Hell yeah! I literally just woke up and got this notification lol It's a great morning already, I can tell! Lol This is the performance that made her. She went into this festival relatively unknown, and left everyone with their jaws dropped, and a record deal lol This was the first time the world heard Janis's greatness . The crowd was shocked. No one had sang like Janis before this. They focus on her feet because of how she's feeling the music. Her live performances are ALWAYS worth watching. That woman was so electric on stage. Thank you for the morning Janis. Made my day lol
@@kshavon3098 Thank you for the reaction BF!! Whenever you can fit it into your schedule, please react to "Tell Mama" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pvTLwnlXXhY.html Or "Get It While You Can" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_5VsZE8E7s8.html Lol, either one is a great choice. Her on-stage performances are next level. SO full of charisma, passion and pure raw energy.
@@kshavon3098 It is worth making a reaction about this video. The final has a surprise. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0LjM6g4XYi4.html
What the man is showing with her feet is that when Janis Joplin get so emotionally singing she starts to move and stomp to the point where she will lose her shoes or balance in the movement but maintain her delivery of the song with even more emotion because she feels it with her soul. Only great artists can give such a raw performance like this.
The lady in the audience that was looking "like WOW" was Mama Cass Elliott singer with the 60's group The Mamas & the Papas. Unfortunately she's no longer here to sing any more, but truly Janis made an impression on her. Maybe the cameraman had a foot or shoe fetis(HaHa).
That day at The Monterey Pop Festival everbody lost their minds. It made major news casts & took Janis into the Stratosphere. Janis felt everywhere so deeply from the bottom of her feet all the way up. Patti La Belle feels the same way & lost some expensive shoes that she threw to her audience.
Just like a ball in chain 💥❤️🔥🙏 u was an icon when it came to her clothes. There just showing her talent top to bottom. I’m crying 😢 now ❤& she died alone even more of heartbreak 💔 for me. Way far ahead of her time ❤❤❤
No one knows how a white girl from a small town in Texas got this much soul. That's Cass Elliott in the audience, a great singer in her own right, check out her stuff too.
She was heavily bullied and eventually run out of her town. She still had it better than a black person would've had in her situation but I can understand her having a lot of feelings she needed to express, and she was able to translate them into song.
OMFG...The feet, the legs, the shoes, the electric movement of that body stoked with with explosive energy just blows me away....I love those shots 1000 percent...FABULOUS...she is so electric she's about to pop out those shoes. LOVE IT!!
She moved like women had NOT before; wore pants on stage, or cared about doing ANYTHING proper women performers were 'supposed' to do! That's part of why the focus of her stomping feet and shaking around etc. She took the female performance and shattered the mold; like Elvis did in the 50's, Madonna in the 80s, etc. Janis was the first at many things, though taken too young after just 3 years in the Limelight. She became a member of Rocks infamous 27 Club, dying in 1970 at just 27 yrs old, from a heroin overdose.
I love watching young people react to this performance from 1967 and get as worked up and blown away as you just did. Janis Joplin was such an unstoppable powerhouse whose performances and style are timeless and reach something in us that goes beyond race, age, and musical tastes. Wonderful, isn’t it?
Oh Janis, no one like her before or since. Totally unique. I recommend you react to her performance of Little Girl Blue on the Tom Jones show, gives me goosebumps every time I watch it!
The film had to be pieced together because on their first performance at that festival (daytime) their manager wouldn't allow them to be filmed, which was REALLY stupid. They fired him and filmed the second show, but had to piece together with filler to flesh out the complete audio. That's why you see the shoes so long, there just wasn't enough video, and why the camera holds on Cass Elliott for so long, which is actually spliced in from a different show (notice when the camera's on Cass it's full daylight, but when it's on the stage it's dusk). It's a very faithful edit to represent the reality but that's why the video is a bit scattered.
Song was written by Big Mama Thornton. Watch her sing 'Hound Dog', later popularized by Elvis Presley: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wxoGvBQtjpM.html
You realize just how RARE women rockers were at this time? There were basically just a hand full. Others were Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane, the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy, of Heart. Mama Cass of the Mamas and the Papas.
Hey BF, Back and forth with ER, came to ck on my grl...OMG one of my Ultimate Favorite Classic Rock Queens...She will get straight to the soul...She is singing from toe to head, shootin' her soul out to urs. Camera shows u, how her spirit is almost a flight, thats how much of her soul she put into every song...Put all your soul into it, sing the way you feel. Music is the language of the spirit...Thanx so much doll, Much love, and support
Beautiful reaction. Janis & Jimmy Hendrix dated & died a month apart at the ages of 27. They were so great sometimes I considered everyone else to be in the minor leagues
I envy you! Lol I would give anything to have watched her perform life. If only time travel existed. Concerts and music today are NOTHING compared to back then. Too much fake crap in music today and concerts are too polished and manufactured. Back then, it was pure rawness, talent and spirit.
This was a fun video. This was the sexist sixties. The cameraman probably did not appreciate how beautiful a woman can be without eyeliner. (The press did not treat Janis kindly.) Cameramen always focused on something else; hair, breasts, whatever. I agree with the comments below, Mama Cass Elliot, one of the best vocalists of her time, was blown away by the performance - and did not mind showing the camera her thoughts. Wow.
JJ was incredible on stage. The best show I saw was with Johnny Winter & Vanilla Fudge was the backup band. She sang her tune, "Down on Main "Me"". When she sang the line Down on Me. She took off running then dropped her knees and slid right into Johnny's crotch munching. Then sang I am down on you, Johnny. Great "Fing" show. I worked at Rock Festivals from the West Coast to the East Coast. West Palm Beach Rock Festival where she performed the tune I posted. Rolling Stones closed the Festival. 3 days of awesome music and LSD were passed out all 3 days.
I know I'm a year late to this reaction, but I like watching your videos. The lady that was staring with her mouth open was Cass something from the Mamas and the Papas
I again implore you to check out Janis Joplin and Tom Jones. Raise Your Hand. I have no doubt at all that you will be fascinated by several aspects of that video.
Those shoes was for stomping the s*** out of that song…legs go crazy when she’s getting ready tread down upon top of that song. Loved the shoes! Loved watching those shoes step all over that song! 😀❤️
A lot of singers i worked with and for in that era used their feet to cue the band. If you watch closely you will see her feet signalling the band. I think that's the reason the camera was on her feet....to show she was a real pro.
Sis, you want to see one of her better performances? This is a really good performance, it's the one that catapulted her... But she had better! Try "Work Me Lord" Stockholm 1969 (not her Woodstock performance, she had blown her voice out by the time she got to Work Me Lord.)
I used to see her at the Avalon and the Filmore all the time and this was the best I've seen her. I've seen one other video and it wasn't as good. I think her performances weren't consistent if you are right. All the crowd kept on chanting for "Ball and Chain' which was her finale, so you could be right. I had friends meet her, trying to sell or give her pot. She was very nice. I also saw her twice buying something on Haight Street for $20.00 and it was white powder in a baggie. None of my buddies would believe me. That $29.00 would be $200.00 today. Not all these performers were nice, Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane wasn't very sociable. Neither was Marty Balin.
@@deannacrownover3 In Grace's defense, from an interview I heard years later, she said that she was really shy. I'm going from what someone said who tried to approach her. The same way with Marty Balin. Fans forget celebrates are people too, I had a cousin who was an assistant road manager for Carlos Santana, his biggest job was to make sure the band members wouldn't get so friendly with the fans, that they wouldn't make it to the next gig.
I LOVE the focus on her feet! It shows her power goes from her head to her toes. And you talk through most of her singing. Sheesh. That woman with her jaw dropped was Mama Cass from the Mamas and the Papas.
It's interesting you bring up the focus on her feet. She was passed over in the industry bc she wasn't attractive ( in the industries eyes) She talked a lot about how it made her feel to basically be told she wasn't pretty enough to make any real money singing. She had low self esteem about her looks as a result, The camera man might have went to her feet to detract from close ups of her. The media didn't like her facial expressions. It was a very judgmental time I history.
