Could be worse. I'm a Vancouver fan. We traded Schenider. And Luongo. And Lack. And then we gave Miller 6 million dollars. All of that actually happened.
+LogeDoge No, Gubranson can play a 2nd pair role. Then think about it, Mccan is nothing, so who cares. Canucks could have traded Mccan for a bundle of hockey sticks and it would be an even trade.

Fucking dumbass it wasn't his fault they lost game 7. The whole team gave up not Reimer smart one. They left Reimer out to dry and got to cocky with the lead. It was never Reimer's fault for game 7 and if you think it's his fault your an dumbass.
+Jacob Bradshaw Oh I see what you're doing. Your team ended up coughing up a 1 goal lead in the last minute and 17 seconds in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final when you were down 1 game AT HOME right? What happened to the Leafs was bad, but what happened to the Bruins was worse.
get drafted to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in a decade, doesn't block shots, doesn't play defense, can't seem to box a player out or throw a hit in the defensive zone.. get outshot 30-40 a night but take that pathetic team to its first playoff appearance in a decade only to lose in game seven to the Bruins and have management reward your efforts by making a needless trade for another goaltender instead of addressing their weakness on defense... always positive with the media and fans, always smiling... a great character all around and when Bernier struggled this year Reimer took over again and, in the end, like the leafs have done since they drafted him, he gets shafted one last time hoping that Bernier can regain his form... question is can Bernier endure 4 or 5 seasons, game in game out, averaging 30-40 shots against a night without fatigue wearing on him as it did with James? One things for sure, as the leafs have already shown, they're willing to allow Bernier to stumble since they've invested so much in him... Reimer's story in a nutshell
For the sake of the public record, those two second-round picks became Sean Durzi, and a part of the Freddie Andersen trade (eventually became Maxime Comtois for Anaheim).
+IPLAYMC Ditto. Jumping on that bandwagon and throwing some other douche who doesn't even know the purpose of the red line off who only follows the Sharks during playoffs.
I had the opportunity to meet Reims during the lockout as he was the uncle of my goalie, and he came to watch our game (I'm from Manitoba) and the guy just wouldn't stop smiling, he was awesome and I wish him all the best as we're friends with his family, great guy and I'm not even a leafs fan.
Well yes and no, it didn't because now you have bernier in goal and that makes no sense, but the maple leafs were not making playoffs, and they needed to dump of some valuable assets, like Reimer, but they got nothing, so it looks like it made no sense
So supposedly Lou said that the thinking process of the James Reimer trade was giving Sparks, and Bibeau a opportunity. WAIT WHAT? If that were the case why couldn't they have gotten rid of Bernier? Why James Reimer? Lou, lou, lou. That statement which I saw really made me shake my head.
I'm a Canucks fan but the Leafs are still one of my favourite teams so sad. Best of luck to you in San Jose James. :( #THANKYOUREIMER it was actually good to say that
its called asset management. it was a great trade. leafs knew reimer wasnt going to resign so they traded him for the best deal they could find. compare that to nonis who let guys like kulemin and macarthur walk. it was a good trade
I am really sadden that they got rid of James Reimer, I like every player but James Reimer was by far one of my favourites. He has so much heart and soul, and I do feel like he truly loves this team. This was his first NHL team he has ever played for and he has really tried to prove himself. We have seen him at his best and yet we have seen him at his worst. He helped us get to the playoffs after a 4 year drought, and even though it was short lived, we were at least excited about something. It sucks that he didn't get as much chances to prove himself because the organization was all about Bernier and pushed Reimer aside. It was when Bernier got injured that they gave James a chance where he did an awesome job. I seriously wish him nothing but the best he is one of the players I hope gets to hold the cup if it's with the leafs or if it's with San Jose, or any team! Good luck Reimer!
As a Sabres fan, I feel your pain Steve. The Leafs have a lot of veteran forwards, and that means that they'll end up with a ton of picks for the upcoming draft, so you can look forward to that. And don't give up hope on Reimer returning. We traded Moulson and McCormick to Minnesota last year, and they both resigned with us in the off season! (Though I'd hope Reimer can do better than Moulson has upon his return.......)
+Michael Vick its called asset management. it was a great trade. leafs knew reimer wasnt going to resign so they traded him for the best deal they could find. compare that to nonis who let guys like kulemin and macarthur walk. it was a good trade
Michael Vick theres no market for goalies. no one wanted reimer, clearly. i can guarantee you that lou and co did their due diligence in shopping reimer.
+Amanda Meyers Don't be sad, Reimer wasn't even a good goalie. The only thing I'm sad about is that we got a poor return. Wish we could've gotten at least a 3rd. Oh well, at least he's gone.
+Amanda Meyers yes that what he means, Lou has stated that he has intentions to talk to Reimer during free agency for a good deal around 4.75, he wanted around 6
+Amanda Meyers even if he wanted 5 it wasn't enough time to really negotiate with other things going on but I believe he will be a leaf again, just too sudden of a move seemed like it happen for a reason
It's rough, but that's the process. We knew that we were in for some lacking trades with the Kessel move. You can't get ideal results for everyone, but better to get something (conditional fourth) than nothing. That's the difference between wining and losing down the road. Reimer is a great guy, but sadly you have to make tough choices.
I'm actually happy that reimer got traded. now when the stars play the leafs we won't outshoot the leafs 40-15 and lose. basically what I'm saying is that reimer is very good, and now i get to see steve's pain during the stars-leafs videos because bernier will be starting, and ill enjoy that
Hey Steve, heard that The Sens are trying to pack up Shayne Prince and Wiercoch for a 5th and 4th round pick respectively. This is a huge opportunity to fleece them as that is a very low price for both. Maybe Hunwick + 5th round pick for Wiercoch and Prince?
So the last piece of this trade (The draft pick that became a third round pick) still in place is Riley Stotts in Toronto. Currently in the WHL, 14 points in 20 games.
I was happy and sad when I heard the Reimer trade. Happy cause Reimer is a solid goaltender and we need a good backup to Jones if he goes down. Sad, because I liked Stalock, who is a much better than his stats say he is, he just needs to play more. I also knew that you'd take it pretty hard. That made me sad too. Ironically, Nick Spauling in 4 games w/ the Sharks has 2 goals and is a +1, Roman Polak has no goals and is a -2. Fun fact: Ben Smith's cousin is Eric Idle from Monty Python's Flying Circus. That's pretty much all I can offer on him.
somegg person I hate people who talk BS to other people like you. I hope you get a life because you obviously have the time of an 6 year old to type this. I hope whatever disease or problem you have gets cured. Have a great day.
+rollercoasterfweak yeah I like the trade but is it good for sj sharks meh I guess but... goalies arnt what they need they need defence not goalies, goalies can only do so much Carry price and the Canadians caugh caugh we already have Jones why do we need riemer idk wut they are doing it looks like they are gonna be the next maple leafs of the future pavelski=kessel couture=jvr burns=Dion riemer and Jones=riemer and vernier I'm these arnt exact matches like Dion and burns but there still interesting/scary similarities yes we have Thornton and Markus but cumon they suck now and they arnt even good 2nd liners anymore in a couple of years this team will be exactly the same as the leafs a year or two ago we even have the choking hazard as the leafs did
You should, I hope leafs can get him back. He took some unfair heat trying to carry a shit team but nevertheless an incredible goalie and guy you can actually cheer for . If your management is smart they will find out quick he is a solid number 1 goalie!!
My concern here, setting the heartbreak aside for a moment, is that, is Bernier really the guy you want to have teaching Garret Sparks how to act? His attitude blows. I can only hope we somehow bribe him into coming back in the summer.
Well you should basically think of it like Reimer for a fourth. And I know most leaf fans want more than a fourth for Reimer but you gotta remember there wasn't much of a goalie market for playoff teams, San Jose was probably the only playoff contender that needed a goalie so they obviously got a low ball offer cause of that.
Sorry Steve, in a way I'm happy Reimer got traded because we always disagreed on his value, we agree on most things no more Angel Robot hes not coming back, Spark is the future
7:29 A hab fan laughing at a Leaf fan misery. That sums up that rivalry perfectly. Although misery might something we have in common for the next few years.
Trade makes sense to me. Reimer is having a good year but has been hurt through much of it. Again. His play has fallen off lately and he's looked a lot more like the Reimer that has been here the last two seasons (not good). I get he is a fan favourite but that doesn't change history. He's struggled for two straight seasons prior to this one (which is why he lost the starting job) and seems to be falling off again this year. A conditional 4th and a backup G sounds about right in this market. And he'll probably sign back in the off-season so whatever. Let him have a playoff run.
+Larry Enochs I think Reimer is more of a rental. He's a WAY better backup than Stalock but he's fairly expensive. Sharks will probably let him go or trade him for draft picks to free up cap space.
