A signature Akkerman line at 1:04 one he uses in every style he plays. One of the most accomplished, versatile and recognizable guitarists around, always willing to take risks.
i love the line but i feel that later in his carreer he started using the same lines too much.. Listen to his 70s stuff and he is so much more versitile.
Jan is just as melodic as he is a shredder, with all melodic chordal tones and arpeggios swinging and swaying, he maintains a constant melodic theme about his amazing speed and technique. Every aspect of a perfect guitar player/performer checks off.
Best guitarplayer there ever was, at every level, every type of music, a master of his instrument, and always willing to play with other, not well-known players, just because for the love of music. Give love to your guitar and your guitar returns the favour!!
Of course he is - Thats what he has spent his whole life doing. The fact that Jan can come in and hang with a genius like Stochelo and not seem out of place is a testament to the mans amazing versatility
Always loved Focus since they broke in the UK with 'Moving Waves'. Akkerman always had that very distinctive sound from his Gibson. His acoustic work was excellent too.
Hi, I agree with you on the fact that Biréli Lagrène is one of the most complete. Despite everything, I still think that Jan Akkerman is even more complete. He has a feeling, a musicality that I don't find in others, particularly in rhythm guitar in all its forms. For example. Its funky side on certain pieces of this genre. Above all, the difference in my opinion lies in the classical side, much deeper in him than in many guitarists, except obviously classical specialists.
Jan's solos were adventurous within a limited electric blues-jazz vocabulary in which he chose to remain for this outing. While Stochelo's were wider-ranging with flamboyant broken-chord architectures swooping upwards and topped with ornate flourishes or turnarounds at the apexes, in that exhilarating Django/Gitane style.
wow Ian Akkerman from Focus long time no see thanks u tube this is one reason this web sight is so awesome (seeing your long lost mentors) nice playing very different than his early years love the gypsy jazz style
Perfect music! The solo is not dominating the harmony. But still, the solo is the heart, and the result of many, many years of study. A perfect song! With perfect balance between harmony and crazy solos. Wish I could play like this. :)
no idea...rosenberg seems a common name in gypsies' families..there's a famous german schlager-singer, marianne rosenberg, whose father otto was the president of german sinti and roma... i always thougt of it more as a jewish name...but then again, one of hitler's worst "sidekicks" wore that name too.. (have always found that weird..)
@MartijnHover ....Just wrote it down a little stupid, OFCOURSE the Rosenberg Trio is well known, did not mean them when I talked about unknown players, was speaking in general...........:-)))
Een echte all-round man.
