Singer-songwriter with both the much-loved 'Starsailor' and as a solo artist, James Walsh follows that band's most recent (2017) release 'All this life' with his third solo album 'Tiger on the bridge (released via Solo Records on 31May19).
Recorded at the legendary RAK studios in London in front of a select audience of fans, the album yet again reveals Walsh's emotionally raw, yet uplifting songwriting style, further elevated by his extraordinarily expressive and dynamic voice.
Lead songs 'Germaine' and 'Heavy Heart' are adorned with Walsh's melancholy charm, enhanced by subtle and swaying arrangements that bring soul to the heart of the songs, that deal with regret, loss, hope and escape. The title track has a stirring keyboard backing and redemptive narrative that combine to mesmeric effect.
Andy Rawll (for Record Collector Magazine) spoke to James at the Groucho Club in Central London before a special Unplugged Show (on 20/5/19) in support of the Youth Music charity. He talked about how turbulence in his own life has influenced many of the songs, as well as his strong Celtic roots.
James is currently (May-June 2019) touring, playing the majority of the new album, tracks from his prior solo outings (2012's Lullaby and 2014's Turning Point) as well as a few shining Starsailor classics. His next London show is at Bush Hall on 30/5/19.
Most notably, a percentage of the tour proceeds will be contributed to wellness charity CALM.
