This is a compilation of a rivalry probably not remembered by many, James Stewart vs Ryan Dungey. Dungey came blazing onto the scene in the 450 class in 2010 which provided some awesome racing between these two legends. Watch 2 races from the 2010 supercross season and a 3rd race from 2011. Look out for not only their battle but for some other riders trying to get into the fight in these races. Check out James Stewart vs Ryan Dungey - Supercross. Enjoy!

People forget how fast Dungey was on Suzuki. The year he left for KTM everyone thought that was a career ender. He did real well from the start but it took 2-3 years before they got the bike they needed to win titles. Stewart was so fun to watch. I miss all these greats.

Yeah he was good and 2011 rodger had left before the season started, He probably could have beat villo that year if he had rodger

@@wd840mxhighlights That's right, 2011 was a little bumpier than the year before for Dungey with Decoster leaving for KTM and Dungey at Suzuki for the 2011 season.

Doug Dickason people forget the 2011 outdoors was mostly dominated by Reed and Dungey, Villo was the weak link then both guys had some bad luck and Villo hooked up with Aldon.
@dougdickason

@@wd840mxhighlights yep I'm glad you reminded me of that. Reed was going to win the outdoor title until he had the get off in Millville. Dungey, before that had several bad luck issues or would have been in control of title. In Texas he was about to win the 2nd motto and overall but had that gas evaporation issue and dnf'd with about a lap to go. Southwick, his bike didn't make it to gate until the first lap was about over. In sx too, Dungey had a dnf when he threw a chain and he, RV2, and Reed all finished the season within like 10 points of each other.

Imagine Dungey growing up hearing James is the fastest man blah blah and then his first rookie 450 lead most the laps and even closed on him. Besides Ricky, no one really caught James like that by 2010.

I saw Reed run James down in Indy, after Reed fell over. So that's bull. RV and Dungey both beat James all the time. RC owned him over the couple years they raced each other..

Seems like every top rider has their prime bike. So the perfect theoretical race... 2007 Stewart on Kawasaki, 2010 Dungey on Suzuki, any Carmichael, Villopoto on Kawasaki, 2014 Tomac on Honda, 2016 Roczen on Suzuki, 2009 Chad Reed on Suzuki I might be missing some riders, I'm not old enough to remember what mcgraph's best years were and he kinda represents a different era anyways. feel free to expand or add

If you don't like Dungey that's fine. If you are going to make a statement like that, then what parameters are you using to make that analysis? Dungey has 4 supercross 450 titles to Stewart's 2 and Dungey has 3 450 motocross titles to Stewart's 1. Stewart has 98 combined national wins in sx and mx and Dungey has 80. Seems from my viewpoint, they do belong in the same breath. Both are all time great racers, and Dungey got the most out of his talent and was smart as to when he pushed his luck thereby never being hurt too often. Stewart may have been the fastest racer ever for a short period but was always pushing the limits and would either win or crash often getting hurt. 2 totally different styles, and champions, but equally great careers.

@@tpo12000like I said, James's power was also his weakness. So, if Stewart wasn't crashing his brains out, he was likely winning. Dungey has had races, especially in motocross, where he's matched or bettered James in speed. If you want, I can post a bunch of links.But Dungey rode more reserved and thereby was able to win more titles.I believe for one season, in 2007, Stewart was the fastest supecross racer ever. Dungey, may not have matched his top speed that often, but his strategy was to win titles, and he got James there. That's fine that you admire James's speed, and unfortunate that you can't see Dungeys equal accomplisment in how he was able to always be near the front without crashing his brains out all the time. I'm not about playing favorites, but about the truth.

@@dougdickason dude keep your links ive seen all of em already and i hafta say,its hard to stay awake watching your paper champ ride,its like watching grass grow.moto is about excitement,getting the pulse rate up,adrenaline flowing,you dungey fans seem to forget this..he was the most boring "reserved"rider in ama history.if you dont think ive watched your guy ride,how could i say what i have about him?also,his last season racing sx,he was whiny,complaining,thought people just just let him around them,if he didnt win,it was"just a dirtbike race",he morphed into a whiny primma donna,arrogant,stewart never disrespected the sport like that,the titles he won werent just gimme's when the better riders crashed,and injured for the season.keep your boring opinion,your boring champ.i love real mx,not some watered down generic brand of it.tomac gave him what he deserved in vegas '17,a good bullying and ass kicking.

@@tpo12000 he's not "my guy," but I do respect and did enjoy his racing career as I did Stewart's. It's just that I can appreciate chess as much as the balls out go for broke adrenaline rush of checkers. But, Dungey never got any title given to him, and if anyone whined his last SX season it was Tomac and Kawasaki. Kawasaki was joking that year about Musquin passing Dungey in several races giving Tomac more points against Dungey. Then the race where Musquin let Dungey by, they lost their minds and Tomac was saying stuff like "if you want to win the title that way." What a bunch of baby hypocrites. First, Tomac choked. He had the points lead and was leading the race and fell over and then choked around in 10th the rest of the race. Just like when he blew a chance against Roczen in the lites class when they were batting for the west coast sx title and Roczen missed the next to last race giving Tomac the chance to take over the points lead but he rode around in tenth all that race and Roczen clinched the title next race. I wouldn't mind their crying except for those facts and that if they were in KTM and Dungeys position, they would have done the same thing. The let by that Musquin did didn't matter anyway cuz Dungey didn't need those extra points to win anyway. It doesn't matter to me that you don't like Dungey, but because you hate him is no reason not to acknowledge that he was a great racer. What Tomac did to Dungey that Vegas race I have no issue with and Dungey should have expected the rough stuff(not saying it was dirty). Dungey did whine about it right after he got off the track but checked himself. Give the guy a break though. He had tons of pressure on him and battling a Guy he knew had better speed and he just gets off the track and a microphone gets shoved in his face. I let him slide on him complaining, and he later said that he understood that Tomac did what he had to. Guy Cooper never won one supercross but was my favorite all time racer and still a great racer.

@SIMIskits
@SIMIskits 2 года назад
@@rediron44 you act like they beat him straight up. Lol They only beat stew cuz he would get injured. The price he paid for being faster than anybody. Look at the stats he may have less championships but neither of them come even close to Stews Supercross win tally. Championships don’t tell the whole story Dungey had multiple seasons in and outdoors where his main competitors were out for the whole season. If Stew played it safe like Dungey did so many times and also didnt get suspended for a couple seasons, who knows but im glad that stew only ever tried to be the fastest man on the track every time he was on it, wouldnt have it any other way. Also good luck finding a perfect season on either of Dungey and Villopoto’s stat sheets.

I never fuckin liked dungey. The guy has the personality of a stump. Sure…consistency pays off but he always seemed to just prey on others mistakes and never really pushed it and wanted it bad enough. He really only won from the misfortune of better, faster riders.

Dungey was shit house. The only time he won is when the other top riders crash out or injured or retired (Villopoto or stewart) he never had a chance when they were in the mix. His in the same class as reed. Never as good as RC or RV and no one was as fast as stewart, watch the 07 season and watch RVs final years. He was a spud.
