Thanks for uploading! Never heard Navarro's part of this interview before... He's just so self reflective and genuine here, very cool indeed!

Perry describes Lollapalooza at the end...this is pre-the first go around with that.

Perry's even more of an egomaniac than i realized. It's clear that everything is about him and he sees the other guys as props in the Perry Farrell Show to use only when necessary. Its part of what makes him who he is and its why he's such an incredible artist, but certainly a tense and volatile situation.

I acknowledge the impact and size of Jane’s addiction but I could never get into them due to that extremely abrasive voice of his. It’s like nails on a chalk board to me

I always wondered how bands with Heroin addicts would do a tour. That is crazy, you are in Arizona but fly to NY at 5am to score only to be back by time to go on stage. But when you are in it, with your friend too, it all makes sense too! On the other hand, when you are a big band and got money and you don't have to cross borders (all the time), why not buy 100gr or so each and hit the road? And also, i know it is horrible, but you can't tell me, these guys weren't creative on it, i think they were only really mind blowing back then, all or nothing! Read all the comments, i was at a concert in May 1991 and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Now? Healthy and happy, but they would never ever create such an intense heat like they did back then.

thx for the comment. not sure about how creative you can be on heroin, though. usually users seem to be in a dreamlike state: eyes closed, not moving, etc. i don't think they're writing killer riffs or jotting down brilliant lyrics at that time. and playing live like that would be pretty sloppy. i'd guess they'd mix it with coke before a show to stay focused and energetic.
@lowandodor1150
@lowandodor1150 7 месяцев назад
@@raveballs Well, being on Heroin isn't being in a dream like state, eyes closed, nodding away. Not at all! I mean, there are more than enough examples of creative people high on Heroin to prove my point. Not here to prove anything to you though, just an honest statement of mine. It doesn't last though, that is the tragic part, because at first, just like Perry says in his movie "Gift", you can write an entire album in one evening. I found that to be true. It takes years or at least many months to get really ill and dependant until you can't function without it any more. Then it is a matter of what you got going on in the first place i guess. And sure, if you got the money, like these guys, you would mix in the coke to get the energy going, countless interviews with Perry about that too, and i mean coke, hello, although if you got good Heroin, and that doesn't have to be insanely strong to knock you out, but to get you that incredibly warm feeling, Opium is even better i'd say, you are energized just as well, depends on the kind of music you make i suppose. Thanks for writing back!

It was much, much easier to carry what you needed back then. It was the last days of an analogue world. As much as I dislike aging, I wouldn’t trade my spot as a GenX’r for all the elasticity I can afford. Hate this era. I mean I LOATHE this era. Sometimes I feel like I’m just waiting to die.

@@raveballs Ever heard of Miles Davis? Coltrane? Charlie Parker? With that, I’ll just tell you that you’re mistaken. You are mistaken. And that’s okay. Hell, I’m wrong a lot. As a recovering addict, this is just one thing I happen to know a lot about.

Funny to hear Perry talking about crooks with the ticket prices for Janes shows these days. Is anything genuine enough in this world to stand the test of time?
@jamiehovis7722
@jamiehovis7722 2 месяца назад
How else are musicians supposed to make money? Bank robberies? Selling drugs? You no longer pay for music . You steal it or stream. Where is their income? Live shows is the only way any musician can make a profit, they can’t survive selling mere $50 or even $100 tickets. They have families to support.
