@@mikimiyazaki it is indeed true. ALI was notorious for hating and being lazy in training. He used to take a whooping in sparring for 8 rounds before he started jabbing away.
Guus1987 he’s not just talking about athleticism, he’s also talking about his fighting iq and fighting ability and his ability to adapt and overcome situations NATURALLY
@@communicate17 No idea. it's so obscure I think Mr Rainy Day might have remixed it himself. I know the lyrics are from Teflon - The Rawness. Then I found 'The Realness by Stubbla' which has the same beat but i gave up searching ahahah
People forget what happened prior to his fight with Jones. Mofo was in a hospital from a disastrous weight cut after ballooning to 200 that he shouldn’t have ever done; fight shoulda been at cruiserweight. Prime Toney is top 10 ever.
@@JaydenLynch-ds6eo I don't know about 'naturally'. He was 5"9 and change but he just liked to eat. 168 seemed like his most natural and comfortable weight class. There will never be another guy win a belt at heavyweight under 6"1, let alone at 5"9 like Toney.
My respect for you went through the roof for the sheer fact that you know the correct name of the stance and complete system of fighting known as the Philly shell. Small correction, the Philly shell is the stance and the name of the advanced system of fighting and the shoulder roll is the specific technique of causing straight right hands to bounce/deflect off of the shoulder. The reason people get it confused (aside from having never been trained by a legit trainer) is that the shoulder roll is one of the most utilized and clearly visual defensive (when properly timed and chained together it's right hand bouncing off shoulder, then counter right hand pre loaded, therefore powerful and landing on an off balance opponent) technique that gives the mirage that there are openings that aren't there to draw an opponent into a spider web. Toney vs Jirov was the first fight my trainer had me watch when he'd have me train light then watch fight videos on Sunday. Toney lived and breathed the Philly shell lol. He probably slept in the Philly shell stance lol. Floyd Mayweather also mastered the Philly shell system, but he didn't use it every fight like Toney. Most people don't that it's an entire precise system of movements (ask bone head Adrian Broner lol), nor do they truly pay close attention to detail which is why they think Bernard Hopkins used the Philly Shell (he used his own stance that was kind of similar). All the Mayweather's, Toney and De La Hoya are the only fighters I can think of in recent history that fought out of Philly Shell. It's becoming a lost art, and is an advanced system due to the timing needed and experience to be able stay calm as it feels at first like you're almost playing chicken with your chin, until you realize that youre hands and arms are already in position for defense, all that's needed is upper body movement which is way faster than it takes for an opponent is punch to travel to you.
@@mikimiyazaki absolutely. I couldn't have said it any better man. My old trainer Kenny Weldon had me watch James Toney, or George Benton when I wasn't in the gym with him learning the Philly Shell/shoulder roll techniques. Toney was an absolute master
Fantastic compilation! Tony was the epitome of what it meant to be a defensive boxer. Coupled with a supreme I.q, it made him terribly hard to beat and only the best of the best stood a chance to.
One of my fav boxers of all time. Doesnt get mentioned enough. In my top 5 maybe 3 for his slips and counters. Unreal! Never been knocked out. Never got his ass beat for real. He's a beast. I wished he had stayed at middleweight. Great vids music 🔥🔥 keep it up💪 subbed
Nigel Benn is personally my favourite fighter of all time but I think Toney was too stylish for him, but no one in American wanted the smoke from mclellan and Benn took it! Both legends and defo should have happened
@@jacksonrandyrhoads6089 TF it was. He was robbed and ducked 🦆 left and right. What are you talking about? He started at 154lbs and he was putting superheavyweights on their asses. The steroid allegations against him we're even proven fraudulent and officially redacted but they never reinstated his title.
Joseph Jo Jo there's facts to that , he had weight on him when he sat Evander Hollyfield down and I believe Toney was out his prime at the time still pretty fast.
