pm (9/30/55) That A Hollywood legend was lost…. in a fatal head on collision in his Little Silver # 130 Porsche Spider.. gone to soon at only 24 but not forgotten.!!! I read that they made computer demo of the time of the accident and said he was doing the speed limit, if only he had been doing 5 mph faster or slower say an hour before he might be still alive by missing the car that was turning left that he had the head on collision with or makes you wonder if he did not get the ticket 2 hours earlier or if the cop had kept him for a couple of mins longer also. I guess it shows you when it your time it your time and nothing going to prevent fate from happening !!
Awwsome vid ken and could you please maybe include in one of your vids the proper way to clean a shave brush and if you have to use soap to clean it thanks
Shulton Old Spice is hard to come by, now. Stirling Spice EDT, would be the next best thing today. Dangerously close to that original but, lasts all day... unlike the original. Comes in their splash & balm, as well. Perfect Christmas scent 😉
@@darrencunningham8346 - Not sure if B&M does an EDT for their Reserve Spice (I only have the Seville). I think they do a splash, though. The soaps might be the better comparison... I think the B&M is much spicier. Almost overkill. More HOT cinnamon to Stirling's softer, mellow cinnamon. The Stirling is much closer to the original Shulton scent in my opinion. Other people remember it the other way around... that the original Old Spice was more robust, like B&M's. Either way, I think the Stirling is still the way to go. Soap, as well. Smells exactly the same as the EDT. Never could that B&M Reserve base to work for me =/ The Stirling just glows all day. It's fantastic.
Hell no. Not even comparable. James Dean was an icon. Walker was a B movie actor with hardly any real talent. Just because they both died in car crashes does not make them alike at all.
It will be so much better if you put those b rolls above the main timeline so we can enjoy them while you’re talking. Anyway Great content which is much more important than editing skills
Great shave. I heard the Eagles song that's about James Dean. I think I only heard it once on a local classic rock station. It's a good song, don't get me wrong. I'd like to check out Rebel Without a Cause when I can. Have a great week
Thanks for the history lesson! I like it a ton. Hopefully one day I can make it out there to see that area... go James Dean! Any suggestions for getting my first Gillette razor? There seems to be many vintage ones on eBay....
BG The techs are cheaper. The TTO slim adjustable are super cool. I would try to find whatever Gillette with the plastic case. They are so cool in a set👍💈
As a "Deaner" who has collected Deanabilia for 35 years, I could not disagree with you more regarding Giant. East Of Eden & Rebel put him on the map, as they were his seminal performances. Due to his untimely death during its production, he was hardly in "Giant" which ran over 3 hrs in length. In fact, they had to use another actor (said to be Dennis Hopper) who dubbed his voice in toward the end of the film. But alas, he was brilliant in all three films. I first became aware of Dean in 1986 when I rented RWOAC on VHS. His performance leapt out at me from the small screen. I wanted to be Dean, and find out all I could about the man.
To put it simply, EOE placed him on the map, RWOAC solidified his cult icon status by becoming the first actor to portray alienated youth in an honest fashion, and Giant saw Dean literally mature as an actor. I will admit that overall, Giant is the better-made film of the three. It was also not a "Western" in the literal sense. A soap opera family saga in the same vein as TV's Dallas.
YES...the gold version is the Diplomat. It's a toss up which one I like best, the D or my Milord. JD was before my time, but I have seen Rebel. Jim Buckus was in that film also.
Ken , the goatee looked good on you , better then Paul H ( sorry Paul ). Lol. My girlfriend loves mine but I just can't keep it on . I like to shave to much now .
