Patrick McKeown joined James Nestor on an Instagram Live on November 16 2023 to discuss Patrick's new book, Breathing For Yoga. #oxygenadvantage #breathingforyoga #q&a #instagramlive #jamesnestor #patrickmckeown
Really enjoyed this - thank you both. Definitely downloading Patrick’s app! Can’t wait to take his courses. Loved your book James, and recommend it often. This education has helped my work as a soft tissue therapist immensely, especially working with pilots.
Yoga was never intended for people who were sick, it was to support people reaching their next potential- mind blown. I've been a yoga teacher for 7 years and that is not something i've been taught. I've worked with so many "fancy" pranayamas, and what Patrick said is so important, let's get the basics right FIRST.
Haha, when two born before 1980 do a livestream you can join 5 Minutes later once they have the technical stuff settled 😂 thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge❤
So pleased to know I'm in good company...I always seem to have the same problems getting logged onto online meetings 🤔😬🤣... looking forward to this discussion having already read both their books and taking up Yoga 10 months ago as a 59 year old man....life changing techniques 👍
Thank you for your kind words @breathewelldentalservices. Efficient breathing and exercise like yoga (which is wonderful) are genuinely life-changing. I have seen the results as have so many of our clients. Well done on taking these steps to improve your own health. It will hold you in good stead.
Great conversation gents. Any chance of the two of you getting somebody like Leslie Kaminoff (Breathing Project) and/or Damo Mitchell (Lotus Nei Gong/ Qi Gong) on for a chat?
Great session to you both. I’m a proud mouth taper for 35 + years (thanks to Buteyko) but my question to Patrick is …..his thoughts on the physiological sigh? If he’s ok with the experience I expect he would suggest closing mouth for the exhalation (which is not what a sigh is about).
Watch this video from Oxygen Advantage's sister company Buteyko Clinic International where Patrick talks about sighing - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hGmkPEZCjIA.html
I am using now to breath with nose, but my workshop leader told me me to not do so, and expire with mouth because my mouth was not relaxing enough. What should i do?
Are you suggesting that restricted breathing - meaning, LESS air in and out - should be the go-to, the de-facto, normal breathing routine? If so, then why were our lungs designed to hold MORE air?
I'm surprised there is no mention of ujjayi breath. It's a specific method of breathing through the nose. Can you shed some light on ujjayi breath please?
