Jan 2024. I met James three times at the studio and on location when he was on The Blacklist. He was so nice to me and so patient when I talked to him. Memories I treasure.

I absolutely love HOW James remembers things. That's what makes him so engaging to listen to. He remembers details about his experiences that are different from other actors and he does it vividly. You can see he was getting very comfortable by the end, I wish this interview had been longer ☹️

Like someone else said a year ago on this thread, I just discovered James Spader a few months ago. I binge watched 8 seasons of The Blacklist and was totally fascinated by him. I think he is an amazing, superbly talented and unique actor. He is also, not surprisingly an unusual guy as you can see in this interview. He appears to not particularly like the interviewer who is trying VERY hard. Nonetheless it's very interesting how he doesn't bother to go along with the question at all if he doesn't feel it. It sort of reflects the way he plays Red Reddington. Nonetheless I found this interview very well worth watching.

Reddington is Spader. I believe Spader does much of the writing for Reddington and James includes his own personal quirks into the part. If you love Reddington, you love Spader.

The Practice was my childhood show -all 8 seasons. Alan Shore was unique and I liked his role.. his closing argument against the main firm when he is in court against them is one of those that I've memorized in my brain.

It’s easy to imagine that the writers of Blacklist told Spader, “Here’s the basics of your character. Each episode, we’ll just give you the broadest outline of the story and you do what you do. Let us know what scripts you want us to write for the other actors. Except Hisham- the two of you can sort it out between yourselves.” But seriously, big props to everyone involved in Blacklist. I haven’t been so engaged with the characters in a tv show since Twin Peaks.

I want t see a panel of interviewers who have interviewed Spader to see them compare notes. He's SO brilliant and such an inspiration to actors he's worked with across the board... but I'll bet so many interviewers feel awkward when he doesn't throw answers back at them and play ME ME ME like so many actors do. That part was great! He never really talks about that in other interviews but that season is such a gem. The odd circumstances for the networks that show and the spin-off made for great t.v. The characters end up breaking the 4th wall quite a bit in that show for example when they changed networks/air times, haha.

i remember start seeing the practice just when his character was introduced on the show and completly fell in love with him (and Denny Crane of course..). I was so surprise i never ever heard of him being so talented. Now i know... i was his first TV show :p Boston Legal was awesome, if you love BlackList you have to watch Boston Legal, is really really good. The current season having him as his own lawyer is taking a lot from it.

The Practice was not his first TV show. He was on a show called The Family Tree and he has done several TV pilots and made for TV movies.

I remember James Spader from one of my "old" favorite movies called Mannequin! He was the "bad guy" in my child mind, and we just loved how funny & quirky he was!
