@@Peachsnapple75 What are you talking about? Sirico was a mob associate at best, and he never did 20 years in prison, he did maybe two for armed robbery and posession of an illegal firearm.
I know. It's sad. Paulie was my favorite character. Tony was just so damn good playing him. I hope they do a similar documentary for him as well. His real life story is actually amazing. I watched the interview with him from 1989, and I can't believe how mean he seemed to have been when he was younger. Talking about beating the shit out of guys just for talking to his girlfriend. The interviewer asked him if he ever killed anyone, and he hesitated at first but then said no. Of course he wasn't gonna say yes, even if he DID kill anyone. But, him turning his life around, and becoming an actor, is incredible, and inspiring.
Sirico died on the afternoon of July 8, 2022, at an assisted living facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, three weeks before his 80th birthday. No cause of death was given, but he had been diagnosed with dementia some years before his death.
That's what makes T. Soprano such a compelling character. The parts we hate about Tony /are/ Tony - the horrible, gluttonous, self-obsessed person who is solely out for himself; the parts we love about Tony /are/ James
Big hearted people, have the ability to be the complete opposite, if they need to. I'm one of those people as well. We basically flip the pancake. Regular people call it Bipolar, but it's not really. Really the scientific name for it is Empath. We feel everything with very high sensitivity. It seriously sucks at time because there aren't many times our emottions don't take us for a wild ride. James was the real deal and I think his acting came very natural to him.
Funny how Zandt said he was worried about being a guitarist and not being a professional actor, I think his stage presence and character was completely iconic
He is definitely one of my favorite characters of that show. Just looking at him in character, I knew if I ever saw a man that looked like him in the streets, I would know he was a made man and to watch my step. Lol.
Weirdly enough, he reminds me of Brando more than any of them, the way he held himself off set and just his genuine kindness towards others, but even his style of acting.
Is anyone gonna mention Tony's "waking up" scenes? Any time he wakes up, you think he's actually been sleeping soundly for 8 hours! But he's been on the set getting into makeup and rehearsing for the last 4 hours. Truly, the GREATEST wake up scenes in the history of cinema.
That and him getting out of the car in the intro are forever iconic images that only he could've pulled off. And to think that, of course (considering the great person he was), he had to fight the dilemma of having to heavily play a great character who was such different to his actual person and personality. What a body of work by James.
@@mosesrocco6614 Bro, it's acting. You making that comment tells you why James was so Amazing, cause he played a heartless Mob Boss who was a stone cold killer, and it was so believable, you really thought he was like that, but in real life he had a heart as big as a Lion. I had the whole Box Set on DVD. Shit cost like $130, but I got my watch on for like 2 months, everyday I would go straight to the beer store, buy me a 12 pack and watch the Sopranos until they were watching me, passed out. LMAO. Great times. The Sopranos got me through my Korea tour in the Army, on the DMZ, when nothing else would.
I actually met him while flying to the Bahamas for my honeymoon with my new wife on New Year’s eve 2009. We we’re getting our bags and there he was standing right in front of me! I screamed out,” Yo, Tony Soprano!!” He looked at me like a wiseguy and said just nodded his head with a steely cold expression. I extended my hand and he shook it, and he turned around and just walked away with his son. i’ll never forget it.
I recently watched the entire series and I hated it when it was over. 86 episodes I believe it was and I watched one every night from start to finish. It's not like me to do something like that. I absolutely fell in love with everyone but of course Tony Soprano was the most amazing of all. What a tragic loss of such a talented man.
I met him once too at a takeout place in nyc in 2008 he was kinda shy and dint say much i dont think he liked the fame i told him that i was a big fan and no matter what movie he played in or what else he had done in his life he would always be known as tony soprano he said tell me about it and smiled shook my hand thanked me and walked away a great man!!
@Quill nah. Christopher and Ralphie are both just two examples of him using the behavior bullshit to cover up how he really just didn't like those people
23.23 The woman from the Army, talking about when he signed her poster and he said to her "I'll write something for when you need it" and she says she hasn't taken it out of the box yet, because she knows someday she will need it, and then he will be there for her when she needs him to be... That's so powerful. Brought tears to my eyes 😢 Extraordinary man. Brilliant actor. He is greatly missed. 2021.
The way he addressed his son while doing his Emmy speech just made me so happy knowing that little baby grew up to play his Dad on the prequel to probably the best show in TV history. James would have been so proud to see it ❤️
Beautiful poem by Dominic Chianese (Corrado Junior Soprano): You can travel down the road, Check on every vine, You can travel down the road, You can travel down the line. But there were few like Jimmy, He was homemade wine. Honest, good, pure, nothing added. Wants you to have a good time, Sharing with friends like family. He was homemade wine. You need a dollar? You got Jim. Loyalty and truthfulness, that was him. Believing in something good out there. Never got in the way, he was always fair. A good brother, a good son, good father. He always tried his best. And all the rest, He was homemade wine.
My mom was saying how young to die like that at 51 ...6 days later my mom passed at 53 from diabetic complication...Everytime I watch sopranos I think of my mom ...
The sopranos was a phenomenon and it changed television drama shows. It was the first major show with so many characters where everyone mattered and was fully involved just like real life. For me this was the greatest show ever.
Totally agreed. And look how many great shows and characters came to be because of this show. Without this show or Tony Soprano, there’d be no Walter White.
***** Tony was what he was. He was brought up as a gangster ass mofo. Still, he didn't like to see injustices being done to innocent people. Like when Ralphy killed the horse, and that stripper. Tony had a moral code. Just like Omar, from The Wire... "Every man must have a code" Anyway, that's my opinion on Tony Soprano (a loosely fictional character). Feel free to you have your own opinion ;-)
Ronny Abraham Tony is a fictional character who is a completely and totally different person than James was. James is the only other person Tony could have been because James played Tony
i really like how gentle they are with him when he got overwhelmed. they don’t press him to push through it or complain, they just give him space, let him blow off some steam and give him the time he needs. he was very loved.
That whole section was so moving. As opinion on the conflict over there sours and we become more and more removed from the reality of it, it becomes easier to lump in the everyday people who had to do the dirty work with the ones who send the innocent to war. They are not the same, and their sacrifice was real and costly, whether or not it was in vain is irrelevant when looking at it on a personal level.
I knew there was something about this guy. Whenever I saw him when I was young I always wanted to see what everyone was talking about and what art he has created. And I just saw and finished The Sopranos. Damn, we lost a good one
Not knocking your comment. But actors and acting has to be like that. Self defence. It is like nothing else. Imagine another business where you have to kiss someone you don't really know or grab hold of them. Then be told to do it again. Never mind the long hours in their company. You have to fall in love or you'd die.
Its hard to believe we are approaching the 10 year anniversary of his passing. We miss you big fella, you left us a masterpiece that is still discussed and debated to this very day and will be for many years to come. A benchmark in the history of film and television. Miss you bro. God Bless.
We sadly recently have now lost Tony Sirico as well. There will never be as an important type of show as The Sopranos. Think about that, and let it sink in. How lucky we all are to have been able to witness the history being made for 6 seasons, every Sunday night during those seasons, we knew that we could pause what we were doing, and watch this groundbreaking historic show give us all something we had never seen before, and sadly never will again. Every couple of years, not as often as I use to, I still will watch the series, and think back to what I was doing back then, and how I would look forward to those new episodes.
Typing in all CAPS is the equivalent of shouting on the internet, now you know not to use caps lock, also spell check, because you sound like a complete idiot....
This whole tribute I was sad because he was one of my favorites, but when Uncle June (Dominic) read his poam that made this grown man cry... Rip James!
Wow was that well said by Sil or what!!! "We're just missing each other". "We just keep missing each other". "Eventually we'll catch up". What a unique way to deal with a loss.
I am so touched about how close to him were the actors of Sil and Paulie and Junior in the real life. Listening to "Silvio" near the end of this, speaking with such sadness, in denial of Gandolfini not being alive anymore is so pure and amazing... I am so glad I finally watched TheSopranos. It will be always AT LEAST top 5 Series of all time ever, probably still the no.1, the BEST Series ever made for as long as humanity will last on Earth. Ps: i wasn't speared of crying. Uncle Jun got me in the end.... What a cast Chase had for this.
*The way he speared his rigatoni, the cadence of his heavy breathing, the way he could send a chill down your spine with just his eyes.* James “Tony Soprano” Gandolfini, your legacy as an actor will live on in perpetuity.
What a touching tribute to James Gandolfini! The "Home Made Wine" poem by Dominic Chianese was especially poignant. He must have been a very special human being. I believe we all would like to be remembered as "Home Made Wine"!
Ghost The slow dolly that sweeps to the side of him at dusk? No, not Atlantic City--it's a park on the Hackensack River in Secaucus, with Giants Stadium in the background. Mill Creek Point.
It’s been 10 years since this legend passed. I’m rewatching The Sopranos again. It took me 10 years to find out how amazing this man was and how many lives he touched. I admire his acting abilities, but it’s his love, passion, and kindness that really makes an extraordinary man. ❤ EDIT: The story of the eagle has me crying
There is a video of Gandolfini petting a random persons dog meanwhile the person is totally floored by how nice a guy he truly was. Fact he was an animal lover makes his passing all the more tragic.
I don't give two fucks what people think, because i think The Sopranos is the still the best tv show ever made. Yes Breaking Bad is very good but for me The Sopranos is one league above. Very emotional watch is this...RIP James Gandolfini. taken far to soon, as all the great ones seem to be.
I am from russia, and I think the Sopranos best show ever. This show about life, family, love, hate, friendship and other things. And this understand to all people in the world. Sorry for my English.
"We're just missing each other. And eventually, we'll catch up." - Steven Van Zandt (30 minute mark of the video) Miserably beautiful, that quote. P.S. That entire thought from Steven starts about 20 seconds earlier than the timestamp I left - worth a listen for sure.
Actors dying has never impacted me, but the death of James Gandolfini hit me HARD. The world definitely lost an amazing actor and man and so many films would probably have been more amazing had he been in them!
I just started watching "The Sopranos" for the very first time this year (I know, it's quite late). Hands down, it is one of the greatest TV series I've ever seen. It easily ranks in my top three alongside "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul." James Gandolfini's performance as Tony was outstanding. His death is truly sad. RIP James
I love how the actor who plays Bobby is really that sensitive in real life R.I.P. James I'm sure your sitting by a pond somewhere up there in the clouds watching the ducks...
The way he described being in denial over his death and it’s just like you’ll catch up with them one day, way to put it perfect, I lost my grandma almost 2 years ago and she was honestly my best friend and I’m still in denial about it, it just feels like we haven’t seen eachother in a long time and we’ll catch-up one day, Rip James, he was truly one the best people to exist, not just for his acting but for his values and impact on others
Almost done with season 6, and it’s hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I never knew what people meant when they said it was the best show but I was too young to watch it, I was a young Child but now I appreciate it so much. I now know what they meant. The acting and the writing it’s just amazing. It Makes me so emotional hearing everyone talking about him. He was and still will be such an amazing force. Everyone on that show and everyone who produced it are just brilliant people. I wish to meet them just to express my gratitude.
I didn’t realise this series was as old as it is, I’m just finishing series 3 and I can’t stop watching it, I’m going to be gutted when I eventually finish it! James was an outstanding actor, so we’re many of the other cast members! Very sad that we’ll never see him in anything else!
If anyone else is wiping snot and tears away after watching this..your not the lone ranger.. I cried all the way through it.. R.I.P. to James Gandolfini ..best actor of all time hands down🙏🙌🏼👏👏🥺🥰
@@mohammadrasoulfard-habibi3066 theres alreadybtalks that if the movie is a hit there lookjngbforba netflix or a prime to buy it for a series they have loads of story's to tell as he gets older or maybe a trilogy of films that would be awesome but there is talks already
Junior is gonna SMASH NEWARK!!! His mannerisms are EXACTLY like his father...Chase & Co ALREADY KNOW what they have with him...we will get SOPRANO ORIGINS for many years to come!!! LONG LIVE THE MOST LOVABLE BAD GUY OF ALLLL TIME!!!
A new Sopranos today would be awful. Nearly everything to come from the major streaming sites (or Hollywood) is woke propaganda. The nuance in the idea of an anti-hero (who is, among other things, racist) is beyond them at this point.
It’s crazy how COVID is the reason I saw the entire Sopranos and became a die hard fan very fast. Part of me regrets not seeing it when it first came out, but then again I would’ve been way too young. A big part of me is happy I got to see it older but now I’m a grown ass man missing someone as if they just recently passed. Jimmy’s passing was too soon but it’s crazy how he continues to impact people’s lives so many years later after his death… like me. This guy literally makes me want to be a better person in all aspects of life.
agree 100 percent, i started watching sopranos into it's third season when i was 14 when my brother was watching it again for the 3rd or 4th time, james gandolfini was a true master of his art
Hit it right on the head. Started watching sopranos last year at 25. I can’t believe it took me so long to catch on. I hate that the his life came to an end so abruptly. About to rewatch it all over again
What stands out to me is not what James did for himself - but what people are remembering is what he did for others - LOVE - the essence of the man, the essence of a life well lived. RIP James - you are loved.
If your here because you just finished the show. I hope you have a great week. Happy thanksgiving! Take care and be safe during these crazy times. Wish you all the best in life.
finished the show for the 1st time in like, 2 weeks. so fckn amazing.... best show ever, alongside mad men, twin peaks, and the wire. much love to james gandolfini
Why does the lord take away so early the VERY special people this world of ours needs...? The only thing i can rationalize my mind around. Is that they are just too special being here on earth and there place is in heaven eternal. That was James Gandolfini. God bless you James and thank you.
I have been in this country for over 30 years, I have seen a lot of celebrity deaths announced on TV and on the internet and have seen how people reacted about them. I can honestly say James Gandolfini's death has most affected me, I have never felt so personal about an actor as I did with Jimmy. And also in my opinion, his death was more talked about than any other actors that have passed on in recent memory. He was a very good hearted human being. A rare and a one of a kind.
Breaking Bad is an evolved version of The Sopranos, I feel. ..and just a tad bit sharper, too. However, without Tony, there would be no Walter. I think TV fans need to experience both shows before they die.
@@TyphoidBryan Oh, stop with this bullshit. The new generation is praising this Breaking Bad like it was some national treasure. The show is good, very good, in fact, but no way the writing is "sharper" or in any way superior to The Sopranos. Not even mentioning the acting aspect and overall scenarios. The Sopranos is in its own league, it's truly superb and provided the inspirations for the latter drama TV shows and movies.
I just finished watching the sopranos for the first time yesterday. What a fantastic show. I can see how its influenced so many shows after it, Breaking Bad, Ozarks, Dexter, etc…
Sometimes the old adage “Only the Good Die Young” definitely applies to this man. We are fortunate to have the body of work he left for us. Some actors really are special people and Jimmy was one of them. RIP SIR!!!
So true. The best on Earth always wind up being lost first. So sad & a waste of a beautiful life. The ones loved the most are also the most loving in real life. I still miss seeing James in roles & with his work with military & the wounded veterans who he truly loved. He was a great human being & is still very missed.☹️😔
@@ripduck9361 I’m sry but 50-plus is not (so early in life). I luv me some Tony Soprano as much as you guys and miss James, immensely. But it does the actual young a disservice to equate them with someone in his 50’s, imo. Peace.
Very few actors have the same presence and depth that Gandolfini had. They are completely right when they say that he projected unique emotion when acting. His body language is almost contagious--when watching him act, many start to mirror him subconsciously because of how well the audience connects with him on screen. This is actually what makes James my all-time favourite actor.
You're so right. After watching the sopranos the second time I began doing the same things that he did. The heavy breathing, the hand gestures, the facial expressions. Haha. He really was something special.
maldobostero12 I just finished watching the series today. Now I always do that AYYYEEE when something surprising happens. Man I wished I watched this show when it was initially released.
Jacob G I just finished watching it too..about a month ago..what a tragedy. We finally got HBO.. We enjoyed the series in spite of the fact that we knew that he was no longer alive.
Jacob G i too just finished watching it and i already miss it, what a great show. wonderful actors all around. and what opportunity for italian americans to display their talent for drama. i too noticed when i'd get pissed of at someone i'd subconsciously conjure tony's fury. haha, what an actor.
I remember seeing James Gandolfini on Sesame Street. He talked about being scared, and how it was ok to be scared sometimes, cuz you always got someone looking out for you.
I watch the entire series of The Sopranos once a year. There isn't much else you can do that with or for that matter anything that comes near it for being so brilliant. Jim was a very talented actor and its great to be able to go back and rewatch The Sopranos and still enjoy it so much. All the cast, the script and the way it was shot was just stunningly brilliant. RIP JG
Same. Saw it offered on Amazon Prime, so binge watched as well. I used to think, it can't possibly be as good as people say...it's probably just over-hyped. Couldn't have been more wrong about that!! Next to Breaking Bad, my favorite drama series of all time.
I think "Meadow' said it best when she said that NO ONE ELSE could have played Tony. Even the finest Hollywood actors couldn't have brought the Chemistry that WAS Tony Soprano. Without James Gandolfini the great cast wouldn't have been able to pull off the whole story of "The Sopranos". No way...
