"Chris Reifert and John Tardy you need to read books on tape, especially for kids" I nearly spit my beer on my computer screen when you said that John. Hilarious
Great stuff Jammin Jon! Between your list and Nick's, I now have some more listening ideas, and I very much appreciate that. While conventional, my favorite metal album of the year is Dying Fetus Make Them Beg For Death. I love brutal stuff and that one is brutal from start to finish. It just beats you up relentlessly and leaves a person with a smile IMO. I just don't listen to as much as you folks at Thralls of Metal, but I love the passion you put into your reviews and rankings and these year end lists! Rock on brother, and here is to more great metal in 2024 \m/ \m/
Thanks, man! I'm glad you could pull some good listening material from our choices! Dying Fetus was on my list, just had some things beat it out, and that's saying a lot. Thank you for your support. It's like I tell everyone- We're fans first and reviewers second. We adore metal and are just as excited about it as everyone else, you know? It's that fandom that keeps us moving. 🤘
The latest Autopsy record is flawless, I love punky death metal. Chris nailed the vocals again and the doomy sections tasty asf. "Toxic Death Fuk" might be the greatest song title ever.
Thank god bro, you're still alive 😂 that brings me comfort - just listened to the latest portal album and it sketched me out then I checked your review of it from 2021 and yeah I'm relieved to see you posting 😂
@@jamminjon8074 I felt so strange listening to that album, was like I was caught in a whirlwind and could feel all the hatred, misery and regret of every human that ever existed and it was seeping into my soul and devouring my Psyche, Like I physically felt heavy and wanted to turn it off. It caught me off guard as I was bored from going through all their other albums which I didn't really care for. I WAS NOT READY 😭 Glad I experienced it though. I think.

Very solid picks, Jon! Nearly the same as my list. Horrendous was the best for me as well. I had Nothingness in 2nd spot. I really enjoyed the Tribunal debut and put that in 3rd spot. Godthrymm in 4th, Tithe in 5th.
Any chance of covering the new EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT that comes out this Friday? One last sick & brutal review for the year! The new FUNERAL VOMIT is pretty top notch too!
Dang JonI love that this ‘Supraliminal’ by Nothingness is ranking high at the end of the year… to me it sounds righteous, fat chuggy, and mighty. This is my death metal album of the year! I can’t wait to hear more from them in the future! Cheers dude!
really good list. One reason I have been posting my list is because I have found that no matter how many ass-kicking albums I find, I leave a shitton off.
Thank you! Yeah. This year was really brutal (as far as list-making was concerned). It's impossible to both listen to and cover EVERYTHING. I think the beauty of that is, you'll never stop hearing and finding new things. I've seen a lot of lists and have found out that I too, missed a TON.
That Sermon record is something special, it made my top 10 also. Godthrym was great aswell, certainly one of the best Doom releases of the year. The Horrendous album is good, but i wish i liked it more. It starts and ends very strongly, but a couple of tracks in the middle dont grab me. Thats just me tho. A great list anyway dude!

If you made it this far, thanks for reading my list, and hopefully you found some albums you maybe didn't listen to yet. Personally I was surprised how many awesome black metal albums I found this year, and it feels like I still barely scratched the surface. My Top 10 was mostly locked in before this month, but I had some last minute additions that really grabbed me. Overall, what an awesome year for metal!
That's a GREAT list! There's many an album on there that I could've put on mine. Still gotta check out Xoth. I've heard many a great thing about that album.
@@jamminjon8074 thanks a bunch, man! I worked on this list for WAY too long (like you guys I'm sure) and had to make some hard decisions. The new Autopsy, for example, is still growing on me, but it's obviously very good. You guys introduced me to stuff like Godthrymm and I'm glad you did because it's AWESOME. I HIGHLY recommend you check that Xoth album. The musicianship on display is crazy, and every song is a banger. Those guys just signed with a tour manager recently, so I'm expecting an announcement after the new year!
That Cruciamentum album absolutely CRUSHES! 🤘🤘 ..and yes, like Jon rightly said, it actually surpasses their phenomenal previous 'Charnel Passages' album, it's that good.. 🤗 What a comeback! 👌👌

@@jamminjon8074 Thank you. I'm from South Africa and it is very expensive to import hardcopy Metal releases so I mostly get digital releases. Must be amazing for you guys to watch all of these amazing bands live and then buy the merch directly from the artists.
Great Fucking List 🤘 You also picked my #1 album of the year! Horrendous - Ontological Mysterium is absolutely amazing. I also had Enslaved in my top ten. I need to check out some of these albums that I missed. Creeping Death for sure. I told Nick and I also want to tell you about Pronostic - Chaotic Upheaval. Amazing album with a perfect mix. The bass alone is worth a listen. First 5 seconds and you're hooked ! Cheers 🤘😎🍻
Thank you! Yeah. Horrendous was pretty much a no-brainer from the first thirty seconds of the record. Definitely check out Creeping Death. That record is a beast! I'll give Pronostic a whirl!
@@jamminjon8074 Awesome. I'm actually going to crack a cold beer and check out Creeping Death right now. I think you'll enjoy Pronostic. It's in my top 3 of the year 🤘
No dying fetus that album is absolutely crushing for you to not have the new fetus on your list is crazy one of the best death metal albums of the year.
It is. I left it off, because I didn't get around to hearing it until long after it was released. I felt the fact that I'd only heard it once, meant I shouldn't put it on the list, just to put it on the list. I love Dying Fetus regardless, but I wanted to be fair and honest with this ranking.
No one here. I'd imagine there's some metal-elitists out there that have some backlash. That's for them. I ADORE "Alive Or Just Breathing" and "The End Of Heartache".
