I helped Jan across the race track after his show. He autographed a free cd for me and I gave him a pen to sign autographs. Linda. Was always one of my favorite songs as were a couple of others.
After Jan Berry's horrific car-crash, in 1966, where he suffered brain damage, & paralysis, he was told he would never talk, and/or sing again. This crash, & injury, ended J&D's quest for their stardom to continue. Through unbelievable fortitude, and determination, Jan was able to perform again, with life-long Friend Dean Torrence, before Jan's death, in 2004. Jan Berry had an I.Q. of 185 (Genius level), and after his automobile crash in his Corvette, on Whittier Blvd. (Not far from "DEADMAN'S CURVE"), Jan suffered tremendous physical, & mental pain. Seen here on tour (and all subsequent tours), Jan, & Dean, & their back-up band - performed every summer across the U.S.A. Each & E-V-E-R-Y night, Jan had a small tape recorder, & he had to rehearse the words to the songs he would be singing the next-day... A great man, indeed! (more than I can say), for you loser's that gave this a thumb's-down! Thanks Jan & Dean! (Y) :)
Jan and Dean should be in the rock and roll Hall of fame if just for Jan Berry's influence on highschool friends Brian Wilson of the beach boys and herb Alpert of the tiajuana brass....
I saw Jan around 1968, he was walking up the back steps of KFWB to hang with his friend Roger Christian who was just starting his show. I'd just hung out a bit inside with B. Mitchel Reed. I passed Jan on the steps. He was already doing well enough to climb the steps and buzz the intercom and announce himself, though he had a long way to go. He's 100% better in this video.
Seeing Jan makes me sad because of how he is after his accident. However I give him credit for continuing to do what he loves. I have a lot of respect for him. His perseverance and talent shines through.
Jan did a great job considering what he all went through, He was a good singer, and so is Dean. I can still remember back in '61 with Popsicle came out. We were gong down 13th Street in the summer time and the sun was out and it was a really sunny day. I miss hearing your songs - aside from youtube.
My Mom always played the song for me. I didn't like my name, until she told me she spelled it Lynda. Then I seen that "Wonder Woman", who's name is the same as mine "Lynda", so I felt better about it.
The late, great Buddy Clark did it first, in 1946 (and his video for it is over the top brilliant). Jan And Dean covered it for Liberty about 16 years later and took it to the next level. God bless Jan Berry for persevering. Blitz Magazine's decisive pick for Best Duo of the 20th Century.
another great early 80's clip of this duo somewhere between here and and the early 90's dean just completely quick signing his trademark falsetto which is amazing
On this day in 1963 {March 29th} Jan and Dean performed a covered version of "Linda"** on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #47 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, five weeks later it would peak at #28 {for 1 week} and it spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100... Between 1959 and 1966 the California duo had twenty-four records on the Top 100 chart; five* made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Surf City", for 2 weeks on July 7th, 1963... 'Dean' Ormsby Torrence celebrated his 78th birthday earlier this month on March 10th {2018} and William 'Jan' Berry passed away at the age of 62 on March 26th, 2004... May he R.I.P. * They just missed having a sixth Top 10 record when "Honolulu Lulu" peaked at #11 in 1963... ** "Linda" was written by Jack Lawrence, and published in 1946, see below site: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_(1946_song)
It is hard to believe this song was written about a one year old baby, Linda Eastman, the future wife of Paul McCartney. This song actually charted in 1963 higher than the current Beatles single of the day "From Me To You" in the US.
Good song. Saw the record take Linda surfin. Yes all the Linda's I know in Williamsport. The one is from Jersey shore. Deane Torrence did this with David Marks and surf city crew. This song I sing in front my buddy Roger and we laugh because he thinks I'm referring to Linda kinkead. My lady supervisor from Lowe's is Linda. If I played this shell thinks its good. I do not know if she heard this or not.
Can this and other videos of this be put together as the whole concert? I have asked this before, and never got an answer. A few months ago, back in the summer (don't remember just when) I was happy to find the videos to this concert, tho it said like half were unavailable in this country, for whatever reason)but you could still get the separate songs just audio, on a channel named Liberation Hall(red white and blue logo). I went to look at this channel a few days ago, BUT, there were no videos on it. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED the videos were gone, and I unsubscribed.
I am the drummer in this clip's daughter, and I first saw the entire show on PBS. I had a copy, but no longer have it. I've been wanting to get a hold of another one, maybe I can contact the network and see.
I wish I could see this whole whole concert. The video clips were on a different site sometim last year, but then disappeared. The audio only of the concert are on Jan & Dean -- topic. I would really love and appreciate it if all the live video clips were put together as one concert. *I've made many requests about this, and others, but it seems i'm being totally ignored , no responses.*
Yes, there is 1 other- "Jan and Dean 07 Hide Your Love Away My Father's Place 81" I was lucky enough to be at that show It was fantabulous!! They did 2 shows that night both were filmed A dvd came out in the late 80's. It was called Jan and Dean... One Last Ride" If you can find it somewhere it's worth whatever the cost. It's only about an hour, though. Good luck! You won't be dissapointed!
@@sharonramone7186 Thank you for that. I haven't watched many videos or read many comments lately. I don't do much looking for CD's in the stores.i found this and the rest of the concert on RU-vid site Liberation Hall, They are all separate but not put together as one full program. But I can't bring up most of the videos because it says video not available in this country(?) They also have all the audio of songs. I was glad to find them on the site, but disappointed they're not together as one program. I look in Walmart mostly, but never see any Jan and Dean( big surptise---not!) I'll probably have to find CDs on line or try order them somewhere.I used to have a J &D "cheapie" tape $3, and a copy of the anthology album but over the years and moving , can't find them. I would love to go out and buy one of their CDs.if I knew where.
@@sharonramone7186 Hi Sharon ☺ I saw videos to this concert on a channel Liberation Hall (red white and blue logo) but when i recently went back to it, the videos were gone. I get so mad sometimes when i find a video(s) i want to see, then they're GONE. 😠 I'll live, but I'm disappointed.

I saw them in concert after his accident. It was painful to watch. It was like this video. He couldn't sing. He could barely speak. He couldn't remember the lyrics. Dean and the band covered for him.
Conjuring two house since part of the Janet she's was looking for something like musical show documentary about biography history books documentary netflix picture awards TCM hollywood netflix show about
Songwriter Jack Lawrence used his attorney, Lee Eastman's one year old daughter Linda's name. She grew up to marry Paul McCartney. This is a great clip of the touring of Jan & Dean after Jan's accident. If you're a J&D fan, read "When We Get To Surf City" by Bob Greene.
I new it had something to do with a reference to lynda cheers Richardoville for the info wish I had seen them live love the beach Boys and Jan and Dean
